My country in Africa (Eritrea) denied everyone basic human rights such as freedom of speech, right to vote, subjected us to indefinite national service (slavery), the list continues... I love Kenya but if I stayed as an Eritrean refugee, I'd probably be homeless. Instead I came to the States with a scholarship and enjoy all the opportunities I couldn't back home. I dream of moving back to Kenya cos I don't feel like I belong here (I definitely get your point Brittney) but it's one thing to move back with the privileges of US passport and $$ that my African brothers don't have there. So yeah bruh, come here and go back with the resources that'd change your life back home.

Im a American and faught for many rights during the 60's to change this system over here and we all have to do that we went up against this system and still doing so only then to watch others walk throught the doors of what we faugth and died for and this sytem still tries to deny us many things by law and voting rights we should have , I love this country it is the BLack man who built it and I love the privileges I do have there are many differences for one I have the right to speak and have the freedom to do so and march , there are certain areas there that have thier issues with African American one African told me he has a country and a flag that was a insult to me because if it were not for the likes of the African American many would not have the right to be here going to school working of living here we died have those doors opened , I could not come to Africa and be insulted or caught up in those type of feelings or if something should break out over there I would be the first to go because of the feelings towards me I have only seen one place here that has apologised to African Americans and that is Ghana who has begged us to come home and welcomed us to do so and help rebuild

@@prettyeyes1752 Africans hate attitude. They have been looked down upon by colonialists for years and after independence, don't show them attitude. Most Africans go abroad on sports scholarships or academic. Others are human trafficked by organizations that pose as NGOs or foundations offering jobs. So if you came across this kind of group, you cannot say they are there courtesy of African Americans. It's noble to support the vulnerable. Such an attitude may have caused the response you received to show a flag. If you Respect others culture and space, am sure they will respect you. Even in Ghana am sure if you show them attitude they will withdraw. Otherwise sorry for the experience.

@@betsysindani3171 Im very shure we have major attitudes especially in the country we built they all think all Negros came over on the Trans Atlantic slave trade no that is not true but we have been thrown into the name giving business for years accept for who we really are The Aboriginals and not the native indian there will never be change until you tackle the system that is coming up against you , South Africa had to do it and Blacks in America had to do it and that paved the way for many to go and come and enjoy and get jobs to prosper , and we still have to tweek it every now and then to come to Different areas of Africa if you ask them about African Americas they do give us much respect for the things we have acomplished here and many make use of it , I think we all need to respect each other for all strides we have made up against many racist systems encluding this one I don't want come to Africa and come up against being African America if things jump off over there I might as well stay her and go through things I have faught for

Very good interview with my Liberian Brother. I've been in Kenya for 8 years from the U.S.A. working and even did my MBA here. I travel all over Africa for work and Kenya ranks up there with the best of Africa.

I heard "basic" first time too 😅 Matatus use numbers. you identify your destination by looking at the number placed on a plaque at the front or on tip. The number is also painted on the matatu. Like Number 30 plies Waiyaki Way. You can drop off anywhere from the CBD to Kikuyu Township

Brittany, they’ve even said Kibera is the largest slum in Africa, when it is a lie, it is not and has never been, and there are official statistics that are always ignored. The post election violence of 2017 was sponsored. Before then Kenya was referred to as a peaceful country. 1000 people died, a dot compared to civil wars and even what happened in Rwanda where 1 million people died, but they’ve labelled Kenya as not peaceful, yet many Kenyans would not even kill another Kenyan, and tribalism is not unique to Kenya either. Besides, Kenya hosts more refugees than many African countries, probably the highest on the continent, and people from neighboring countries run to Kenya for refuge. There have been 3 terror attacks, but people make it seem like there are bombs everyday in Kenya. The hunger situation normally affects about 2 million people in Northern Kenya, from a population of about 55 million people, but it is said Kenyans are starving..it is just ridiculous how people interpret these things.

It’s not 1000 people that died. People that died in Nakuru, and the Rift Valley were more. They watered down the numbers to protect the ‘sponsors’ of those senseless killings. However, compared to other countries kenya is mostly peaceful Dave for political and tribal influences which I believe we have conquered.

