David Bowie - Rebel Rebel • TopPop
Музыка
Today, January 10, 2021, we celebrate David Bowie's birthday. The pop legend who died on January 10, 2016, would have turned 74 today. That's why we honour him on our home page with his most famous Toppop recording made back in March 1974.
David Robert Jones OAL (8 January 1947 - 10 January 2016), known professionally as David Bowie, was an English singer-songwriter and actor. A leading figure in the music industry, Bowie is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He was acclaimed by critics and musicians, particularly for his innovative work during the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft had a significant impact on popular music.
During his lifetime, his record sales, estimated at over 100 million records worldwide, made him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In the UK, he was awarded ten platinum, eleven gold and eight silver album certifications, and released 11 number-one albums. In the US, he received five platinum and nine gold certifications. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. Rolling Stone named him among the greatest artists in history and - after his death - the "greatest rock star ever".
This is the famous video of David Bowie recorded in the TopPop studios in Hilversum the Netherlands, under the direction of Rien van Wijk.
It was broadcast on 4 March 1974. Davis selected this video himself for the DVD 'Best of Bowie' (2004) as he really liked this recording. It was a big hit in the UK (#5) and the Netherlands (#8).
On the same day David did a press conference in the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam where he received an Edison award for 'Hunky Dory'

Mick Ronson (his lead guitarist) his wife was Bowie’s hairdresser.
Fun fact: The eye patch was from a pirate custom that one of the people working on the program had used a few days prior, Bowie used it to cover an inflammation of his eye, the guitar was just a random guitar that was laying around and just happened to be red and matched perfectly with Bowie's outfit. It's all just a entire coincidence that it all matches. This was told by Ad Visser the host, about 2 weeks ago on Dutch television.

The eye patch means you can't really see what is going on, it is occult and used by quite a few (Fake Brian Ferry) It was all an act, which is what he told a DJ that worked in Stringfellows that told me. As to playing “with” the guitar rather than actually playing it is genius. He knows we are going to know it’s a lip sync. The smaller picture of him in the right corner is supposed to represent the correct way to sing the song. He sang this in a studio because the correct lyrics of, “you want to be dead when they count up the dues” was on the album’s liner notes. Follows the line about the handful of ludes, short for Qualudes which were taken off the market. However, today on the web they report the lyric as being “ you wanna be there when they count up the dudes.”

Song define's a moment of modern struggle somewhere along the boulevard of broken dreams. I feel alive and inspired hearing these songs but can only imagine the feeling of the muse to create these masterpieces...

David Bowie was way ahead of his time !!
This is his character Halloween Jack . I am forever a David Bowie fan🤘🏿❤️
I was a teenager when Bowie became famous. I remember being at the local YMCA disco and when the "Jean Genie" played everyone was on the floor dancing their hearts out to it! (Me included)
One of my very Very favourite songs to sing as Lead Vocals of our Band, The Indifference in the 80's. Cousin David always produced great songs
The song of my generation!!!!

David Bowie the best singer ever!!!!!!!
This is one of my favorite Bowie songs.
Best pop song, eat your hearts Beatles
Bowie was naturally different . He in no way tried to be different to be cool . He was one of the most creative song writers , composers , recruiter of talent to play and work with in composing and arranging music for recordings and for his live bands , open to all kinds of musical influences : bowie in sum total : one of the all around greatest artists in rock history . He also supported unknown talented rock bands and musicians , which gave them a lift up the ladder to success .
I love you so much David bowie R.I.P.
love it... 2016: what a bad year the death of bowie, prince and so many other great icons... miss you Bowie xxx

G Collingwood I hate to burst your bubble, but I think one of the reasons it was on there is because she actually had an affair with Bowie when she was only 17 - idk if that's the ACTUAL reason or not, but...

carlotta robbins yeah that ended up being false. People like to make up rumours about the weirdest things, especially with David Bowie.

I cried to this song when he passed and i still get teary eyed every time i listen to it. Hands down the best song Bowie ever wrote!!!
This is my favorite David Bowie period when he was young and more hip. I don't mean hip hop I mean more on point with the game with his lyrics
Lord have mercy.... I love DAVID BOWIE...
I love the way David is just going through the motions and he’s still fascinating to watch. 💕
I love how he looks when he says divine❤️
Took my daughter to see absolute bowie, when she said her favourite was rebel rebel it broke my heart I'd never take her to see the one and only who I was lucky enough to see 5 times ⚡️
2024 He is still awesome n forever...😍
Love rebel rebel.... R.I.P. Ziggy

It’s funny how he makes it seem as if he has never touched a guitar before in his life and yet he actually could play guitar.
HARD TO IMAGINE THAT THERE WILL EVER BE ANY ROCKER THAT WILL EVER BRING THE FIERCE ARTISTIC WOW THAT HE EMBODIED.

I love this song so much! David Bowie is the Man,the Myth, A True Legend! May he RIP and he is forever missed
One of his greatest tracks and one of his most memorable performances. Electrifying is the word to describe the song. Love his Ziggy meets pirate look there. His good-natured mocking of the lip-sync adds to the fun.

Timeless Song, Legendary Artist! Need I say more! Sept 2021👍😀❤👍
1974 Bowie, the real Bowie. He admitted to stumbling on that 'riff' i bet he didn't know how important that song would become in history. Long Live David Bowie!!
R.I.P Halloween Jack.
that guitar is just vibing 😳
my fave of all time - first heard his music in 1974-5 and thought hey who sings this its great !! hooked ever since - sang Rebel Rebel with my besty many many times she recently died of Covid both of us Bowie fans for 45+ years RIP David and thanks for the music you gave us and made my youth a happy time - your music is very emotional and will live forever
My favourite David Bowie song. The lyrics sound like something the Rolling Stones would write.
