Why Do People HATE This Knife?

Ойын-сауық

Full Disclosure, I responded to the negative comments on the TRM Neutron video because I think everyone should be recognized for their engagement in the channel, not just those who agree with my opinion. Even if we disagree we can still come together over everyone's favorite hobby and celebrate our differences together. Cheers Everybody!

    Let me start by saying I have had a Neutron for over two years. I paid about $200 with flat micarta scales and then got some contoured G10 scales for $60. So technically it is a $200-$250 knife and you are paying $200 more for titanium scales. Which is fine if you want to, some KZreadrs just paid almost $500 for some Para3 scales. Truthfully, I would if I could those TRM scales are very nice. Something comparable that's under $200 would be the Doug Ritter RSK, except it being a crossbar lock. Pocket clips never sway me on if I'm buying a knife, plus those mushrooms help secure the clip to the pocket so it doesn't fall out. Most comments are just balderdash, so enjoy your knife.

    by all accounts the TRM Atom/Neutron is a great practical knife. I have owned and sold a couple, but we don't have to all own all the models. I personally like Miguron Mayoral to carry because its a very well made knife and if I lose it no big deal. Probably less likely to carry and use it when the knife in my pocket is $450.

    TRM makes a great knife. It's even better with a proper regrind, while the stock is thin if you inspect the plunge there's barely any material removed. If the behind the edge thickness was a reflection of the blade stock it would be one of the greatest cutters made. That said it's still really good.

    One of the comments was indeed balderdash.😂 Seriously though I don’t get the disagreement with price. It’s priced competitively for the market and sold out the same day, to me that says they could have charged a bit more. I would have normally preferred a different steel but it sounds like they were very considerate of the choices they made, you said about the special edge geometry they chose so I’m assuming they also chose 20CV intentionally. For the rest of the knife I prefer function over form so I love the liner lock and pocket clip, I’m not a fan of the common issues with frame locks. That doesn’t mean they didn’t consider aesthetics, I think this is one of the most beautiful but functional looking knives I’ve ever seen. The handle milling and contouring is awesome and that thumb stud is like the chefs kiss, just perfection. I wouldn’t pull out $500 for a pocket knife easily and 20CV hasn’t necessarily been one of my favorite steels but yeah I get it, I would actually buy this knife just how it is.

  • @Rollshambo

    @Rollshambo

    26 күн бұрын

    The irony is that most steels are going to perform well with the geometry of this blade, the exception being extremely brittle steels because they'd have a difficult time maintaining edge integrity at the low angle(maxamet/rex121) but 20cv/magnacut (the two options you can get these in) are going to perform extremely well with this knife

  • @lumntoob999

    @lumntoob999

    26 күн бұрын

    @@Rollshambo thanks I appreciate the info. 20CV and magnacut are pretty close in edge retention anyway but I think 20CV is a bit more stainless and magnacut is a bit tougher, at least from my understanding. From what I’ve seen a lot of premium steels are close enough in edge retention you won’t notice a huge difference in use, as long as the heat treat is good. I’m not fully sold on super hard steels like maxamet either, for me I really like S90V, it’s doesn’t have to be heat treated super hard and still has one of the best edge retentions and I’m also really liking cruwear too but that’s still fairly limited in use. Like I said though, I wouldn’t rule out a great knife because it’s premium steel isn’t one of my top 2 or 3, it’s still going to be excellent.

    People will understand once they get a Neutron or Atom in their hands and use them, even the non titanium scaled ones. Any titanium version TRM drops get sold out quick. The price is completely fair in my opinion, and in certain designs or smaller knives, I much prefer a liner lock. They are super easy to work on and in the worst case scenario of a lock failure, it's much easier for both the customer and manufacturer to swap a liner than swapping a whole Titanium lock side piece (and will more than likely take a lot longer to receive a replacement).

    Holy Balderdash , I think that is an awesome knife that is American made so of course it is going to have a higher price but well worth it also great manufacturing quality and materials and as far as the liner lock compared to a frame lock I and many others would much rather have a liner lock for a variety of reasons such as you are not going to wear out the lock sooner by putting extra pressure on the lockbar by squeezing every time you use it and don't have to worry about death lock from having fingers on the lockbar while trying to open it and mainly because it looks so much better.

    I have one. It's a good knife I jst wish they would do solid ti scale and nested liner lock instead of the way they are doing it. I don't like that it's like stamped steel liner.. it's usa made and $350 is about right.

    I handled one. It's one of the best feeling knives I've ever gotten my hands. I have my ABW Model One Bladerunner HQ liner lock in my pocket that cost less than the TRM, but isn't made as well. I have one word for the negative Nellies-scroom. Forget about them.

    I do think 450 is a bit much although it is a beautiful knife made in small batches. They could actually go to 550 and it would still sell out. It’s worth what people are willing to pay.

    I think the Neutron 2 is a fantastic knife, and it is on my short list of knives to get. That being said, I generally don't have a problem with others who don't like it, or with divergent opinions in general, as long as they aren't douche bags about it. Frankly, with the buildup to this video, I was expecting much worse, like, "I hate this knife, and you're scum for liking it. I curse you and your whole family!" To d-bags like this, I would give them a hearty Summer's Eve salute.🙂 BTW I do disagree with you about something you said about frame locks. I used to believe that they had greater load-bearing capabilities than liner locks as well, but after seeing extensive heavy-duty testing of all the major classes of locks, with multiple samples of various models from a number of manufacturers in each class, it showed that as a general rule, frame locks were actually weaker than liners. They tended to deform more under less weight, and had more catastrophic failures. That being said, I look forward to your next video mocking me, hopefully with the same aplomb and hilarity as you did with Mr. Wiens (your reading of his comments was my fav.😁👍)

    I commend you on your remarks regarding communist China and Chinese manufacturing. You could have said SO much more about Chinese knives compared to USA made knives, such as slave labor, underage labor, sub par quality, very poor heat treat, and low Rockwell hardness on steel, to mention a few, but you behaved. You’re a better man than me.