Something about Matatus, they have routes that they operate in. You just need to know the number of the route to your neighborhood. For example I stay in Kasarani Thika road and my route is 17B so all Matatus with play cards named 17B will take me to my doorstep. With that you will be good to go.

@@BrittneyCaldwell not officially, unfortunately Matatus aren't the most organized mode of transportat. But you can search online or enquire from one of your neighbours or someone who plys that route.

@Britney and all, Liberia is actually a federation of Liberia(Former AA from the South) and AA from the state of Maryland and DC areas who went back to Africa. In 1848 they were basically two countries that federated to form Liberia. Read the history of the founding of Liberia.

As much as I love West Africa, I must agree with you that the West African beaches aren't that great. East African topography has the advantage as far as the beaches go. The Indian Ocean like the Caribbean Sea has beautiful water because of the geological formations under the water which makes for gorgeous beaches. Nothing to do with the people at all.

I actually found out this year that most West africa coastline has no Coral reefs,thats why you hardly find activities like snorkelling etc. Also i think generally the west coastline has not being promoted as a tourism spot hence little investment has gone to preserve,improve the coastline.

I have NEVER wanted to go to America and the UK , have been to most places have wanted to go to, like Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and most of Western Europe and far East Asia. I lived in China for 4 years and met couples of Africa Americans, to be honest I didn't like their vibe. The first time Brittney moved to Nairobi, I'm one of those who bashed her on social media. I felt like she had a lot of misrepresentation of Kenya just like the other black and white Americans I met in China. Well, since then have been glued to her channel and as a new subscriber today, I can call myself to be one of her fans. I like her questions, straightforwardness and open-minded. Keep going girl, you live in my neighborhood, have seen you few times but one day we shall talk. All the best.

I feel you I went to the US FOR 6 months and black Americans were my worst enemies than whites in fact I got more help and love from whites than blacks. I am more negative about them too. I wouldn't waste my money ever to go to the U.S ever till my death unless it's being paid for a HORRIBLE PLACE.

That's the difference between American and African culture. Americans are more individualistic while Africans are more communal, that's why the Liberians have a community group, they create it to assist each other when someone needs help. Most Africans abroad create such communities.

Just came across this conversation. Key take away is the internet(tech) part of the conversation. One thing is that Kenya is not so much endowed by natural resources such as oil or gold. It's biggest resource has turned out to be it's human capital. With that, competition is tough, then as a population, has to be creative, aggressive and innovative. Coupled with government programs, it has become quite easy for the tech space to be opened up. Say, the government has helped it's population leverage on its abilities through supportive programs. The internet and tech is quite a big market in Kenya, even to the remotest of places. It's turned out to be the biggest resource. According to studies, Kenyan's lives and their ecosystems depend averagely 70% on internet and tech. That's quite big.

Rwanda too have a very effective internet!.

The gentleman is disciplined and focused on his goals rightfully. We in diaspora can learn a lot from this. Stop worrying about dating and build relationships and when courting take is seriously respectful. I noticed that you said internet service was $50. monthly there and in the states $100. as a package. I'm disgusted that I pay $216. monthly been though it's a package including reliable internet, wifi, cable and phone. That difference would be welcomed. We need to slow down and give up something and relearn what's. really important

Life in America is tough most of our Afrikan people do not know it. In Afrika we have been lied to by the media and Hollywood. Africans must build and promote Afrika.

Try beaches in Lagos Nigeria. Nigeria is a beautiful place. The biggest country in Africa. Unfortunately, there's huge insecurity there now. Lagos is calm but you must link up with a friend who can take you round so that you don't walk into bad guys

The reason why Kenya's internet is fast and cheap is that 5 underwater fibre cables terminate in Mombasa i.e, Djibouti Africa Regional Express 1 (DARE 1) ,SEACOM, Easts African Marine Cable System(TEAMS), Eastern African Submarine Cable System (EASsy) and Lion2. This has the impact of reducing the cost & increasing the speed.
