If you look closely at the series and the Manga. Yoriichi is the main protagonist in the Manga. Everything that happened was due to Yoriichi. Yoriichi taught Breathing to Demon Slayer corps and was the reason for formation of special swordsmen - the hashiras. It was Yoriichi who spared Tamayo who later found a cure to turn demons back into humans and also drugged Muzan which eventually led to his downfall. Yoriichi also saved the Kamado family whose descendant(Tanjiro) later became reasons for Muzan's reckless actions and revealing himself. Yoriichi also gave Muzan unhealable damage which not only weakened him but also the scars helped Tanjiro and others to know the location of his hearts and brain without TW. He also showed Sun breathing to the Kamado family which in turn made Tanjiro better than being with other breathings, also it helped Tanjiro in the battle against Muzan. Even his earrings helped till the very end.

First of all Naruto is a show which is named after the character Naruto, hence any possibility of someone being the main protagonist ends right there while Kimetsu no Yaiba means "demon killing blade". And throughout the series Yoriichi's blade is of far more significance than any other especially when wielded by Yoriichi himself. Also in Naruto, no side characters are basis for Naruto's character but in Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro is pretty much signified as a shadow of Yoriichi especially when upper moons get flashbacks from Muzan's cell. They all fear him because of Yoriichi. Tanjiro also wields Yoriichi's sword and even in the end he is compared to Yoriichi by Muzan and also tells that Tanjiro will never be on his level. Also Yoriichi has contributed far more to the plot than Tanjiro. In Naruto Being a shinobi or not would not change anything as it is about the curse of hatred among humans which has no relation to being a shinobi. Even before Kaguya came the fights were still happening as shown that the husband of Kaguya had fights with some other kingdom or whatever. Naruto's mission is to end that cycle of hatred hence it has nothing to do with being a shinobi. On the contrary before Naruto the three other protagonists tried to use Ninshu as the basis for peace(Hagoromo, Ashura and Hashirama) while Naruto understood that it was not about the power but the feelings that needed to change and played the key role in uniting everyone. While in Kimetsu no Yaiba there are no such things there is a creed called demons who are a threat to humans and humanity which needs to end and Yoriichi played the most significant roles in that. Anyone could play the part of Tanjiro(like Tanjuro, Giyu, Rengoku, Kanae, Gyomie., etc. All of these people had good heart and character but none was like Yoriichi.)
