I did my DNA test last month. My DNA result, I am 90% East Asian, 9 % Central Asia & 1% Melanesia. Melanesia was a surprised. Here in the States, unless I tell them I am from India, they think I am Chinese or Korean. I do speak some mandarin (Chinese) as it’s close to my language. I am originally from Nagaland, from Chang Tribe.

I am from Assam. And we North-Easterns are very well aware of our proximity to South-East Asia. Our behaviour and lifestyle is closer to South East Asian than either North or South Indians. However because of the political union we are a part of, we are quite influenced by the Indo-Aryan culture, specially Assam and Tripura. Our common love for Bollywood, Cricket and Hindi songs has triggered this influence. However, the Christian majority states of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland lead largely western lives. It is noteworthy that Mizoram and Tripura are among the three most literate states in India. However, NE lacks far behind the rest of the nation economically. Manipur and Nagaland have been effected by imsurgency for around 50 years now. NE is arguably the least developed region in India. However, some scholars and intellectuals believe that if India resorts to robust and active trade and commerce with South East Asian nations, such as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, etc, Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, has greater potential to prosper than Mumbai.

Iam from the state of Kerala in the Southern part of India, but I have a bloodline that originates from the Northeast India especially from Assam and Meghalaya as my mother is an Assamese who was born to an Assamese father and Meghalaya mother. Thus Iam related both to Assam and Meghalaya. But my father is from Kerala and so it also makes me a Malayali. But deep in my heart Iam a proud Indian.

I am from Manipur. The capital city Imphal which is 2000 years old capital of our Kingdom ( earlier known as Kangleipak, Meckley etc before 18th century since 33AD). We have a history of 3500 years of kingdom from 1500BC. We became part of India from 1949 under a controversial merger agreement just after year two years of getting independence from British supremacy of 57 years (1891-1947). We are one of the first southeast Asian independent nations who have a democratic government with its own constitution after our King agreed to give up monarchy rule even before Indian Union was form. Unfortunately it last for a year as we became part of India. Some indigenous population aren't migrated unlike most population of NE India. We have many ancient caves of human early settlement which is dated back 30,000 BC. The Khangkhui cave is the most famous one. We have our own script (Meetei-Mayek or Kanglei-Mayek), religion (The Sanamahi) and language which many migratory population don't have. We have our own written history recorded system from early 1st century known as Puya. There are dozens of Puya which are meant for different purposes. Unfortunately it was mostly burned in early 18th century by a impure blood king Pamheiba (Garib Niwaz). Now there are many corrupted version of Puya which are written in Bengali script since that dark reign. Still many Puya pages are discovered from remote part of our state. We only consider its true if that particular Puya is before 18th century. Meetei community are the only people in the world who were forced to convert into Hindu in 18th century during his reign (1709-1749). Our number system represents the phase of egg cells transformation during pregnancy. The 1-9 symbol is taken from the shape of egg cells transformation during pregnancy. Our alphabets verbally represents the part of human body. Start from Head Hair Forehead Eye........ Kok Sam Lai Mit Paa Naa Chin Til........ We have our own games and sports which our forefathers have introduced. Like for example the beautiful game of Polo (Sangol Kangjei) which is a game of pride ,honor and royalty.. We have our own martial arts which is known as Thang Taa. India is famous for its diversity as its a big nation with long history so as our small state Manipur. Manipur is known as Jewel of India, Switzerland of India and currently the power house of sports and games.

Firstly, I am myself north east indian.. I have average knowledge of history of India. I myself have the small eyes like Buddhist features but still, I am Hindu.. not everyone in north east India eat non-veg. There are still Many who eat only veggies just like my family.. it depends on one person to another whether he like to eat veg or non-veg. Even in my family, my father eats fish and meat, my mother only fish, myself only chicken and eggs... 😂😂.. though we still love veg foods and let me tell you this. We eat more veggies than non-veggies in my house. YES, I won't deny the fact that Indian govt lack their attentions in north east regions but they are still trying their best to help us. But sadly, politicians eat up those money and facilities cannot still reach us which helps the hatred in people's heart for govt. But I still support India becoz I think India is much more better than China when it comes to independence for public to live like they love. Many interesting things are banned in China but not in India. Just becoz our features resemble them doesn't mean we really belong to anyone. We belong to ourselves... it's about humanity not about country. But I won't deny the fact that I hate seeing Bangladeshi illegal immigrants populating North eastern states and showing egos like north east belong to them. Indian govt should do something in this matter. Plzz look the condition of your own country first before going out to help or judge others. Sorry if any of my words offended you.. its just my point of view.

