This is a myth, unless you HAVE to have a high-end trim like the Limited or King Cab. You can get an F350 XL for well under $50,000. The $80,000+ trucks are luxury toys and status symbols. Most people don't review the entry level trims because they're not as exciting, so you don't see them on here, which gives the impression all trucks cost that much. Both GM and Ford offer 3/4 and 1-ton trucks in the 40 thousand range.

@@laneblount9888 Yeah, diesel really is what puts the price over the top - which is why they haven't caught on among those that aren't pulling 5th wheelers or huge contractor trailers. Depending on make, it add 9 - 12K to the price. If you go gas you can get an F350 4wd 4 door for $53K (I just priced one out). If I was looking at diesel I'd definitely go the used route. I'm not paying 60+ grand for a truck.

They only want to order outrageously expensive trim levels where I am at. Plus many times on build your own situations you cant just add one feature, they want to force other stuff in it. Bout like cable TV and look what happened to them.

The best way to purchase a heavy duty truck is to have it built with your specifications and order it from the factory. This is the way you get rid of all the extras which are installed on the trucks that run the cost up. Most companies don't need all the extras.

Been in the automotive business for over 20 years. When the economy gets bad everyone who drives a truck because they want to swaps out to something smaller. People who pull an excavator or a trailer for a living still purchase the correct truck for them because their livelihood doesn’t get lighter.

Been buying new trucks since 1990. The manufacturers have priced themselves out of.most people's price range. I realize the greed if unions have driven the.prices through the roof, but they are ridiculous now!

Union blaming is mostly the result of industry propaganda. The makers choose their margins and target market which is always rich people. Ever notice how businesses always blame everyone else for their mistakes? The US steel industry is another example of squandering a huge lead given by WWII then running their operations into the ground.

PRICE!!! That is the ONLY reason truck sales have slowed!! I sat for over a year and a half waiting for prices to come down and finally threw in the towel and had to pay dumb. Not everyone wants to spend $65-95k for a truck!!

They are over priced and they are in general the least reliable HD trucks produced in over 25 years . Too many gadgets that cost money . The diesels are far too expensive and ppl a have had enough with their emissions problems and fuel sensitivity dur to a weak cp4 pump. In 2020 GM and Ford didn’t change the game they simply started selling 1 ton trucks with 3/4 ton stickers. It’s still a 1 ton anything over 10000 gvwr is first off subject to DOT regulations when used in business and second classified as a category 3 which is a 1 ton. Insurance companies use 10000 as the number as well, so in the end they did this because the trucks are getting heavier and ppl are getting smarter realizing a 3/4 ton loaded Ram Cummins is only as capable as most base half tons payload wise. Consumers are realizing Ram is so far behind due to the limited power output weak transmission and limited payload,there’s really not much reason to buy a Ram 3/4 t with a Cummins for heavy work it’s basically a HD grocery getter.

JB I like your content but I think ur honestly a little out of touch because u are doing well financially. It is near impossible to buy these trucks at this price and rates. Without the skyrocketing inurance considered.... Unless u can write them off in a business. So what u are seeing is the difference in people like myself that pulled from the market totally that are not business owners, even w six figures.. 1k plus monthly payments are just too much for a family. Only business owners or 200k plus guys are buying this overpriced crap. Got my old truck keeping that up. W market starting to turn a little I may look late next year at a mid range priced truck. Still waaay too high for most.

Not too High for most, as these trucks are marketed towards people who need them. The people who stopped purchasing the are the ones who didn't need them but wanted one.. What stopped them from purchasing them was Interest rates. If you look at the number of Pick ups sold year to year over the last 20 years nothing has changed as far as the total numbers sold. Just the prices have gone up. It's a market with highs and lows. But the people who keep stating the prices are too high, i say welcome to Joe Bidens economy. Rib eye 5 years ago was $6 to $8 ucks, now are $14 to $16 nearly double which is in line with everything else.

