It is key to defeating them or deescalation. With closed doors , well as he says enjoy "the fire " As west speaks of diplomacy but cant listen to both sides. This One China argument is identical to Putin's rantings about "historical Russia'. Taiwan is separated from China by 100 miles of ocean: more than separates quite a few countries. It has a population of 23 million: a lot more than many other countries. It has been self determining for over 70 years. What it might have been before then is totally irrelevant. Taiwan IS now an INDEPENDENT country. Emperor Xi's argument is as valid as Adolf Hitler's were with regard to the Sudetenland and the Anschluss. His "military exercises" bear an uncanny resemblance to what happened prior to the invasion of Ukraine.

The priority of the protection for Taiwan is to help Ukraine beat Russia in the battlefield as soon as possible. Putin is winning time for Xi to be prepared for conquering Taiwan by "peace" in cooperation with pro-CCP organisation and individuals within the island or by force with military. Thus, there is no time for the West to drain Russia's military and economy, which will gives more time for Xi to ready for his invasion. Ukraine's victory must come before the presidential election of Taiwan, since it will raise Taiwanese' courage against CCP and restrain Xi's ambition for the islands.

As usual Victor Gao has it all wrong. CCP controlled China has zero legal sovereignty of Taiwan. Lets lay down the facts. 1: October 1, 1949, at 3:00 pm in Tienanmen Square the formation of the Central People's Government under the leadership of the CPC, the government of the new state, was officially proclaimed. Mao declared victory to the people stating “The poor peasants have conquered the country; the poor peasants should now sit on the country.” The CPC won the civil war and the PRC was formed and the ROC escaped to the still official Japanese island of Formosa in 1949 The war is over. FACT 2: The Cairo Declaration 1943 discussed the possibility of handing the island of Taiwan to the ROC. This discussion required a treaty to become official and was never implemented. FACT 3: The Treaty of San Francisco: When Japan relinquished its sovereignty of Taiwan with The Treaty of San Francisco after the ROC invaded the Japanese island, China was not even invited. The treaty was signed by 49 nations but both the ROC and CCP were NOT present. FACT 4: : The Taipei Peace Treaty: Due to objections by The Soviet Union The Taipei Peace Treaty 1952 was created. FACT Article 10 of the Taipei Peace Treaty stipulates that “nationals of the Republic of China shall be deemed to include all the inhabitants and former inhabitants of Taiwan (Formosa) and Penghu (the Pescadores).” Therefore the Taipei Peace Treaty transferred Japans sovereignty of Taiwan to ALL the inhabitants living of the island NOT to mainland China. FACT The inhabitants in 1952 were the ROC escapees, Taiwanese Aborigines, Japanese descendants, Dutch descendants, Portuguese descendants, previous Chinese descendants. THE ISLAND WAS NOT HANDED TO MAINLAND CHINA. FACT 5: One China Policy 1979: Does not state that Taiwan is part of China. FACT To quote directly from this US/CCP agreement: To quote directly from this US/CCP 1979 agreement: :"The Government of the United States of America acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China." This does not declare that the US agrees with China's position it simply acknowledges or recognizes their point of view. E.g I can acknowledge that my friend is a Republican even though my political stance may be Democrat it does not state that Taiwan is part of China. 6: Taiwan Relations Act 1979 (release at the same time as One China Policy): The TWA factually proves that the US is not meddling in Taiwan's affair it is merely fulfilling its obligations as per the agreement. FACT To quote from TWA: "Declares it to be the policy of the United States to preserve and promote extensive, close, and friendly commercial, cultural, and other relations between the people of the United States and the people on Taiwan, ".... "Authorizes the President or any department and agency to conduct and carry out programs, transactions, and other relations with respect to the people on Taiwan." Therefore the Pelosi visit or any official governmental visit is legitimate and of no concern to the CCP. FACT TWA also declares: "that the United States shall provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character and shall maintain the capacity of the United States to resist any resort to force or other forms of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or social or economic system, of the people of Taiwan." Therefore again the US is NOT meddling into Taiwan/China affairs it is again fulfilling its obligatory agreement irrespective of the CCP's propagandist responses. FACT 7: “UN Resolution No. 2758 ruled in 1971, that the PRC had obtained the representation rights and all legal rights originally owned by the ROC in the UN”. It is true that UN recognition was handed to the CPC as they were the ruling government of China not the ROC . The officially written UN resolution does not state that Taiwan is part of China. FACT Therefore as clearly demonstrated above, Taiwan is not part of China. The only legal way that the CCP can unify with Taiwan is via an official written treaty.

the civil war between the two sides has not finished yet. Taiwan is not a country. It calls itself ROC like legally you said, so it means it still sees itself as China (or part of China it claims). But, there can only be one China in the world, therefore this is an unsettled conflict. ROC and PRC both claim China despite what separatists in Taiwan say. If Taiwan wants to be independent from China, it has to go through legal process, like changing the name of the state and the Constitution, and so on, otherwise its still part of China, the one and only China.

The problem isnt' that Capitalism is bad (it is), the problem is we have nothing better to replace it. Communism, no thanks, fascism, absolutely not. I really think all we can do is wait for AGI and hope the explosion in tech solves our problems.

the civil war between the two sides has not finished yet. Taiwan is not a country. It calls itself ROC like legally, so it means it still sees itself as China (or part of China it claims). But, there can only be one China in the world, therefore this is an unsettled conflict. ROC and PRC both claim China despite what separatists in Taiwan say. If Taiwan wants to be independent from China, it has to go through legal process, like changing the name of the state and the Constitution, and so on, otherwise its still part of China, the one and only China in this world.

If china would stop with the wolf warrior stuff. it could create a better line in the sand when it said certain statements. It's foolish because I take them serious as wanting Taiwan badly even if it didn't have those chips. Instead it's always barking and looks bad.

Did Taiwan belong to China before WW2? Well, it’s not up for debate then, the only thing that is up for debate is which government is the legitimate government over China as a whole. Communist currently in China or Capitalists currently in Taiwan?

I'm not surprised to hear this. It's true that according to international law Taiwan is not a separate country. When Putin redraws the borders we go "that's not according to the internationally established rules based order", when Taiwan redraws the borders it's no longer the international rules based order we talk about, but democracy. In all honesty, this is hypocritical.

it sure is....it is hypocritical from the Chinese to talk about international law when they took little islands in the middle of international waters (and are disputed) for their own despite the international court of maritime affairs having ruled against them. They just ignored it. It is only fair to ignore what the Chinese think what international law is saying regarding Taiwan.

Whether Taiwan is considered a country or not does NOT automatically hand sovereignty to CCP controlled China. There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China.

Taiwan and China aren't separate nations. They are the result of a ceasefire from the end of the chinese civil war in 1949. The communists took over most of China, while the anti-communists fled to and barricaded themselves in the island of Taiwan. Neither side declared independence from the other, they simply both claimed legitimacy over which one was the real China. The USA helped China against Taiwan by giving the former the latter's permanent seat at the UN security council. The USA officially severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan and recognises one China. Taiwan is a rebel fortification which will eventually be taken down.

What is the logic? Because Taiwan is important to many people, we cannot care about history and politics, but insist that Taiwan is not part of China? So many countries are talking nonsense about the so-called One China and that Taiwan is an integral part of China. You are not a double standard, you are just funny, let us only laugh at your low logic ability. Having said that, you don't need logic, you only think about your own interests, and you have been doing this since your ancestors.
