GRRM has also said that Daemon is his favorite character from Fire and Blood because of how complex and multifaceted he is. Matt Smith did a fantastic job playing Daemon I just wish HotD's writing for him was better. I think the show kinda failed to portray Daemon's inner psychology at times. The show touched on it a little with the whole scene with him and Corlys talking about second sons in Westerosi society. The second son dilemma is what Daemon struggles with. He IS loyal to his brother and loves him. But he also resents that because he isn't the firstborn he can never reach his full potential. Viserys is a shit king and Daemon knows he would make a stronger king than him. Which is why he continually tries to prove himself with his campaigns in the Stepstones. But ultimately he loves his brother and would never actually usurp him through force. Which is where his frustration comes from. It's also kinda weird and unnecessary that the show had Daemon murder Rhea when in the books it's made clear he's FAR away from the Vale when she dies in a hunting accident. Daemon was only 16 when he was forced into a political marriage with the much older Rhea who was always cold towards him and couldn't have children. He wasn't some asshole who resented his badass wife. He was a teenage boy sent away from the only family he ever knew to marry a woman who he couldn't even have a family of his own with. It's really no wonder he resented her. I can understand why someone may walk away from the show thinking Daemon is just a crazy asshole but it's far more complex than that.

Thank you so much for mentioning this. I always felt that show writers did a number on Daemon. Apart from what you mentioned he is also not responsible for Leana’s death as the show portrays. Unlike the show Leana dies in Driftmark at her parents castle steps while she was walking to Vhaegar against everyone’s wishes Its Daemon who carries her back to the bed where the maesters pronounce her dead He wasn’t a selfish guy who forced his wife to give birth in a land far away rather he loved her and was by her side till the end. Same goes for the scene in show where he chokes Rheanyra never did that happen in the book. Yes he wasn’t a noble idealistic guy but he was a damn good grey character who does things for his family

@@ankitaranjan8279 Yeah, I'm sad we didn't get more scenes with Laena especially the scenes with her and Rhaenyra riding their dragons together and being great friends. Also wish they kept her death more similar to the books with Daemon and Rhaenyra by her side. Laena was just criminally underused. Her relationship with both Daemon and especially Rhaenyra is key to understanding the marriage pact between Laena's daughters and Rhaenyra's sons. It was their idea to betroth their kids together after they became friends. The Team Black/House Velaryon alliance makes a lot more sense in this situation compared to how they portray things in the show.

​@@tuckernutterMakes even more sense that with Caraxes' unique neck maneuverability, he parallels the unpredictable nature of his rider's dangerous character as while other dragons may be big and brutal or quick and vicious, Caraxes can be both with an edge in moving around the dragons of his master's enemies and snatching them right out of their saddles. Effectively increasing the danger such riders would face in battling Daemon riding such a uniquely lethal dragon.

So no they didn't nail his face as it doesn't look the same as described. Casting a 14 year old having s*x on screen is illegal, also Emily looked young event though she was 23 years. Matt doesn't look young at all. If you read my comment correctly you would know that I don't care about his actually age but more so about his look. He looks old and doesn't fit the book as the commenter above said. Emily looked young in Season 1, but why does it matter, I never said Emily nailed the book so why are you bringing her instead of making a compelling argue on the topic of Matt? I don't think the show really captured daemon. Matt Smith does a great job. But it kind of leaves of daemon sometimes in favor of rheanyra. He was the center piece figure head in the dance if the dragons.

Daemon and Nettles’ relationship was really foggy in the books and it was never really confirmed they were lovers. All we really know is that they spent some time together and he refused to follow Rhaenyra’s orders to kill her. At the very least they got along well since Nettles probably used blood magic to tame Sheepstealer like the Valyrian shepherds of old and Daemon is all about that old Valyrian stuff. There’s even a theory that Nettles is his bastard daughter, which I also find interesting. I look forward to seeing what direction HOTD goes with :)

@@pebblesramirez9290 True, but Valyrians became dragonriders not only through being shepherds and likely feeding the dragons, but through blood magic, and iirc there’s a scene right before the epic showdown at Harrenhal where they go to Sheepstealer together to saddle him and instead of just feeding Sheepstealer the oddly specific large black ram she brought, she slits it’s throat, implying some kind of blood magic, and there are theories in-universe of her possibly becoming some sort of fire witch in the Vale that started the Burned Men’s tradition of burning themselves to show their strength

They could not have found a better actor to play Daemon. Nor a cooler model for Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm. Also Caraxes _sounds_ in the show are fucking awesome.

the books hide a lot of stuff about daemon that you have to work really hard to try and understand. George put a lot of effort into writing him , probably wished he used a pov set up to flush that character out a lot more since it's his favourite character.

