Yes it was 74 and David Bowie was my jam!!!

I just heard it on the radio, and went, "hmmm." What did they do to David's song. Sort of in between on it. As long as David gets credit. I think he'd be fine with it. They say it's the highest form of flattery...or...they stole it. Depends on who you're talking to. I don't hate it, but there was only one David Bowie!! And I'll choose him every time.

When Chris Young’s song dropped i immediately went to David Bowie within the first chords!

The purpose of re-doing a song is to re-introduce it to a new set of fans when the original song becomes something that’s not played on the radio enough anymore….the song is 50 years old now and it’s doing just that. Instead of having a heart attack over the fact that this was made, be happy people are looking up the original song and playing it again.

That would be true if he was covering the song. This is not covering it. It's plagiarizing the melody and rewriting the lyrics.

So basically, if you can't write a song, just buy the rights of someone else's music from their lable, and give the original songwriter credit but no money. The music business sucks now.

I was explaining what an interpolation is to my mom a couple weeks ago. With Cole Swindell's "She Had Me at Heads Carolina" going to #1 for 4 weeks and then having Jo Dee Messina on a remix last year, I think it's really cool to reimagine classic songs to a whole new generation of fans. Kid Rock did it with "Werewolves of London" and "Sweet Home Alabama"... too bad David wasn't alive to hear this; I'm sure he would've really appreciated Chris' interpolation of "Rebel Rebel".

Im not a country fan, i came here from seeing people flame chris online. I do make sample based music myself though, the song is not my cup of tea but it is not a rip off or blatant rehash. There's enough of an issue with artists changing a word or two...but wtf?!?! I heard this at work a few months ago. Thought it was the David Bowie/Rebel Rebel, then the lyrics kicked in...holy hell what a crying shame. I hate it. This interview they credit Bowie for a writer...well DUUUUHHHH!!!! Fine, the Bowie estate sold the catalog, and some SCHMUCK of a record company exec decides to pitch to what I once thought was a good artist a song with completely different lyrics. Sorry Chris Young, can't support the decision to do this to such an iconic song. Read an article that also stated said SCHMUCK stated that doing it this way would bring a different style of music to young country fans...what?!?!?! The words, and albeit the tempo changed. So a young country fan hears the original, and thinks it's a copy of the hot trash this song is. Is the SCHMUCK the same guy that invented auto- tune? Has to at least be a relative, this is trash. There's another song out there done the exact same way, all the words have been changed, using the original music, it's an awful thing happening. fml