Thats a tiny percentage u are talking a out w these, most people that buy 3/4 up trucks need them for something specific Sales are, for all intent and purposes, flat over nearly a decade. That is essentially losing in a corporation. People have increased and yet they are flat, incomes have increased, they are flat. Theyre making higher margins selling same #. Which means, they cut or lost out some of their repetitive business. Some holding out like me, some buying Toyota or whatever. I know many, many people like myself that need a truck, have a truck, want a new truck can afford some if we choose to but are just not going to do it right now for the prices and cost of money. This includes many business owners and manager who usually rotate faster than they are. The #s released are also a farce. They are selling into their own rental fleets to hold allocation. Or clearancing to fleets. Buy 10 get a free EV. Tons of shenanigans going on right now. The truth is a high percentage of normally repeat customers like myself are fed up with them and fixing older stuff. If u like to blow your money on a depreciating asset that has increased in price at 3X the rate of inflation in a 3-4 yr period, feel free. I will invest mine elsewhere.

I agree with you somewhat. I know people not making that kind of money but they are grinding their teeth and buying them. The major factor to how they can afford these is that their house is already paid off. They plan to keep the trucks for a very long time though and without a mortgage they have had a decent amount of time to muster a good down payment. This is definitely not the situation for most people though.

My family purchases new cars often and we put over 100k on all of them. It is always exciting to make a purchase and look for a good deal. Not any more. Our last purchase was a 2021 Power Wagon and we dont plan on making any purchases in the near future because of cost, financing, lack of incentives, and quality of cars (such as the Tundra engine recalls).

I remember at the end of the year there was discounts off msrp , you could get a good deal on brand new. Now your lucky too get it at msrp. Very sad. 1,000k payments ain’t in the cards. My house and family are way more important then a depreciating asset When there’s a fire sale or big discount on these. And interest rates go down. I’ll buy 1. But until then I’ll fix my old truck.

I was in the market and was fully committed to buying a brand new F250. Then I found a 2020 Lariat with every option Lariat offers and bought it instead. I saved OVER $30,000. I’m glad I made the choice I did

People are getting smart and realizing if they keep paying the higher prices they will keep jacking up the prices. None of the HD trucks are worth over 40 grand it only costs them about 20 grand to build one yet they sell them for 80-90 grand and people pay it. Boggles my mind how America has forgotten if you want prices to come down STOP buying them like they are now. They sit long enough the price will drop. High interest charges and inflation have also smothered folks.

It costs 18k-22k to make one truck on the Assembly line bump that up to 24k-25k for the latest inflation I would add the link proving my numbers, but it rejects it so you got to look it up. Just Google how much it costs GM and Ford to manufacture pick up trucks!

There weren’t many duallies though. The only time now you see a big jump in GVWR is when you go from SRW to DRW. But as you got those sticker closeups, them price tags are insanity. 🤯

I have a 23’ F250 w/6.8L V8. GVWR of 10,500 lbs and payload 3,822 lbs. I tow a 32” 8,000 lbs travel trailer. I got plenty of payload for hitch weight and cargo of family (wife + 3 kids) generator, cooler, miscellaneous stuff. For my situation my 3/4 ton is great. Also the 6.8L has plenty of pulling power going up mountain ranges.

I bought my 1999.5 F250 7.3 manual for $7500 during the 2008 crash. Paid cash. I still own it and it still runs great. Almost no repairs over the years. Normal maintenance only. A new F250 or F350 would be nice, but I can't justify it financially. I would rather put that money in CDs or Treasuries and get 5+ percent.

I felt the same when i was shopping. The 2500 was a weird purgatory between the 1/2 and 1 ton, but was stickered like a beefed up 1500 and the payload was subpar. Got my 2024 3500 lt DRW for 63k with 10k miles on it. When buying mine, Ram in Huntington Beach had a brand new 23 laramie 3500 DRW cummins for 52k + TLF, I think it said 15k off msrp. Was hard not getting the Ram

In BC Canada there’s no Luxury tax on 1 ton but there is on 3/4 so it makes more sense to buy the 1 ton.

Rams payload is based on them using coil springs, all other brands use leaf springs which are stiffer. Thus lending to higher payload.

