Why Do Some Move Forward & Some Stay Stuck?

The Betrayed, The Addicted, and the Expert is a podcast production of Beyond Enough. This all started out as an opportunity to open up the discussion of how to move forward after infidelity, or an affair. We discuss the heavy stuff and share Coby and Ashlynn's real-life experience of recovery after sex addiction and betrayal trauma. All this is done alongside an expert in sex addiction Brannon Patrick.
Whether you are struggling with the super heavy stuff of broken trust in your relationship, or if you just want to improve your communication and create better connection, this podcast will give you so much of what you are looking for.

I'm the stuck one. 5 years later. Still hurting, still angry. Working on myself now. We are currently separated because I felt like it was unfair to both of us. i'''m told I need "to let it go". How???? The humiliation he caused me.

Watching this today I can see the foreshadowing of Coby’s imminent decision to ‘uncouple’ - His language on growth and marriage, his body language, his reactions and responses. My heart aches for Ashlan and the devastation she is facing. After all she sacrificed and endured to stand by her husband, marriage, and family, Life can be so unfair. I pray she continues to find healing and peace.

In my opinion - the problem is the “addiction” and “betrayal” model itself. It’s simply less effective than a differentiation approach. The porn is the smoke but no one is addressing the fire. It’s the cough and not the cold. It allows the husband to call himself “addicted” and not take responsibility for his choices and the wife to play the victim and not step up and develop her sexuality and withhold sex and affection and choosing her husband and then wonder why neither one is happy. Why else did BYU abandon the ARP program and replace it with ACT therapy? The fear-based and shame-based approach is damaging. You all bring on Jennifer Finlayson-Fife and you fawn over her and love her message but her approach is that addiction and betrayal isn’t an effective modality. And now - look what happened to this couple and podcast… There are so few couples that use this model and end up with a passionate and intimate marriage. Success rates are abysmal…
