Sorry to hear about your illness. I've been a health inspector for almost 30 years, and have investigated many many cases and outbreaks of food poisoning. Sorry to be graphic, but if it's vomiting and nausea you experienced, then yes it could have been something you had at supper, and I'd say the rice was the cause (either Bacillus cereus bacteria or Staphylococcus aureus, perhaps Clostridium perfringens). But if it was diarrhea, then it's more likely something you ate 24-72 hours prior to the onset of symptoms, and thus probably something like E.coli or Salmonella. Most people blame the last meal they ate, but chances are good it was something before that. Without a few lab tests it's tough to pinpoint the exact cause. Either way, speedy recovery!

was gonna say the same thing. had norwalk virus which was tested out by the health dept...you know how, lol...and low and behold, 12 other people who ate at the panera we ate at that same day? yep. positive as well. they isolated it to salad and not washing hands well, more than likely, by the young staff. put me off panera for years and years.
Hope you guys are feeling better ❤ me and bun are going to be doing the Camino Portuguese Coastal in June X
Awesome to see you got back to the Camino! You seem in a good place. Im proud of you guys!
I remember when I did the Camino Frances in 2016, near the end when I was really struggling and thinking to myself "Why am I putting myself through this? This isn't what a vacation should be!!", I swore to myself I would never go through this again! But lo and behold, not a month after the end of my first Camino, I started missing the experience and the seed was planted in my mind about doing it all over again... It took 6 years, but it finally happened in 2022. The experience was very different from the first Camino, but I don't regret a single moment of it. If you're on the fence about it, all I can say is that the experience changed my life. Buen Camino!

love this sentiment so much! it's so hard to put into words, but the Camino just has a way of bringing us back :) Buen camino!
The music choice for the food poisoning segment was so good. I was clenching my stomach the whole time and Pete audibly gasped when Josh took the first bite of the chicken. Hope it wasn't too awful and that you recovered quickly!

🤣 it was such a surreal experience to edit the video after experiencing it (I'm sure you guys can relate!) thank goodness we only lost a day and ya know, had to just avoid real food for a while..but wow, we hadn't experienced anything like that in a while!
Great music choice for the supermarket shopping.
I would definitely do the Camino Portuguese after doing the Camino Frances last year. I love how all you have to do is walk, eat & sleep.

yes! there's something about its simplicity and beauty!
Doing what you guys are doing but in reverse - did Portugal central route last year and now the Camino Frances in April this year. Similar experience with the Portuguese route - the traffic initially was a bit too much, but after a few days it eases off and you get to go through some really interesting towns. Was definitely a grower - though I didn't have to deal with food poisoning, so that helped. Hope you're both feeling better!!

so awesome to hear! thanks so much for the message--buen camino!
We ask ourselves why we keep going back and you guys share our sentiments as to the why. It's an interesting way to travel for sure! Portugal has been our favorite country. ❤ We have a small rooster on our Christmas tree to remember our travels there. And then there's food poisoning. 😞 Buen Camino - Michelle & Brian

Agreed--it's such a simple and sustainable way to travel, but also experience such an incredible journey and adventure :) Love that you have a small rooster to remind you of Portugal :)
Oh no! Get well soon.
Love your honesty.
I did the CF in 10/21 and the CP in 9/22. You two are fun to watch!! I’m hoping to walk the Kumano Kodo soon and get a dual pilgrim certificate. You should also look into it. Bom Caminho!

amazing! yes!! the Kumano Kodo is a trail we've always wanted to walk, it looks so incredibly serene and beautiful. thanks for watching :) bom caminho!
The "was it worth it" food entry cracked us up. 😂 (no, it wasn't!) food poisoning is the worst!! We *swear* we ate at that same table in the Barcelos restaurant - how fun! That deal was an incredible value. Love it!

Food poisoning is always awful and worse when you are on the road. Been there, done that. Yuck! So sorry.
I thought it was from the bread. Get well soon!

Hi Lisa & Josh! My son and I are arriving in Porto 3/31/23 to start our Camino. Question: hydration pack or water bottles?? I noticed Lisa had one in her packing pic but never saw either of you using one. Thanks for your advice.
@LisaAndJosh
Жыл бұрын
hi Cindy!! so excited for your Camino :) We used water bottles for this camino as well as the camino Frances (we each carried large bottles, one in each pack.) we picked them up in Porto at the Decathlon, but admittedly, didn't refill our bottles as much / drink as much water as we should've since it was colder outside in February and we didn't find as many water stops along the way. But it was always nice to have them filled up before we left each morning!
You are staying at pretty high end nightly acommodations. Have you had experienced bedbugs anywhere?
I cant wait to walk the camino again. Hope you recovered enough to walk that day. Your bags look on the small size what weight are you carrying or are you using a bag transfer service?
@LisaAndJosh
Жыл бұрын
for this camino, we only brought the packs we were carrying for the trail (Lisa's was a 30L bag, Josh's was 18L). we'll post a video on everything we packed soon :)
Hi you mention in your previous vlog about the airalo app for wireless internet.Did you get the 2 weeks or longer? Thank you Will do the Camino this Sept 9, 2023 🙏🇨🇦

hi there! we used Airalo (airalo.tp.st/7UpY712Y) for our esim provider to get data--we usually purchase the plan with the amount of data we think we'll need (typically 3GB will get us through a few weeks). hope that helps and buen camino!

Ahhh sorry you guys got sick during the Camino. I got sick after the camino but during my travel day back to the US 😅 I love the Portuguese route because it’s doable in a shorter amount of time and omg the views of the coast ❤ I’m thinking about doing the Norte soon hehe but maybe for like 5 days and revisititing/continuing on and off throughout the years lol Buen Camino!

Oh no! spending a travel day sick sounds so miserable 😫 hope it wasn't too terrible! the coast has been so so incredible! we also already talking about other routes to walk, including the Norte! we heard the views are stunning there too
Sorry to hear you have had food poisoning - that is rough. Why walk the camino? I don't know either after walking the whole Frances 3 times! It feels very real - it's not like other travel and I like touching base with some of the values held on the camino. But I know I will walk again to make sense of it - oh and every camino even on the same route has been radically different. How does that happen? Enjoying your videos immensely
@LisaAndJosh

yes, this!! 3 times, wow :) we agree--it's unlike any other form of travel--and maybe that's what makes it so special--it's rooted in so much more.
I've walked the Camino seven times, so yeah I get it. 😉

Nooooo, sorry guys. Never fun to be sick when you're away from home. Fingers crossed it's short lived. The clarity of purpose/clear mission statement you have while on the Camino is something that I deeply miss, and certainly don't have in my real life.

we completely understand this feeling! makes us wonder if this is why so many like us return to the camino
That's why you guys should only eat pastries and drink wine lol...

It’s ironic that in the previous episode you were calculating calories on losing weight… nothing like a little food poisoning to shed some quick pounds. Sorry it happened that way but maybe you can start a new trend… “The E.coli Diet” 😅
Hahahah aghhhhh