I just spent 2 months trying to buy a 2500hd chevy from 2014 gas to 2019 diesel and could not get one. I was driving to buy them and they were selling before i got there

If I was buying today, I'd go 1 ton all the way, just makes the most sense, really always has, but like you said, manuf just never mass produced them in the past. But like the vast majority on here have said, no matter what you got right now, you better appreciate it and take care of it. I'm still driving my 13 gmc 2500 lml, and honestly despite the nagging emissions CEL, it's a solid trk that is extremely comfortable. Gonna take a lot for me to give that up and entertain spending 80 to 90k to replace it and only see small improvements over current capabilities.

If you're still selling your price is alright. If you aren't still selling you raised your prices too much and priced yourself right out of the market. It's really the most basic economics we all learned in elementary school.

I ordered a Ram 2500 Big Horn with night edition and gas. I have the same truck now with a Cummins. The new one that just came in and is $6000 CDN higher than what I paid for my current one. Crazy.

And I should add…at the time when I bought my current Ram they were offering no charge diesel off of the sticker. Sticker was $83k for the 2019 and minus the diesel. Which was $8k off I think. Insanity.

A 3/4 ton in low to mid trim level with a gas engine is around the same price as a lot of 1/2 tons in certain trims. 3/4 ton is a way better purchase.

I plan ln special ordering a brand new $58k regular cab F350 because i plan on selling my home and living in a 40 foot 5th wheel camper and I'll need a teuck to haule it comfortably.

It's all about gearing & torque for diesels. Go to a Midwest rodeo where folks use trucks daily & pull hills regularly . It's all Ford & Dodge diesels.

I've been looking at ram tradesman 3500 4x4 crew cab regular bed single rear wheel with 5th wheel prep with a gas motor and comparing it with the same 2500 ram believe it or not they are only a few thousands off so why waste time buying a 2500 it's only going to make the payment a few more dollars

The Ram 2500 has coil springs in the rear which accounts for the lower payload capacity, if I’m not mistaken.

The main reason is the extremely limited 10k GVWR. Coils are secondary to that.

As an Alaskan down visiting family in Idaho I will tell you this much the half ton or three-quarter ton truck-If you don’t go with a suburban or Yukon is the family truck for running the family around town. When you’re going to get out on the highways of Alaska or into the back country the 1 ton is the man’s truck. Permafrost thieves. Destroy Alaska’s highways constantly. AKDOT does an amazing job but when you are in the Arctic or subarctic, there is a Permafrost thieves. Destroy Alaska’s highways constantly. The company which operates and maintains the Alaska pipeline Alyeska buys approximately 60% Ford, 30%, Dodge/Ram and 10% GMC or Chevrolet. The Dodge they buy for the Cummins and the simplicity of maintaining it. The GM’s are for the old guys with arthritis because they have the best heaters. Unfortunately, Alaska is extremely brutal to independent front suspension vehicle‘s. Especially if you tow with them or carry a lot of weight. I have nothing against Chevrolet or GMC. I’ve owned two of each. However, I have gone back to Ford and the solid front axle because GM’s just don’t sit high enough so they get stuck in deep snow to easy. Furthermore, their alignment gets knocked out constantly and if you keep your truck for a while at about 8 to 10 years you’re going to start replacing your upper and lower ball joints constantly ! If you want a front end that will last, then you go with a solid front axle. If you want a truck which will last especially if you’re in coastal Alaska, you get a Ford. If you don’t mind replacing your upper and lower ball joints you get a GM. You do not. I repeat you do not ever ever get a RAM- unless you have a climate controlled garage, which you can keep it in. If your garage is like most Alaskan garage is and it keeps the snow off but it’s too expensive to heat and climate control it then you don’t get a Ram!!! Last year alone, I counted over 10 new Ram pick up trucks, in my neighborhood alone, which were purchased brand new from the dealer, and they all rusted completely through their wheel wells and fenders before they were even one year old!! I have been watching Dodge/Rams do this for over 10 years in the place where I currently live in Alaska. You do not see this on GM’s or Ford’s. Alaska is simply brutal. It is Darwinian selection of the fittest. I remember when every dealer in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Palmer, Wasilla and other places said notice to visiting lower 48’ers if you have a Ford 6.0 or 6.4 power stroke we will not take it on trade in! We’re sorry if you’re broken down up here, but we will not take FORD’s with those engines on trade in!! I finished my military career in Alaska many years ago. As I said, I’ve had two Chevys, 2 GMC‘s and I have a Four-season trailer for use when I want to go ice fishing in the winter, camping in the summertime or hunting in the fall or spring. I have purchased what will be my last truck And I chose a 2024 Ford F350 Tremor. I want all the ground clearance so I can get through snow. I don’t want to have to replace upper and lower ball joints and I don’t want my truck rusting. Yes, aluminum can corrode but it cannot rust. Those are two completely different processes at the molecular level. I don’t like trucks which have been lifted aftermarket, because far too many people, forget how important it is to ensure your front and rear drive lines enter the transmission at the same angle they did when the truck left the factory. So they lift their truck and their drivelines enter the transmission at a different angles, and then they blow out the transmission a few hundred to a few thousand miles down the road depending on how hard they used them and they can’t figure out why! This is why I chose the Ford Tremor stock. It is by far the best truck suited for the harsh conditions of Alaska from the interior to the coastal regions. There’s one other feature which FORD has I have not seen on any other brand, and in Alaska it could be the difference between life and death. The ability to still manually switch your hubs into four-wheel-drive if the vacuum transfer motor fails. For Alaska this literally could mean the difference between life and death! If you’re only going to visit Alaska in the summertime I WANT TO REMIND YOU OF ONE THING WE HAVE A STATE LAW IF YOU ARE HOLDING UP MORE THAN FIVE VEHICLES BEHIND YOU, YOU MUST PULL OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND ALLOW EVERYONE TO PASS YOU!! I DON’T MEAN TO BE RUDE, BUT ALASKANS GET REALLY TIRED OF LOWER 48’ERS HOLDING UP TRAFFIC FOR MILES BECAUSE THEY DON’T KNOW THIS LAW. BELIEVE ME WHEN THE ALASKA TROOPERS SEE YOU YOU WILL LEARN OF THE LAW AND YOU WILL PAY THE FINE! I will just deal with this. I find it very interesting the company who owns and maintains the Alaska pipeline from Prudhoe bay all the way down to Valdez purposely chooses solid axle trucks, and they choose by a vast majority to purchase FORD.

