@@shubhambrach1353 The people who has issues with the run-time of the classics are very people who binge watch whole season of series in one go. Moreover, they watch movies like Lord of the Rings (4+ hrs), Avengers Endgame (almost 3 hrs) and many more examples are there. The screenplay and direction was so ahead of its time that the Indian masses were not ready for it. For them it was just not entertaining enough and that my friend is the mentality of majority of our audience.

"Main nahi maanta ke hamara desh duniya ka sabse mahaan desh hai" think about this cinematic privilege (to speak reality and work towards improvement) they had then, which is not possible now.. Our Movies content deteriorated drastically and hence those special content shifted Online... ex. Webseries "Sacred Games' on Netflix, which I guess has potential to be matched with Sholay of 1970s.. but sad it is not part of our regular cinema...

Swades is SRK's best movie, he made us emotional like no other actor can even think of.

Swadesh is a timeless movie . Its just beyond the tags of flop and hit. Its 2019, almost 15 year have gone and people are still talking about this movie is the proof that it created a powerfull impact on the people of India. Its one of the rare creative work which will last long in the mind of audience and it will aggregate more and more respect in upcoming years. This movie didn't failed at box office instead we as an audience failed to understand the core conpect of this movie. Don't spoil this movie's brilliant work by comparing and analysing it with other movies of that time.

The scene where Shahrukh drinks water inside the train was pure cinematic brilliance. I cried. It's sad what has happened to Ashutosh Gowariker.

I was in UK, when swades released. Must have seen it 10 times. The movie is timeless . Never watched murder or other such hits till date.

I still think Srk's best performance was in Swades. Every character of the movie is perfect. He was not the superstar in this movie, he was the real actor. Way ahead of it's time. A timeless classic. & I still think that this movie should've selected for the Oscars instead of Paheli.

Some people would say Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra gave Shahrukh so many hits and popularity.. but they actually took away the great actor he was. His Baazigar, kabhi ha kabhi na, yes boss, chak de India, Swades, fan are the movies that proved his calibre. But unfortunately or fortunately he got typecast in romantic emotional hero. I think that Shahrukh Khan deserved national award for Swades. The train scene just ripped me apart. I was crying buckets in theatre. This movie is of another level. Wow. What an experience wow.

i think it flopped bcz of veerzara.....which is another love classic......so it was obvious at that time when SRK romantic aura was everywhere people would prefer veerzara over swades .....veerzara was there in theatre for 3 months and swades was released just after one month of veerzaara ... so it was an accidental failure..... but diamond shines with time thats why today its a masterpiece....the thing that hurts more than its failure was its ignorance in national award ...SRK for best actor ashutosh for best director and ARR for best music...and lyrics written by javed akhtar.......what a lyrics man.......#masterpiece in every aspects

I believe this was Shah Rukh’s best movie. This was a classic, with a combination of the script, simplicity, authenticity and Rahman’s music. One of my favourite movies

I don't think its fair with srk when he tried to move out of his romantic image he was failed by audience and now he himself can't move out if this image. As an actor srk has potential and has stardom as well.

You really hit the nail on the head with this video. Well done! Absolutely, following up Lagaan with an understated movie like Swades hurt it. Both movies are classics in their own right. The good news is that Swades, in my opinion, has helped pave a better path in Bollywood and I'm glad it's regarded as a cult classic today. Swades was definitely ahead of its time. That said, I'd argue movies like OMG, 3 Idiots, Pad Man, Jolly LLB, etc. wouldn't get made without Swades being there first. Movies that deal with problems in Indian society, but still are watched by the general audience. I'd also argue Swades ushered in an era of better Shahrukh Khan performances. To your point, Shahrukh Khan was an entertainer, not an actor, before Swades. He acted like SRK in all his roles, even when he portrayed Asoka or Devdas. But without the turning point of Swades, where he played his actual character, not himself, we don't get his remarkable performances in Chak De! India, Fan, or Dear Zindagi.

I had watched this for the first time on Tv on dd1 at that time i was studying in std.6/7 after i really felt tears in my eyes 👌👌👌👍👍 How such a masterpiece failed at box-office!!!😮

Finally!! I knew I wasn't the only one who thought this was SRK's best performance.

The reason why good contrnt fail in India is because of low IQ of cinema goers and the market developed by filmmakers. The audience is addicted to 1 hero fighting 50 people bare handed, shirtless heroes, flying scorpios and stammering main lead. This is still happening and keep on happening unless people realize films as their investment of time and money or else they will see no innovation it will go on and on like this for next 100 years.

Swades was clearly ahead of its time.if it had released in 2017 , it would definitely get appreciation like Dangal.

