Also cancel culture needs to leave room for personal growth. People tried to cancel Kevin Hart for something he said in his early 20s. People need to consider if he seems to still hold those values and whether they themselves want to be held to who they were 15 years ago. Most of us grow, learn, become better, fuller people as we age and are exposed to different ideas and opinions.

I feel like ppl are quick to call out bands and ppl online *because* it seems that other power structures are not listening and can't be changed. Online, you can directly see the impact of your outrage in the form of comments, likes, and reshares, and it's easier to see collective impact on individual ppl and brands. Not to mention that the impact can be swift, where most activism takes a lot of time, planning, and sustained effort. Larger power structures also have an inherent interest in NOT showing when they've been hurt even when collective action works.

Totally agree with everything with the cancellation! That’s why I unsubscribed from Mikayla after “mascara gate” because I couldn’t trust her opinion after that. Also unsubscribed from James Charles and was surprised nothing happened there. 😳 But people KEEP following and buying their stuff, so “cancellations” are laughable at this point. 🤦‍♀️ Also agree with Kevin on putting people together who don’t have a built-in rapport because it’s SO awkward! Anytime I see that dynamic, I don’t want to watch because I can even feel it through the screen. 🥴 And TV can show someone so nice when they’re really a 💩 in person. Funny Kevin mentioned Eureka because I had that experience with her … LOVED personality on screen, in person … not so much. 🙄

Ultimately I think /some/ people have their heart in the right place, because those of us advocating for a ceasefire feel like so little is happening on the government side. I agree, until there is full confirmation about misdeeds, we potentially waste energy that could be taken from the actual bad actors and institutions truly doing harm. Sure if rumors are going around it might give me pause on continuing to buying products or supporting an individual until we know either way. The attitude goes into voting, and the people who refuse to vote while terrible anti-lgbtq+, womens health/abortion, etc laws are coming down the pike in more conservative areas and right wing evangelical groups flourish. It's so concerning. Please vote. Vote for national races AND local. It matters. The US has influence on a massive scale in how they support or hold their allies accountable. On a lighter note: Been in and out of Ultas a lot more lately trying new products. Every time I see Charlotte's products at the checkout display, Johnny and Kevin are hovering behind me waiting to slap my wrist if I even think of buying anything. 😂😂

I swear listening to the first segment regarding the “rumor”..it just makes me realize how cancel culture really has to stop. Social media in general as much as I love having it, and it’s helped so many people & done a lot of good, it’s changed how humans interact and treat eachother in general on a gigantic scale. Especially since Covid when so many got addicted to it. People have had to develop such a thick skin in order to survive the hate that’s so easily thrown at them day to day. People are so quick to say negative hateful & derogatory 💩 that they would never say to your face..and others tend to jump on board and pile on…it’s desensitizing the human race 😣

I appreciate that you two are willing to get heavy and get serious on this podcast, and not just wave it off with 'we're not going to get into politics'. It makes it feel like you aren't just trying to entertain us but engage with us. In that spirit, I've heard it many times that people will react much more strongly to an- ultimately less important in the grand scheme of things- celebrity or brand they feel has committed a wrong because the parasocial relationship makes it a personal betrayal, instead of just someone in power being shitty. I think thats definitely a huge part of why people are so quick to get so worked up and call for cancellations and boycotts for beauty industry figures, no matter how ineffective it may be. Recently, however, I think there's also a big element of feeling Powerless in the face of the horrors we're witnessing in real time. Collectively we're screaming our voices hoarse about the atrocities and injustice, desperate for something to be done, for someone to Listen, desperate to the point of despair and self destruction, and no one in power seems to hear us. In that powerlessness, many are likely turning to lash out at what they see as an easier and more accessible target because it feels like doing something, *anything*. Brands with #relatable media presences, celebrities, public figures, etc. We can't pretend the president that is dropping expired MREs with faulty parachutes while also writing a blank check for ethnic cleansing is gonna see our angry comments, but maybe, just maybe, Charlotte Tillbury will. She's not, its just going through some underpaid intern, but it feels like it could possibly have a tangible effect as opposed to the blank wall that's our government right now. None of this is to say you guys aren't right, you guys absolutely hit it spot on with the ineffectiveness of these cancel campaigns, like with your James Charles analogy. Along with that we should absolutely wait for confirmation with things like this- I've seen plenty of hate campaigns over misinterpretation, over blowing, gun jumping, and even just imagined from whole cloth transgressions. It's just something I think about a lot right now how badly we all want action and results to the point of redirecting it ineffectually. It's like a pressure cooker with no safety valve, the stress has to give somewhere. To get back to the lighter tone, purchase and pass is just such a wonderful resource. Like is Haus just using the "limited release" to test what were the more popular colors at the cost of range and accessibility for darker skin, and then trying to scalp us after demand was proven? To hell with this, colourpop supershock blush is right there and I'm too broke for shenanigans.

The Acai Sky blush is my GO TO blush (❤), and I'm so annoyed it wasn't brought back to make the Haus Labs line more inclusive. I bought the Dragonfruit blush, but it gave me a slightly ashy hue and was almost non-existent on my melinated skin. When I went to try the Lavender Blonde blush (which I was hoping would be a good pink option for those of us with deeper tones), all the displays had been taken down and every Sephora I went to, but no one knew why. It wasn't until a few weeks later that it was announced the line was being discontinued. Such a bummer that I never got the chance to try that shade!!! 😩

Last week I was on a Chicago expressway and a Security Detail with flashing lights including 2 Cadillac Escalade SUVs with dark tinted windows blew past everyone driving on the shoulder of the expressway. At the time I thought it was a former President who was in town for an event regarding his Presidental Library but now I suspect it was really Johnny on his way to the airport to fly home from Chicago ❤😉❤️

Also, I worked at American Apparel from 2008-2014 and was legitimately priced high to employ garment workers at a livable wage. I sometimes struggled financially living and working for them in DC, but had pride that the company I worked for cared about the entire process of production being sustainable for every person involved. Aside from the fact that Dov had his issues of course. Different conversation.

Love you guys to the moon and back and I feel like you always hit the nail on the head with undertones and color theory, but I had to pause at the Supergoop SPF 50 foundation shade range part just to say: the lightest shades in color ranges *not* running so pink anymore is a huge win for us pale people out here. Those gray/neutral shades are so much more flattering and accurate than the old strawberry vanilla ice cream nonsense the industry used to feed us. Fair does not equate to pink! Those gray undertones seem like they’d serve casket ready, but I think they lend themselves to suiting unsaturated, fair skin tones much more.

Most excited for the Ilia complexion stick! I use their serum skin tint & love it! Also, I use their concealer & mascara. I'm very light with a neutral undertone and most foundations leave me looking either ghostly or oxidize immediately to pull yellow. Ilia's shade range is awesome & I found my match! ❤

It’s been a while since I’ve watched but I don’t remember JVN ever doing any hair for POC with textured hair. I think it’s interesting for someone of their magnitude (I’m assuming here) to not educate themselves on textured hair to be competent to work on all the different hair types. As a palm colored person this always stood out to me
