Why Charlie Parr's guitar broke him.
Музыка
They say the tone's in the hands, which is true, but when you put this Mule guitar in Charlie Parr's hands, some serious magic happens. Unfortunately this Mule his been bucking him as of late, and Charlie asked if I had any ideas.

Thanks for keeping’ them Mules tuned up for Charlie, Kyle! I’m not sure if Graphtech is considered plastic but that’s what we use for nuts and also saddles on the mulecasters.

Oh nice! Is that the same material as TUSQ uses? Thanks for setting the story straight! Can’t wait to see Charlie’s new woodbody mule.

@@kostringworks Grpahtech is the company, Tusq is it's proprietary name for the material. So these are black TUSQ. nuts.

You rock too! Thanks for watching, and yeah listening to Charlie talk about nothing is even something. Stay tuned for more!
I just received my Mule Resophonic Resonator, similar to what Charlie has. I just haven't had it long enough to make any adjustments. Mule is also how I came across Charlie and started digging into his music catalog. Thanks for the video. Now I'm looking to find a local luthier to change the nut out for ebony 😉

Dude awesome, I love these guitars. Hope to get one myself someday! I’d even take one with a plastic nut, they sound so good! Cool to know how people are finding Charlie, and these vids. Hope you continue finding value in the rest of what’s going on ‘round here!
Live Charlie! Great video 🤘Was the stock mule nut plastic?? Also he mentioned it had a narrow neck, aren't they at least 1 3/4? Just curious.

So this is the only Mule I've worked on, so I can't say for sure, but Charlie def didn't put the plastic nut on and he's the only owner. Also, I totally forgot to write down the measurement, but I did measure it when he was here and it came in under 1 3/4. I don't wanna throw out any numbers without being confident though. Most folks I know that play Mules don't have the problems Charlie was having, so I'd love to get my hands on a few more someday to put the puzzle together. Really, really amazing guitar though. Just needed some set-up love.

He uses thomastiks, flatwounds. But yeah, they do look like bass strings!

@@kostringworks interesting, did he say why? Interested in knowing, might want to try some on my Mule.

@@daltonmaplesmusic you know I’m not sure when or why he started using flats, but he’s been doing so for years now. They sound amazing. He actually puts them on all his guitars, except his 12’s which I think he uses silk & steels on.

Seeing this/responding a little late, but in an interview elsewhere, Charlie mentions that part of why he uses flatwound strings is that it gets rid of the scratchy string noise when he's using a slide. Probably more reasons than just that, but that's at least one of them!

@@kostringworks any Idea on size? After a look I'm seeing .12/.50 's . I have one of his old Steel NRPs.