Daemon has the most badass “end” to any character in GOT history. They better do him justice in HOTD season 2!🔥

I would love to see Daemon's face when in afterlife he finds out that his daughter married a Hightower.

He is great in the show and the books

Daemon in the show: I sleep with every woman who comes in my path to the throne. Daemon in the books: I sleep with every woman who comes in my path.

Matt has that hooded stare down pat. He has incredible presence.

in the end Daemon win the war, all his children lived, Aegon and Viserys became kings, Baela became lady of Driftmark and Rhaena is the last dragon rider (before Daenerys)

You saw how loyal he was to his older brother. He's respected him and of course loved him. Yes. They didn't always see eye to eye, and Daemon is hot headed. But he always been loyal to his brother and shows his character has some empathy and passion for his family.

His relationship with Viserys was beautiful in the show. Both actors were excellent in their roles.

Everyone who wants to read Fire and Blood, first start with the novella Rogue Prince. It is about Daemon, but includes all of the intricacies and the Histories of the main characters before the Dance of the Dragons

Matt Smith play Daemon Targaryen perfectly. He was dashing, dangerous, moody and hot-tempered. He made the show.

Caraxes is 1 of 3 different types of dragons it has a serpent like body the 2 type is drogon a dragon that has spikes on its body and face and the 3 type is vaygar or rhaenyra dragon that have NO spikes on its body or face

Matt and Paddy absolutely nailed their roles as Daemon and Viserys. Phenomenal acting by 2 goats

Viserys and Daemon are basically Odin and Loki Viserys is clearly Odin with having only one eye and being shackled to an Object of pure power. (Yggdrasil the world tree being the Iron throne in this instance) Book Viserys is very much in a similar boat in the sense that his hubris ends up brining the downfall of everything he held dear just like Odin whose actions ended up bringing Ragnarok. (Ragnarok being the dance of dragons) Daemon is Loki for obvious reasons.

Show Daemon is a complete psycopath. I struggle to understand how so many people root for. Must be for the actor, I guess... EDIT: For those being picky, I said "psycopath" in the sense of being cruel and murderous, not the medical term. (those dont often go on killing sprees on real life either)Its pretty clear that he loves part of his family, but thats a f*cking low bar for being morally grey considering his heinous acts.

Not really, we see him care for some of the people in his life. Like Viserys and that velaryon girl that he married. He's not a morally good person but his complex character is what attracts fans to him.

Show daemon is not a psychopath since he seems to genuninely love the black side of the family as well as viserys and laena. Psychopaths are incapable of love.

I don't understand people who don't have hobbies. I've had hobbies since childhood. Now I'm mainly a quilter, but I also knit, ride my bike, and volunteer. I retired about 2yrs ago and I love it.

The biggest differences in my opinion are that he is a lot more ambitious in the books and he doesnt care about his family one bit he hates viserys because he kinda killed his unborn child and he just uses rheanyra to get on the iron throne but i think he loved leana more in the book compared to the show

Daemon loved Viserys with all his heart a lot of his actions in the series were because he wanted to be his brothers favourite. Daemon doesn’t want the iron throne he wants to make sure Viserys chosen heir ascends it.

he legit threatened to start a civil war if his brother was not picked at the great council. Fire and Blood requires educated reading. Not for everyone. Council of 101 was a tool to ensure Targaryen legacy stays in the family and does not pass to the valaryon line. Old king, his maester son Vaegon ,Daemon and viserys were probably all involved.

If all he wanted is his brothers throne he could have killed rhaenyra on dragonstone. He could have killed viserys any time he wanted because he had a dragon, viserys didn't. He was loyal to his brother.

Caraxes isn't "stunted". He was half the size of Vhagar, the largest dragon at the time.

Daemon and nettle's relationship was never confirmed and regarded as a rumour. others say they had a daughter-father relationship. Wonder how the show portrays it.
