Mahito physicals before shibuya were trash hell even in shibuya most of his physicals are trash outside of his soul manipulation giving him weapon arms and making clones even then yuji and was stronger the only reason Mahito wasn’t dead is domain expansion and soul manipulation which lets you change the shape and structure of your body. Mahito is very hax but not really that powerful even durability wise Mahito has to constantly change his soul. As we see when he can’t he’s barely hanging on even in shibuya when yuji combos mahito due is barely hanging on soul manipulation literally is Mahito crutch. The only good physicals he has is like against a suppressed nanami against a mentally broken yuji and final evolution Mahito which is against only because of his ability and even then it was unstable as towards the end it was falling apart. Like the only thing that would have saved Mahito was the extra evolution but honestly I don’t think that’s an impressive statement especially when mahito is the one who has the upper hand for the most part yet proceeds to fumble the bag in every way.

It's mainly because it was a 0.2 second DE. That's the main reason Mahito thinks he is safe. It's debatable if Sukuna could slash Mahito if he really wanted to kill him in that moment. I personally believe he could, but he didn't even bother because Mahito's arrogance amused him and he realized Mahito is going to lose to Yuji. I wrote this before finishing the video and I realized you mostly agree with me lol.

If shibuya Mahito was the same, then Yugi (and Sukuna) would have had their souls transfigured. But they didn’t, because they weren’t targets for the sure hit. If what you say is true, then Yuji would have gotten transfigured like Todo, no exceptions. Same as how Dagon can individually send his shikigami at people. If the sure hit just auto-hit everyone in the domain, the Maki group would have been affected while Dagon was fighting Toji. Early series Mahito simply didn’t have the skill at the time

I think Mahito cried like that because ,as he is a "human curse" ,he "inherited" their cowardice and fear of death ,that being said ,i still think Mahito is goated.

Ok I’m a manga reader so there is more context that I am taking into account. It seemed (both in anime and manga) that sukuna is generally enjoying the show and fight and growth of these two warriors. The two being BOTH mahito and yuji and I think that’s what you and a lot of commenters are missing. Almost certainly from what sukuna says about yuji later on, he thought or even knew that yuji was going to win this fight which is why we get the iconic smirk and head tilt while mahito is bad mouthing. Like you said; artistic choice. I’d elaborate further cuz I feel pretty confident but this is already long.

This is parallel is cemented in chapter 236 where Sukuna says "I will never forget you, Gojo Satoru." Meanwhile Mahito said "Eventually I'll forget you" to Yuji in their Shibuya fight. It shows the difference between the more mature Sukuna who has lived his life as a champion and only lives to savor life until he dies. Whereas Mahito is still a brand new curse who doesn't have thay kind of maturity yet

2 reasons probably. 1. He's amused by Mahito. It's like watching an ant throw a small rock at you. You'd be amused and let it do its thing 2. Sukuna enjoys hurting Yuji. So, him letting go of Mahito means more pain for Yuji. Also, he isn't really bothering him so he just let him do his thing

And agreed that Sukuna respected Mahito at that moment. He appreciated the cleverness of the .2 domain expansion. But also Sukuna knew Mahito would get packed up by Fake Geto lol.

So basically it’s either a.) The DE was so fast Sukuna didn’t have time to react (which is how I initially read the scene since he doesn’t move during this interaction as if he’s frozen in time) or b.) He let it slide because “Game recognize game”. There’s also the third option I’ve seen people posit which is that Sukuna just knew Mahito was going to get whupped by Yuji and just let it go, but I don’t think that’s as feasible since Sukuna literally takes every opportunity possible to diss Yuji and say how weak and ineffective he is. I don’t think he thought Yuji could deal with Mahito and even if he did I don’t think that would affect his decision making.

Third option is unlikely because that would suggest that Sukuna had any faith in Yuji to win that fight, and we all know that Sukuna is one of Yuji’s biggest haters. Mind you, this is the fight where Yuji needed to be saved from Mahito by Nobara and then Todo multiple times. I don’t see why Sukuna would have any confidence in Yuji winning this fight. I’d be more willing to believe that Sukuna had confidence in Mahito losing the fight because Todo was there, but idk.

Nobara cost mahito close to over half his soul's output and todo then had to come in and play defense and set up plays for yuji to continue the assault. Sukuna has time and time again shown that he doesn't find individuals interesting, nor competent in those who rely on friends. That's his whole shtick. Mahito was showing a crazy play with the 0.2 domain, and Sukuna recognized his talent when he saw it. I'm blown away that you think Sukuna was putting his chips on yuji winning that fight when yuji already disappointed sukuna by losing to Choso, which he stated by the way. The author has also stated that yuji straight up dies in that fight if it wasn't for Todo's final "Clap."

I think it's really cool to compare this moment to Jogo Vs Sukuna, because in a similar situation where a domain either leads to death or immediate success, Jogo refuses to use it while Mahito goes straight for it. If Jogo during his confrontation with Sukuna had tried and succeeded a 0.2 second domain, Jogo could've landed his hit on Sukuna without retribution, but he decided to play it safe instead and died for it. It really kind of goes back to what Gojo said to Megumi in Season 1, characters like Mahito and Yuji will always swing for the fences and characters that go for a safe bunt like Jogo and Megumi will always sacrifice themselves for the team, and unfortunately the people who played it safe usually don't develop past their limits.

I'd say Sukuna was surprisingly pleased by Mahito's growth and potential as well as his talent, much the same way he was intrigued by Megumi's potential. I doubt he'd let Yuji kick the bucket easily because of how much power is in him now, it's an investment he wouldn't be quick to discard despite what happens later in the manga.

What I believe is that (correct me if I'm wrong) when Gojo and Mahito opened 0.2 seconds domain, they weren't spending 0.2 seconds in the domain but rather opening the domain and pausing it around the 0.2 secs mark. That is why Gojo's domain didn't have a barrier and why Mahito could pass Sukuna without a problem cause it just wasn't powerful enough for Sukuna to care.

one thing to note about the time dilation idea is that thoughts are much faster than speech, so i think as you stated it was just a narrative representation and not literal

Mahito needed a Black Flash to land 0.2 DE. While Gojo just launched that shit off the cuff. But I personally think Mahito was safe. Checks and Balances are a thing in JJK. The way Yuji couldn't regain control of his body when Sukuna took over and killed the Finger Bearer is the same way Sukuna couldn't launch an attack during his 0.2 DE. Mahito's soul was in and out of there so quickly that Sure Hit Effect only made the interaction possible but nothing else. The same way Sukuna/Yuji souls were safe Idle Transfiguration is the same way Mahito was safe from any retaliation from Sukuna.

Sukuna clearly tells Jogo that he won't be one of the strongest because he behaves like he's already lost without even trying. That's why he didn't open his domain in the battle against Sukuna. On the other hand Mahito was always considered a curse that would eventually become Sukuna level if he lived long enough, jogo meant it and that's why he made Mahito the leader of he curses. Long story short, Sukuna Punished jogo for not opening his domain (and showing lack of character of what makes you the strongest) and rewarded Mahito for opening it ( showing the ego and drive to overcome any obstacle), giving him smirk that signified "this guy gets it" That said, in 0.2 second he wouldn't be able to hit Mahito? are you kidding? that Sukuna guy literally stood right below a meteor sent by gojo and left last second for fun. He's so fast he would have massacred Mahito if he wanted to, Literally the strongest character in the series

Dang that’s cool. If that is indeed the intent, The anime should have mentioned it. It would add so much to sukuna and the curses character
