I study Russian because after these politicians are dead, please God, there will be peace between the US and Russia. I plan to take full advantage of that peace and reconnect with some of my heritage. Russia has contributed so much to to culture, mathematics, music, literature, theater, film. We have so much more to gain from friendship.

There are no hostilities between two nations.Why on earth americans have to be aggressive towards russians when they treat ukranians as russians themselves?Russians don't hate ukranians they treat them as indoctrinated by the western propaganda.

I started studying Russian in January last year. I chose Russian for several reasons. I wanted to study a foreign language that would be an interesting challenge and something very different from the Western European languages English speakers normally learn. I also spent a lot of time playing video games online with a lot of Russians,so I thought it could help. Other reasons include, an interest in Russian culture and wanting to visit Russia at some point in the future. I also wanted to learn Russian because of the political tensions between Russia and the West. How can we expect to have a good relationship with people we don’t understand? And how can we understand people if we don’t understand their language? It’s very arrogant to assume people in foreign countries know or should know English. Making the effort to bridge the gap in communication can help improve things between the general Russian population and English speakers. Almost everyone I’ve told that I’m studying Russian has responded very positively and with a lot of curiosity. I have been studying Russian with a tutor for 3 hours a week, as well as studying by myself. Soon I plan to take the B1 exam. I plan to study Russian for another year or 2 and then start learning Chinese(Mandarin) for similar reasons. My ultimate goal is to learn all 6 official languages of the UN.

⁠@@speakrussian6779sounds like Russian seemed both challenging and approachable for him, based on his first paragraph. I started Chinese a year after Russian but gave up pretty quickly. There’s so much more content (and accessible social media) in Russian that you can immerse in once you reach an okay level of Russian. With Chinese, the equivalent level is much, much higher and so is the level of frustration you experience to reach it. Arabic is probably even worse, plus there’s the dialect situation

I know Russian, Chinese, English and Spanish. As I work all over the world I need to know major language groups as it allows me to have a common language in many areas. For example here in Myanmar I can use English and Chinese. When I am in Georgia I can use Russian and English. Same for Lativia. And yes I use a language such as Russian as it helps me a lot when I am trying to read and guess some Balkans languages.

Вау! Это 90% всех стран :)) Да! Согласна абсолютно, что знание русского очень помогает в Балканах. Когда я была в Сербии и Болгарии, то иногда мы говорили с людьми так: я на русском, а они на сербском/болгарском :)) и понимали друг друга (почти всегда хаха)

If someone decides whether to learn Russian by looking at the current political situation, I would expect them to learn Russian anyway 😄 because it means that they are interested in what is going on there and knowing the Russian language can help them a lot. As an IR student, recent developments have been encouraging me to learn Russian even more. So, condemning people who are "still" learning Russian is just nonsense. I am sure so many people appreciate your work.

Yes it's interesting as an American seeing Americans condemning Russian people. I often ask them would you be ok with other countries hating the American people for our governments invasion of Iraq?

Prejudice against a language, any language, is patently absurd. Should we ban a Russian tree from being considered for the title of "world's most beautiful tree"? Should we ban Russian breeds of cats from cat shows? I'm using very specific examples for a reason, but to stop learning about a language or culture because some of your peers decide that they don't like that language, or think it should be banned, is both ridiculous and sad. There exist those people who have jumped on the anti-Russia bandwagon, without really even knowing anything about Russia, simply because it's popular right now. Sadly, this includes many of my own family. Would these same people also happily denigrate people of a different skin color if it was popular and encouraged by their peers? I wonder. Because it's the same behavior. Prejudice of any form is such an ugly thing, and it does not become beautiful simply because many people do it. If people have an interest in a place, a culture, a language, they should learn about it - and their desire to learn should never be belittled.

Be proud of your language and culture, everyone fights from time to time, there isnt just a good or bad country, try to do your best in life for you, for your family and for your country :)

В русском отделе в книжном магазине, я была одна. Потом, русский мужчина вошёл в магазине. Он тоже искал русские книги. Он был очень взволнован. Он сказал мне, что он очень тронут, что кто-то ещё интересуется его културой. Наконец, он предложил мне роман Лермонтова "герой нашего времени". Я тоже очень тронута встречить его.

I started learning Russian well before the war. Why would I throw all that hard work away? I still watch channel TV rain (and that was a very interesting time to watch throughout these events). I had great motivation from that alone. And that's when I improved the most/fastest in the least amount of time. Besides, I would like to make videos in future aimed at people still living in Russia. With the title something like "What Evil Westerner thinks about Russian government" and so on.

Good morning! Ok so as a polyglot and as an American I am in love with the Russian langauge and culture and I study everyday for the past 4 years. I am also Slavic as my family came here in 1896 from Slovakia and Hungary so this interest me as well. I am also fascinated with history, politics, and psychology as many Americans have little to no understanding of either unfortunately and are easily manipulated by our media and our politicians. So these are my reasons for why I love the Russian lanaguge in addition to having many Russian and Ukrainian friends. Your channel is amazing by the way. Keep it up and hello from Texas!