The vegetarians don’t mind cooking meat for the non veg. As you can assume we are flexible and that makes us different. We are not very strict like you guys. We line our looks. It’s exotic.

You are hugely misusing the word "Gurkha". Gurkha is derived from the word "Gorkha" (Spelled as Go-r-Khaa) a current district of Nepal, which was once one of the many smaller kingdoms before the unification of Nepal. The king from Gorkha conquered the smaller kingdom into the unified Nepal, making its Capital as Kathmandu. Gurkha as is commonly known today can represent one of two thing, which are both westernization of the Nepali word Gorkha. First, it means the Gurkha Regiment in India and UK who are selected from the people of Nepalese origin, usually of Gurung, Rai, Tamangs ethenicity. Second, the term also means to represent the people of Nepalese origins living in the parts of india where the recent demand of separate state is being demanded. Term "Gurkha" is never used to represent the general people of Nepal having indo-aryan traits, or any group of people inside Nepal. Please don't misuse the word "Gurkha" to represent the entire population of Nepal that are ethically different from the Mongolian descendants in Nepal. This could propagate false information.

For those people saying why Northeastern Indians look Mongoloid because they migrated to India from Tibet and Myanmar! Well, they never migrated to India! They had been living in that part of Asia since thousands of years and mind you it was never a part of India or any Indian Empire! SO CALLED NORTHEASTERN INDIA WAS NEVER A PART OF INDIA. IT OFFICIALLY BECAME A PART OF INDIA ONLY AFTER 1951 AND MANY OTHER INDIGENOUS ETHNIC COMMUNITIES PROTESTED JOINING INDIA! The region now called NORTHEAST INDIA had been a cluster of independent territories ruled by the more than 250 indigenous ethnic nations. Most of its area became part of British Empire only in Mid 19th Century. Prior to that some major areas were under the occupation of Bhutanese, Burmese, Nepalese and Tibetan Governments!!!!! That part of land was never India so it's baseless to say that these people migrated to India. In fact Indians have started migrating to so called Northeast India and have turned the indigenous people into ethnic minorities. There were communities who were at the stage of nation-state formation of their own but India rejected and started sending their troops to take over that land. This gave birth to armed resistance against Indian forces who had invaded their ancestral lands. This is how insurgency was born in what is now Northeast India!

Then we will be free from this tyrannical indian culture. This is going on in meghalaya, we are rejecting everything that is indian, encuraged research n preserve our own language, culture, dances, dresses, food, etc. Unlike when you become a hindu, you have to change food habits, dress, culture, everything. Im not trying to insult hinduism, i respect them in their own rights and place. But that is an instrument used by the hindutvawadi to rule over us.

Aronaisa Sagar..... those who are supporting you..... are dumb..... they don't know the history..... like you.... Let me tell you.... in 1823 .... IT was the Burmese empire who spreaded war to the NE region at that time whole state was known as assam only . During the rule of ahoms... when they (ahoms and the people of entire NE region ) almost started losing everything against Burmese empire, they seek help from east india company not from tibet and Bhutan or china.... at that time there was undivided great bengal or bengal province . They (britishers) can left NE region to die.... from Burmese.... instead they came to support for our personal interest.... of course it is for their personal purpose.... not for NE people..... so that is how British and the Burmese war started and the Burmese loose the war. On 24 Feb 1826 the yandoo treaty was signed which had brought NE state under British rule. The British ruled the NE region in the same way as they ruled the other states of india . As India got independence the NE region got free from British colonial but as a part of india....that is why NE region is an integral part of india but it was politically included in india by the britishers.... if it wasn't included in india.... still you would be tortured from Burmese empire.... still would fight for freedom against Burmese...