In the last 3 years the out the door price has went up 30-40% interest rate has doubled insurance has went up 30%. Really not justifiable unless you just need a tax right off. Plus with the newest electrical systems they all have glitches.

car sales in general have slowed way way down, this has been known for quite some time now so it didnt surprise me .......cost, APR rates, used car trade ins have tanked as well ( paying more for new and getting less for yours) was kinda shocked it lasted as long as it did, those were not normal times whatsoever.....expect it to get worse B4 getting better for dealerships

most likely the payload capacity is too low! All the fancy and unnecessary stuff, and crew cab configurations eat away at the 3000# plus payload ratings these trucks used to have back in the early 2000s. Now they are running in the mid 2000s in capacity very often.

It’s Price, and I’m a business owner and I make seven figures a year I refuse to buy one of these pick up trucks. I still drive my 2000 F350 with 390,000 miles. I honestly don’t see how an average wage earning family can justify buying anything with a payment over six or $700 a mo.

My 04 GMC 2500HD is in the shop right now and in dropping $8,500 to get a lot of work done. I went to the dealer and a similar optioned 2024 is $58K out the door. It really is simple, the economy is broken and people can't afford things.

Remember when 1 tons weighed 1000lbs more on 15 in rims. The cost of ownership on today's HD trucks is outrageous.

Anyone that could afford these trucks already got them and now folks will be holding onto vehicles longer due to how much they cost. I suspect we are going to see the 2020 model years being on the road for the next 20+ years with how expensive they are.

Where I am at they have very few 1 ton trucks as well. JB rolled past at least 15. I can barely find 10. Except for Ram.

Shop in an area where they have alot of agriculture or warehouses. Most city dealers won't have the bigger trucks, and the 1 or 2 they have will be a High Country for 100k.

In california you like my ram 3500 single rear wheel i have to sign the vehicle registration papers stating that its not going to pull more that 10000 lbs . My truck is rated to pull 21000 lbs . Denis from Santa Rosa Ca ps if you dont sign then you get a cdl tax for max tow .