Because Russia is a country that have an enormous geography, big commercial potential, economically authoritative in the world and so on. These reasons are quite enough to learn Russian😊

Для носителей например, испанского уже давно почти невозможно найти качественные бесплатные фильмы или сериалы в интернете. Всё платное. Когда я рассказываю испанцам, что смотрю что угодно бесплатно, они просто кипят от зависти.

I think learning Turkish gives more opportunities to the people who want to explore the Kazakh, Azeri, Uzbek languages etc but in that area Russian is like a Franco lingua and helps you to survive and let you to live a good life.

Greetings from Ecuador, South America! мы здесь говорим по-испански But we breath western "culture" all the time. My wife and I studied in the US. We have travelled in Europe. Our children are fluent in English and German. We thought this was just the natural order of things. Whatever happened in the Middle East or Asia was always related to some "crazy dictator", or "retarded communists", or "muslim terrorists". The world was simple: we (the West) are the good guys; others are stupid or evil. Until the pandemic made us realize that we, as a society, are fooled and controlled by some powers we don't recognize nor understand. Which became more evident with the war in Ukraine, and more recently with the massacre in Gaza. The war in Ukraine motivated me to venture outside the western information bubble we live in. And I found a huge, interesting world out there. During these years I have been learning about history, philosophy, economics, geopolitics, military science from a non-western perspective. And, six months ago, I began learning the Russian language, not "despite" the current situation, but because of it.

I keep up with it because of what we call the "sunk cost fallacy" 🤣 I spent too much time and effort on this to let it atrophy. I have no interest in traveling to russia now, especially after they've randomly thrown visitors from my country in jail ("Russian security services have arrested U.S. citizens on spurious charges, singled out U.S. citizens in Russia for detention and harassment, denied them fair and transparent treatment, and convicted them in secret trials or without presenting credible evidence"), then there's the fact the embassy basically doesn't even work anymore, if you need help you're screwed (thanks to russian limitations on what they can do)... but there's still plenty of people to talk to and many great countries that speak russian that I'd like to visit, like kazakhstan. Also there's many amazing russian youtube channels I can now watch and enjoy. Come visit us in north america sometime

sunk cost fallacy - that just made my day! that's hilarious! this is such a беспредел (i don't even know an analogy for this word in english). One of my friends (also a Russian learner) visited Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan this year and was amazed by how cool it was! We have a proverb - нет худа без добра (every cloud has a silver lining), so that's a good part. Oh! I wish! ahahaha I even applied for the us visa, but got rejected :( their loss

Yaroslava, I am married with children 24 years to a Russian, rather more accurately said, a person from CCCP. I can tell you I married a tremendous civilization.... Russia's star, Russia in the eyes of the global south, who are far and away the majority of the world is steeply on the rise. This is the country, first as the Soviet Union and now today as the Russian Federation that stood up to the West and survived---- on a personal note, it was never a question not to learn Russian as I now have family and friends there. I also have friends from all over the former Soviet Union, living in the West who i can understand. Also a polyglot to top it off.

После того, как я начал изучать японский (в 90-х), экономика страны попала в застой и до сих пор не полностью восстанавилась. И русский я начал изучать в 2021-м году. Мне просто не везёт с языками 😅 Но конечно я надеюсь, что нынешняя геополитечиская ситуация не протянет так долго, как экономическая ситуация в Японии. Я также надеюсь, что в следующем месяце (уже? Боже!) когда я в Средней Азии, у меня будет ощущение, что изучения русского стоило, чтобы отркыть себе какой-то новый мир 💪🏻

Students going to study in Russia arr most people who learn russian language whether it's scholarship or paying because education of Russia is all in Russian language

If having war criminal bastards in government was enough of a reason to stop learning a language I should have quit English a long time ago. As a matter of fact, following that logic, I shouldn't even have started😂 It's absurd to consider a people and their government one and the same. The Language is the people, not the oligarchs in power.

not learning russian because russia is a warmongering country is fucking stupid, by that logic we should all stop learning all colonial languages - english, french, spanish, german etc - all these countries are committing countless atrocities around the world everyday. i started learning russian five years ago and now i help translate german-russian for ukranian refugees here in germany, i also have tandems with ukranians, georgians and russians. language learning facilitates communication and peace.

Because the language doesn't only belong to the regime. It's also the first language of millions of democratic Ukrainians, Belarusians and Russians who I am happy to be able to communicate with. One tiny request though, please change to the white blue white flag of peace and not the current one. Too many crimes have been committed by those who carry it, against Ukrainians and against their own people. 💪🤍💙🤍 Свобода России!

I agree! I've been thinking about it (using wbw flag), and the only one thing I am worried about - I think not many people form other countries even know what it is. and it can be confusing for people, who want to find videos in russian to learn. But I will think about it! Спасибо 🤍💙🤍

Я понимаю, у меня только есть одно сомнение - если использовать бело-сине-белый, то иностранцам может быть вообще непонятно, что это за флаг. А я снимаю видео для них. И по моему опыту обложки с флагом больше объясняют, о чём это видео. Но я понимаю полностью :(

Отличное видео! Я изучал русский язык во время Советского союза в американском университете. Меня ещё интересует СССР. Я тоже шахматист...и как известно, жили в Советском союзе самые хорошие шахматисты в мире. Я читаю книги по шахматам по русскому языку - и советские и современные. Я тоже играю плохо эндшпиль)), как ты в новом видео сказала!