I should say present day India is a young nation. it's a nation of nations. and our country should have been named "United states of India". India is really very complicated country. lots of diversities in culture, language, religion, appearance. # the thing is, we neither like to be part of China (which mainland Indians think of) nor do we want to be Indian. just because we look Chinese doesn't mean we like to be part of China. and regarding appearance, some looks like Chinese(east asians) and some looks like south east asians.

There are 3 districts in Barak valley. 2 districts were parts of greater Sylhet which was a part of Assam untill partition. After partition most parts of Sylhet went to Pakistan (now in Bangladesh). The 3rd district was a part of Kachari kingdom (Sino-tibetan) but now majority of the population is Sylheti.

hey! loved your post. I am from Nagaland and the Nagas are said to be migrated from China. well there are debates going for this but since I am a Naga, I believe we have migrated from China, through the way Thailand and Burma.. Nagaland is a Christian state and our official language and medium of education is English. we are non - vegetarian unlike the rest of Indian states haha.. actually the other Indian states accused us for eating variety of meat and also cause we look like Chinese..... neither they give us freedom nor they want to develop Northeastern states of India that you have mentioned now.. thanks for your post. :)

In India there are still some people who are racist and speak so bad that they even forget that today's North-east India has beauty, brains, talent, diverse cultures, diverse foods, and much more than what one can think!!😌 North-east India has natural gas, petroleum, coal, Uranium, all varities of silks etc which are already proofs that North-east is definitely not that poor what many Indians think of !! Just because North-east India is geographically far from central India and backward in technologies it doesn't means North-East India can't develop... Even there are NITs, IIT and Medical Colleges in North-east India which are already in top 100 and top 10 and top 30 in rankings !! ( We are not Gaon wala) !! So ultimately, the main fact is, never ever be a racist, Instead try to love North-east people with all heart and instead of saying "Chinese" thinking us as your Bhai or behen would be better !!

Some inaccuracies about Nepal: No, we're not all Gorkhalis. Nepal's population is very diverse. Gorkha is a district in Northern Nepal. The people can be classified according to three regions of Nepal. The northern mountainous: Mostly comprising of Tibeto-Burman people, Central Hilly - Composed of Tibeto-Burman and Indo-Aryan. The Southern part is mostly composed of the Tibeto-Burman Tharu people and Terai people that look like people from Bihar and UP. The Indo Aryans of central Nepal look a lot different than from those of the South. They have nothing in common except for religion..the difference is day and night. It ain't because of admixture, the Central hilly people are mostly Brahmins and Chetris who for the most part of history never married out of their own caste although they must have some admixture in the past. The admixture that you talk about which is visibly clear is seen in the Newari people of Kathmandu. They are indigenous to the central part of Nepal and are genetically a mixture of Tibeto Burman and Indo Aryan, thus, their culture is very rich and they have very distinct features.

Arunachal Pradesh is a disputed border region with China but under the control of India. The Indians were slow to develop infrastructure in the region believing that wild country would be sufficient protection against a Chinese invasion but have now reversed that wisdom in the light of China rapidly developing Tibet with roads, rail, power lines, dams, mines and more. The rail line to from Lhasa to Nyinchi (very close to the Arunachal Pradesh border) will be completed in 2021 and will join anther from Chengdu and Kunming by 2030 has really motivated the Indians to play catch up.

They migrated to Assam with a very long jouney from their homeland in Yunnan and settled with Tibeto-Burmans and Indo-Aryans in the region thousands years ago. Unfortuntely, Tai Ahom language became extinct and was replaced by Assamese sometime during the Ahom kingdom

I'm from Assam. My language is the Bodo language( one of the 22 official languages of India). Bodo language is the only Sino-Tibetan language in the entire Northeast to have the largest speakers. It has also influenced the neighbouring Indo-Aryan languages like Bengali and Assamese. Today the Bodos are ethnic minorities in their own ancestral land due to illegal immigration from Bangladesh and internal migration from other parts(Hindi belt) of India The indigenous people of Northeast India are the only natives of that land. They had been living there even before the Indo-Aryans had existed in North India.
