He could just say he is disciplined and fit. He is neither Valverde or Vidal. Caicedo is comparable to those guys. Gallagher is a hustling runner that can finish. That’s it. Is he valuable of course but keep perspective.

Hes not even disciplined. Ive seen him get caught napping in his own half multiple times and even recklessly fly into challenges. He has high determination and fitness which is great but outside of that he’s very mediocre. Decent squad player but if you can get 50-60 million for him you take it in a heartbeat…

Nope wrong. It’s basically a 3 man midfield. Caicedo on the middle and Cuccurela and Gallagher on the ends. If you take either of those guys out to plug Enzo then your defense is off balance once again and Enzo will just ask for the ball from Caicedo as he has done in the past and he is nowhere near as effective distributing as Caicedo. Only possible way this works is find a sitter to play between Caicedo and Enzo and hopefully they mesh and Enzo plays with Caicedo instead of simply saying give me the ball. Long story short is Enzo and Caicedo are similar players but Caicedo is better at everything except maybe tricks.

@@andresquintero2436 I think putting James/Lavia as that holding midfielder is perfect. James has the tacking, passing and experience to hold that midfield together and won't have to run as much which will help his fitness and gusto gets to keep the RB spot

Bro was poor since last year, he's amazing going for but he's poor tracking back

The structure more than anything has helped the midfield be stronger and more effective these last 2-3 games. Enzo would be fine in this system and maybe even create more chances from deeper positions. He won’t be asked to be a box to box midfielder like he has been all season with a Sports Hernia (which is stupid on Poch btw)…Gallagher is really good off the ball and recovering the ball but Football is played on the ball which he still lacks. He has improved but not to the level of a starter if we want to go back to the standards of old. I think ppl are forgetting how effective Enzo has been connecting defense to attack and a lot of chances have been missed throughout the yr by attackers when Enzo has supplied them. If we keep both I won’t mind bc it only helps the team but Gallagher won’t start in the 10 if everyone is healthy (Nkunku or Palmer preferred) and He won’t start in the Pivot ahead of Caicedo, Enzo, or Lavia if all are healthy as well🤷🏾‍♂️….ppl will feel some type of way by this but it’s the truth. Poch is the only manager who values running over on the ball quality which is weird…most likely will be sacked at end of season🤷🏾‍♂️

That is Not napa problem in a nutshell. He like Palmer wants to be the man. The organizer. So what does he do ? He receives deep and launches it most of the time. This is fine for a counterattack team. Chelsea is thriving when having possession. I nos is built for a different set up. Enzo is way more skilled than Cuccurela or Gallagher but he doesn’t defend like them

You get it perfectly. Enzo would fit into this system and make it better. I hope Poch gets booted too, he's been a tactical mess for majority of the season. We've had chances to pick points but end up dropping because of poor setup. Two good run of games and us fighting for 6th isn't enough.

@@andresquintero2436 There are alot of Midfielders in world football who are better at one aspect of the game then others, but in general what is most important is what u do on the ball. Enzo to me is still highly rated both by eye test and statistically when it comes to on the ball metrics in midfield. He does lack alil defensively compared to cucú and Gallagher however he is not a liability either…in a functional structure he can be asked to do a job. Look at J5 under Tuchel (UCL year) & Arteta…he has ppl around him to hide his deficiency in running but he’s smart enough and good enough to do just enough to recycle possession when need be and keep the ball for his teams…Enzo will be fine when all healed up

@@c_nyak24yes there are. These MFs require tactical awareness to cover for their weaknesses. Enzo is slow on the ball. His style doesn’t really suit the premier league. Can he adjust ? Yes but he has to adjust. If you simply run him out there like he is now it will make the MF weaker not better. Like I said I Enzo also cancels Caicedo and frankly Caicedo is better than Enzo. Cuccurela and Gallagher both fill a sacrificial role. That role has been requested of Caicedo to allow Enzo to play higher up and frankly the team hasn’t looked good. Enzo could replace Caicedo but why? He is not better at any aspect of the game.

When enzo injured, football beautiful again because Chelsea get results. Enzo is typical La Liga or Serie A Midfield, in EPL midfield who has energy will be priority.

Those guys were not athletic by any means and just had mad vision and made it work and disproves any theory that Enzo and Palmer can't simultaneously work in those areas due to them not being pressing monsters

A better solution would be to use Enzo as a Single Pivot alongside Reece James as an Inverted Full Back. This way Chelsea can have Reece create more chances than Cucurella does and Enzo can play better long range passes that he does at the moment. This will make the midfield stronger in supporting the backline and in progressing the ball. As for Caicedo, he can play besides the CAM (which could be Nkunku or Palmer) with him, the CAM and the wingers forming a line of 4 behind the striker. The ideal lineup would still be 4-2-3-1 with the back four turning into a back 3, the right back playing as an inverted fullback and the second pivot moving higher up the pitch besides the CAM. Also, Caicedo and Gallagher can keep switching between them since their profiles are quite similar and Enzo and Lavia can switch between them.

