Moogerfooger Phaser is pure bliss. I have almost all the classics and the Fooger is the most creative of them all. Fantastic drum sounds you can make with it, and it does not complain about high voltage input. Ringmodulator is also in my live setup, doing proper big modulation, as expected from a German electronic musician. Lovely chill video, bud!

Really dig the chill format. Guitar pedals are my first true love, and I still find more pleasure in sound design with them than almost anything else. Makes me want to hustle through some more videos in the guide to guitar pedals. Great stuff!

I love this, and those Moog pedals to me really complete your vibe. I kinda feel like effects define someone's sound in a strong way. I remember years ago a young producer told me he could always tell a mix I did immediately by how I processed vocals.. I also think everyone needs / deserves an eccentric effect that pushes them out of their comfort zone. The Atriedes, Microcosm, Miku, any of those wackier pedals are so fun to use in a traditional musical context. Great video, great conversation starter.

Moogooerfooger Ring Mod as a tremolo pedal is my go to as well! The ring modulation is good but dropping it down to be a tremolo, then using the LFO to mess with the tremolo rates it's fantastic.

The pedals are great but the real star of the show is that Reface, man (and your playing of course)...such sweet sounds!

I’m slowly building my collection. My pedals are Moog MF-102, 104m, Line 6 M5, and some Behringer reverb, multi fx, and filter pedals. I want to get more bit crushers, chorus, fuzz, overdrives, flange/phase, etc. It’s more to see what I can sculpt out of synths and drum machines. I prefer to buy cheap effects, which is why I’m after more Behringer pedals. But later I can decide if I need to spend more on other brands. I’d rather see what pedals sound good with what device. If it doesn’t sound good with anything, then I could always think of selling it later. I’m sure there are rackmount effects units out there that aren’t one trick pony’s, but I sort of like knowing whatever pedal I have does it’s job for what it’s meant for. Nothing wrong with a whole sweet shop at a dial’s twist, and midi sync’d to tempo, but sometimes the fun is the journey and exploration of what it will do to your sound.

Heck yeah. I appreciate you sharing your philosophy on music creation. Your gear should be fun and inspiring, and not everybody is going to get that from the same equipment. For example, I've had an Teenage Engineering OP-1 for a couple years now, and it's nowhere as inspiring and fun as my Synthstrom Deluge. To be fair, I don't use the OP-1 much, but partly because I haven't found that moment of "connection" with it, so other shiny things get my attention instead. Thanks for sharing this video!

Never heard of the Atreides Weirding Module but I love Dune and analog pedals!

I have multiple pedal boards (more than is healthy). Setting them up is a pain in the ass. Changing things out without a solid use case distracts from music making, or so I’ve found. Thanks for sharing your rig details. I like it!

Got that Reface CP too cause I'm a lifelong fan of the famous fender Rhodes of the late 70s.Also running effects pedal thu effects send via analog mix and yeah anything with a TS cable gets modulation big time.Nice friggin set up!!⚡🤖⚡

I never realised I needed a sub-octave pedal. Sounds like some of the sounds from the 90s that I had always wondered about.

Get a multiple octave pedal eg two down, one up. You can get a great variety of sounds!

Forcing yourself to try new things is good too. I've been an analogue snob since first plugging into a EHX Big Muff Pi. A recent bout with Bronchitis; where I didn't feel well enough to crawl into the studio, make all the necessary connections to make music, but WANTED to make music. I forced myself to sit down with my iPad and try it's synths. I got to make music and was happy with it... Still love analogue.

Man, the supa-puss is too good sounding, its built like a tank as well. The fact that it gets up to 3000ms of delay time is wild. Its easily tied with the mxr carbon copy for my favorite bbd delay.

Very nice. I just recently started to experiment with specific pedals, and would have to agree with you here; it is the journey that is important, not the gear. That said, we are always looking for a little bit of "magic" to make it extra special. I don't think we as musicians could help it much, constantly looking for an edge to create more, and "better" music. The problem is, there is no edge...it is only us, the universe, and the silly toys we have invented to communicate our love for the "sport". Thrill of the chase, and all that...

The ultimate aim for the peripherals is to add to the musical experience you have. A number of my favourite pedals were semi-dissed by the gear page communities out there who bicker over what you have and what you should have. What they cannot take away is your musicianship and the ways you have amassed to deepen your musical power. Gear is a small part of that. BTW, have you seen those new UAD amp sim pedals that dropped today🤣🤣🤣? I rest my hypocritical case…Nice playing, also LOVE that arp bit at around 9:40…Play on…

I bought the Supa Puss for the crazy long delay times but kept it for the SOUND. Ironically I consider it my clean delay cos my other main delay is a DOD Rubberneck which is Fffilthy

I really like the Moogerfoogers. I find chaining them is a bit of a challenge, since they aren't true bypass. Maybe I just don't know how to dial in the boost and volume, appropriately. Do you find that can be an issue for you between the Phaser and Ring modulator? I am thinking that an EHX Tri Parallel might be the solution to my challenges in that regard. Thanks for sharing!

I use pedals all the time - as a) my reverb and delay sounds way better and is more versatile than the effects built into some hardware synth and b) I can do weird stuff with the turn of a physical knob and experiment and listen and explore instead of "programming numbers into a DAW". I recently got some Pladask Elektrik glitch pedals and they're so much fun! Love them to bits.

Subharmonicon let's gooooooooo! I've long been jealous of your Moogerfoogers. And who's to say what the "right" way to use any pedal or instrument is. Just make good sounds, lots of times that involves departing from the user guide and ads.

That LED issue on the Blue Hippo "might" simply be due to a cold solder joint and reflowing the solder pads could be all it needs? You don't solder yet? Learning to solder might make for a good video or two for your channel! 😁 If you want some suggestions/help shoot me an email! 😎👍

Do you use a reamp device at all? Or are all these pedals made for line level? Or just don't worry about it? I wanna get into pedals with synths, but the impedance issues are making my head spin...

I am a certified Moog simp. Seeing all this Moog gear just makes me chortle with glee.

Nice one! For live playing, do you use any other equipment? DI-box? Amplifier? I recently started jamming with other musicians and I was wondering about that.

I use a radial reamp for one of my synths as I noticed that it has a tendency to clip when going into my effect pedals. And "the pill" sidechain pedal for bringing out my drum synth nicely.

Had a lot of compact multi-function gear & have now moved away from that. A lot to be said for simple stuff that you know will add very particular life/character when you reach for them or stomp on them. Big knobs, no menus or hidden modes. It's all about the human-machine interface!

That phaser is chewier than salt water taffy!

you can't really go wrong with moog pedals. They are expensive but they last for decades and sound great. a lot of people these days have this attitude that there's a formula for music and it's really bunk. There are lots of formulas for audio engineering but not the art it's self.