@@itsallminor6133 i have had 2 other 3500 ram trucks the last one was a dually one ton and before that i had a single and i never had to sign any papers . So thats why i bought it.

For GMC, there isn't much of a difference in price between the 2500 and the 3500, so why not just go to the 3500?

Have you seen the cost of a brand new 3/4 ton truck these days?? Even gas trucks are around $80K dollars

Interest rates on HD trucks are always higher.

I don't know where you are doing your video, but in Illinois you can't find a Toyota truck on a lot and the only Ford trucks you can find are black, white or grey. Trucks in Illinois are selling great, if you can find them !

The price, and you can get a single wheel 1 ton for about the same amount.

biggest things is they are too expensive. when it comes to payload I prefer my 2500 with a 10,000 lb gvrw so I can have up to a 16,000 lb trailer and not need a cdl.

In my opinion...it looks like everyone has one already. I still have my 2014 Ram 3500 SRW with 70k miles....zero problems. Paid off truck in perfect condition....why do i need a new truck for a mortgage payment? I dont and wouldn't.

going from a 3/4 to 1 ton in some states bump you in a different weight class and may require a CDL depending what and who you are hauling for. Thats probably one reason why 3/4 vs 1 ton exists.

Which states? I believe all 3/4 and 1 ton pickups are the same class 3 trucks between a 10k -14k gvwr

@@syntheticjuice9279 Yea SRW vs SRW theyre close if not the same on alot of trims. All drw variants are 14k with no option to derate and you can derate the 3500 srw as low as 11k

As with all the rest of the comments.... COST! Throw high interest rates and the overall cost of living and you would be a fool to drop this kind of scratch on a luxury item. And yes this is a luxury item. If you factor in the buying power of the dollar or lack thereof of over the last 50 years these trucks should cost 65k on the high end. The manufactures have hyperinflated the cost over the last 20 years. I'll drive my old junk and I will keep throwing money at it until I can't get the parts or I'm too old to drive. They can keep this overpriced junk....

Interest rates! Once rates fall they will fly off the lot again. Basically 10% rates for an 60k truck is 18k interest.

Too expensive....I still fix and drive my 2016 Silverado with the 6.6 L LML Duramax

Most people don't even need a 1/2 ton truck ..let alone a heavy duty truck .plus these cost more than a damn Peterbilt

GVWR is arbitrarily set at 14,000 for a 350. The practical difference between 250 and 350 is negligible. It you really want payload, get a DRW. You can safely exceed GVWR by a large margin on a DRW truck.

Nobody has money to live out their favorite country songs no more. 90% of truck owners don’t really need them and would be better off renting a Home Depot truck when they need to haul something 1-2 times per year. Gets to a point where people just can’t afford them. You’re a fool to pay interest on a truck unless it’s 100% business use. In any case they should just get rid of the 2500s/F-250. I always buy the single rear wheel F-350.

I can't fathom why all these people even want a 1 ton truck to go to the grocery stores. It's messed up. You can get a nice car for this kind of money

I don't get the logic here... if there are less 2500 trucks on a dealer lot, I'd think it's because they sold more of those so have less. Likewise if there are more 3500's, those aren't selling as well. End of the day, it doesn't matter becaujse they're both the same truck...the 3500 just has a sticker with +500 GVWR and stiffer rear suspension and axle. The 2500 will ride better and is forf somone concerned about CDL rules, where you want a truck less than 12000 GVWR so you can get a commonly sold 14000 GVWR trailer and be under 26000 (with a 3500, they're always over 12000 so you'd be over the limit). If you're towing a RV/camper via fifth wheel, IMO you're best off with a dually. My 2500 can tow 17000 LB via gooseneck heavy equipement trailer...the limit is almost 19k and it has a little over 3000 payload. Typical towing use for these trucks is a 3000-4000 LB trailer with a 10000LB skidsteer or mini ex.

My opinion is that there’s no point in buying a 3/4 ton when you can buy a 1 ton single rear wheel truck.

They are expensive. Also, I would go 1 ton SRW next time I buy a truck because I haul heavy with a dump insert sometimes and need the payload, but really don’t want to go up to a dually and don’t want the extra width of a dually. I agree. High trim means less payload and to get it back, go to higher GVWR with SRW one ton.