Well thought out and articulated piece. Your juxtaposition of Gadar's "jingoism" and Swades' nuanced narrative of nationalism being one of the reasons for the movie not being a Box-office success, however, is a textbook example of elites judging the "ignorant" and "uneducated" masses. If anything part of the reason Swades failed in theatres is because the aforementioned elite didn't give it the critical capital at their disposal that this masterpiece deserved, one reason for which could be SRK's massive popularity among the masses cutting across various differences and it being an outright defiance to the "intelligentsia's" super favorite narrative of Hindu-Muslim divide. In my experience, some of the staunchest supporters of the "jingoistic" BJP are in absolute awe of this movie. The real reasons for this movie not doing great include bad timing, lack of marketing and being a subtle and nuanced creation in a space where embellishment has been carefully nurtured and served for quite some time now, as the video succeeds in pointing out. Gadar's "jingoism" had nothing to do with it. You may try and have a poll here, asking people if they liked both Swades and Gadar. The answers will surprise and, hopefully, educate you.

I watched movie many times and loved this movie. If this release in today times then I m sure it will be able to manage easily 300 crores on the box office and becomes superhit

Man, ARR's music in this film was phenomenal & classic.. Just wowwwww Just imagine the music of someone's else in this film and you'll know what i am saying..

Why to confine him as a National Treasure... He is an International/ Global treasure that India has produced (World cherish him equally)... Undoubtedly, the ARR's music are immortal and relevant even today.. totally mesmerising..

Meeting kaveri amma, silently sitting on boat and kid selling water probably the most powerful scene in hindi cinema. Not to forget the brilliant selection of supporting actors made it look real. Iconic movie

Swades Was really an epic ,,this film directly connect to your heart and feel the real patriotism and love towards nation,,,and no one can compare the acting level of SRK,,,

Water drinking scene was 10000x > Bijli Scene. Equal credit to ARR for lifting that scene.

This is the biggest problem with Indian audience, atleast regarding SRK, whenever he does a great movie where he is trying to experiment with roles and trying to break barriers people just don't support those movies, but then, when he makes those dumb commercial movies everyone bashes him for doing so. People don't want him either way. He, as an actor has great potential, just being wasted because of inappropriate audience.

When i first watched swades in my college days in 2015 2016 i watched it 24 times for a month regularly. I just loved this movie..epic...brought me to tears

Shahrukh has more layers of acting. He needs better directors and good scripts. Perhaps at the age of rishi and amitabh he'll expose the actor in himself and not the hero.

People don't realize that SRK is one of the best actors we have ever had...there are actors who get away with mediocre acting. Whenever Srk is in the frame and no matter with whom or what the story is.. people always remember the character he plays

Just rewatched the film yesterday and man, it is such an authentic piece of cinematic work. From the heartfelt music to the genuine acting from all the actors, it nails every part of the film. I'm disappointed that a film like this failed at the box office but I'm happy that the people who have watched it has a special place in their heart. Thank you to the Swades team for creating such a beautiful film, it will go down as one of the best films IMO.

Still my favorite movie ..whenever it telecast I forgot whatever things I had to do .I just leave all things to watch the classic .I feels like connection to character .just awsm

This is one of my favorite movie... Classical performance of SRK and inspiring story lineup with fantastic Music by AR... Because of high expectations of melodramatic cliches from SRK made this filim fail miserably in box-office. Sure...this movie one of the best Bollywood movie has ever made. 😍

Big fan of this movie. I’ve watched it countless number of times and every time I watch it rakes a new emotion in me. I even went to the extent of visiting the shooting locations and must say the locations were simply divine. We as a nation will not ever get to watch another cinematic masterpiece like Swades. I have no words for the music and the background scores. Please make more movies like this.

If there was ever a Bollywood movie that depicted what true patriotism is, it is this movie. A timeless classic!

Best movie and a complete movie no nonsense overacting, no heavy dialogue In this movie we can easily Co relate with Mohan as we all have such Mohan in us the difference is we need to awake him And the Shah Rukh acting is amazing where he leave his stardom a side and be the Mohan bharghav

The best scene in the history of Bollywood

Swades, Lagaan , Shawshank Redemption, The Dark Knight , Sholay, Golmal (old) Hera pheri, Tum Bin, Saudagar,Shool, Gangajal , DDLJ,Border these are few of the classic movies DVD collections that I have at home. Swades is a cult classic ! It can just be experienced cant be quantified.

One of the best movie I ever seen of Bollywood and Hollywood.

The only reason is that india ke log chutiye hai, jinko koi nahi sudhar sakta , i was amazed when i heard that swades is a flop movie, it has been one of my fav movie , i have watched it many times