Why sacrifice Caicedo for Enzo’s sake when Caicedo is the better player? I nos needs to learn tactics and apply them and hustle wayyyyy more , be a sub or ask for a trade

Gallagher is very mobile and gives caicedo and the defence better protection in 4231.Enzo is suitable for 433 formation.

I would put Gallagher at left wing back. He is durable, runs, defends well, has a good serve and pass, and has speed too. He is perfect for this position!

I keep saying that the classic Chelsea set-up works with a player who can be at the back of the midfielders and in front of the defenders. Kante played that role well, Mikel and Malouda were also good.

You have a good point, Gallagher is good as a defensive/central midfielder but not as an attacking midfielder. We have Palmer, Nkunku and Chukwuemeka who are great options for that position.

*No disrespect to your comment but I can summarize in a few words what took you almost 15 minutes to explain. Poch wants Enzo to play a role he's not used and does not have the skills and tactics for. Also let me put in perspective Enzo's form this year is very far from his world cup performance where he was at his peak. His mistakes and poor decision is more noticeable when the team loses. Now, if you still don't understand, let me elaborate a bit more, when Enzo plays for Argentina, he plays almost entirely as DM, next to either Paredes or DePaul, sometimes LoCelso with MacAllister in front of him. In this role Enzo does NOT go from box to box as Poch wants him to do, he does more defensive work, helped by Paredes or DePaul and flanked by their 2 fullbacks. With this system Enzo tends to do better defensively and from time to time you can see him making a run or trying a long shot. Enzo playing for Chelsea wants to attack leaving so much space behind, and creating mayhem when losing the ball. The problem is not Enzo, the problem is Poch for not having him play tactically therefore jeopardizing the whole team. and Poch has done time after time without correcting his mistakes. Gallagher is more disciplined tactically and helps defensively but not forgetting his creating and attacking role. Cucurella is doing what Tagliafico does for Argentina, and that's why Chelsea's midfield looks more solid. Pochetino has waited an entire year trying what he should've tested in a couple of friendlies. Lets bring DeZerbi.* 🦾

Once pouch figure out how to use him effectively he will be a baller. KDB for example can’t defend but he’s great for city. Give the team time to find your identity

Gallagher is also one of the best box to box midfielder in Europe. Cucurilla don't sit in the midfield he only there to cover when ever Gallagher push up, but Gallagher have to also recover fast so that cucu don't get cut out. Enzo won't be able to recover as fast as Gallagher.

How many time will this prove that you don't understand the dynamic of Enzo and Caceido together. Porch didnt understand it too. So it is not your fault if you also don't. They both have something in common strong strong . So Porch must use them Alternatively. There are few games that they can play together if he uses a box midfield. 4 in the midfield.

There are so many solutions to this team. I expect to see back four which transits to back 2 midfield 2 & a front 6. I want to see how Reece James as a cb covering overlapping Gusto & Colwil covering inverting Cucurella. I hope Wesley Fofana gets time to prove himself before he gets sold. Next season Chelsea should be challenging for the premier league title not top 4

I think it would be helpful to also analyze the opposing teams that Chelsea has faced since the so called Cucurella’s new role…the game against West Ham was more of West Ham downing tools rather than Chelsea having a complete performance…it irks me coz Chelsea fans (Todd Boehly included)are easily swayed by these kind of results that don’t necessarily tell the whole story…if Chelsea keeps Pochetino next season they will leave to regret it

But the problem with cucurella in that role is that he has to learn to advance the ball, play more forward passes. That’s the aim, to be able to get the ball off our defenders and get it into attack. But he’s just there for support and safety. I believe there should be more than that

Yes…we will be fine without Gallagher next season. If he stays and everyone and everyone is fit, he doesn’t play in the 10 ahead of Nkunku or Palmer, nor start ahead of Enzo, Lavia or Caicedo in Pivot…he’s improved don’t get me wrong but in this better structure where the midfield is more compact Gallagher running around isn’t as critical as he was when the midfield was wide open. Poch has done a horrible job of actually figuring this out earlier and implementing this during the season…let’s not forget that as well

Enzo is not a bad player, the system just doesn't suit him. He would need to adapt his play style to work.

We can play Enzo, Moises, and Conor in a midfield 3. We need a 4-3-3. Palmer is not as effective in the 10,and he is our best right winger. We can still play the same 3-2-5 system that we play right now with Enzo. We can invert Cucurella, with Reece/Malo (who did it in pre-season) forming the back 3. The front 5 become, Misha- Enzo-Nico- Conor-Palmer.

There are so many potential solutions and variations now that Poch has his template, will it be inverted CUCu or Inverted Gust.... are Carny, Gallagher and Enzo fighting for the same place? Caicedo or Lavia? I think it's about how well players can use their qualities to fulfill a role in the team. So far Gallagher has proven that he can do this.
