I always assumed that there was a cover up by the SHIELD. And everyone was led to believe that the nuclear bomb was meant for the portal in the first place. And wasn't it a shadow council that made the call, not any particular elected government? This would mean that even the president of U.S wouldn't be aware that the nuke was meant for the city.

The governments are the ones who need to be put in check, not the Avengers.

Captain America is a superhuman; he can run at 50mph, ages slower the rate of a normal person, eidetic memory, superhuman strength and has he investigatory abilities beating out his contemporaries. He was right about Shield, the Accords and the WSC whom wanted to nuke NYC I add; as well as help deactivate/destroy Stark's murder-bots -- against which he was thoroughly opposed. Cap reacts to and attempts to amend the mistakes made by the people around him. His mistake is trusting people not to fuck up.

The fact that he has a super power is overshadowed by the fact that he's naturally the smartest man on the planet and can come up with an invention/plan to solve any problem. The only Marvel character that is _written_ anywhere near like Batman (totally infallible ordinary human brain) is Mr. Fantastic.

  • @MrMitchellb10

It is true that he has unshakable morals, but that doesn't mean that he always does the right thing, and in fact, his unshakable morals might cause him to do the wrong things because he is unwilling to change his point of view. I mean, think about it: he was the cause of the civil war, because he wasn't willing to be put in check, and decided that Bucky didn't deserve punishment, because he is his friend, and because Bucky didn't have control of his actions. But that isn't his decision to make! But because he has his "unbreakable morals" he doesn't care. He, as an individual, does not have the right to decide who/ how the government punishes people, especially terrorists/ assassins! But because he believes 'his' way is right, he fights the American government, and his own team, specifically, because he doesn't want his friend to get hurt! He even ropes people in to fight for him, not because they think he is right, but because they think that because he is "Captain America" therefore he can't have bad intentions and therefore can't be wrong. And because He cares more about Bucky than justice he does everything to keep him from that justice, he even kept the fact that Bucky killed Tony's parents from Tony! There is no reason for him to do that, except to protect Bucky. And even Bucky in the movie isn't sure that he deserves redemption, but Cap always puts Bucky first, even if that would mean losing! example: The winter soldier, instead of making sure that hydra is completely taken care of, Cap ends it with a fist fight between himself and Bucky, putting the possible outcome of the entire nation on whether or not Bucky (who is brainwashed!) chooses to be good. And think about it! If the other situations (with Black Widow, Nick Fury, and Falcon) didn't work out, and Captain America was needed to stop hydra, he wouldn't have. Because he cared more about Bucky than he did America! Because he chose trying to help Bucky over saving the country! CAPTAIN AMERICA IS A FRAUD!!! . . . He should be called Captain Bucky.......

Then didn't Cap order the police to make a perimeter to contain the disaster Zone and protect civilians. plus isn't he considered an enhanced human. like all those scenes where he's stopping a helicopter, beating the crap out of highly trained Shield agents, then running as fast as a car, then probably super stamina(on your left), and throwing his motorcycle.

Leaving aside that the Avengers didn't cause New York, Shield did. They didn't open the portal there and could not move it. They "did" close it. Also they leave out the fact that Cap's leadership prevented Hydra weapon from changing the course of WW2! If he doesn't beat Hydra then the Nazi's win. He outmaneuvered Red Skull and beat him in mere months. His leadership allowed the Avenger to shut modern Hydra down world wide in under a year. Also Cap "did" study modern military tactics. +David Parker-Hunt Just to be clear Lennox wrote "mutate", not "mutant". According to Marvel comics the difference is that a mutant is either born with powers or born genetically destined to manifest powers (e.g., X-Men). A mutate is any character that is mutated through external/environmental influences to have powers (e.g., Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, most versions of the Hulk, etc.). Cap could be considered a mutate if you say that the serum gave him powers, and similarly Widow in the comics was given some kind of serum to slow her aging. Widow in the movies could be argued as one depending on what exactly they did to her in that "Red Room".

He went there to be able to use the Tesseract to bring the Chitauri to earth through a portal that would sustain itself indefinitely. And to flip off earth, the avengers, and tony. The tower was basically running on a super awesome battery that Loki wanted to use, so he went where the battery was. Are you trying to to say that Tony Stark (before knowing about aliens) should have predicted someone misusing it (from space) and therefore not put the first example of a building using clean sustainable energy in Antartica? Because paranoia? Every single notion you have is based on hindsight. That’s like saying, “how dare the US/NYC build the World Trade Center in the middle of an economic and cultural hub! They should have known better and put it in Antartica and therefore terrorists wouldn’t have attacked them!” Talk about victim blaming.

stakk4 additionally, the arc reactor technology used in the tower was a prototype that he plan to put in every one of his facilities in the future. If the film took place in a few years it would have actually had multiple places Loki could have done so.... But he still would’ve picked a densely populated area in order to cause the most damage. That’s how terrorist work. That’s how conquers work. Read history history book. Also, read ANYTHING about Loki and you’ll figure out he loves chaos and destruction. Obviously. Being the Norse god of it and so on.

He is admittedly the least effective in terms of what you can bring to the battlefield in terms of power. However, he is pretty much the reason our avengers exist today (twice) Captain America 1&2 so that actually makes him one of the most effective avengers on the team. Captain America: The Winter Soldier really solidified that image and what he's capable of despite his lack in superpower effectiveness.

There's a very narrow set of heroes to look at in MCU and if you were to create a video game stat sheet, Capt America's would be just more well-rounded in physical stats, but not insanely high. Black Panther has similar super strength, speed, and such, as does Bucky with just a metal arm. Peter Parker, etc., and Black Widow is just as an effective fighter (if not better in strategy). You see how I mean? Capt's abilities are less impactful compared to the 15 heroes we have in the MCU. Vs DC where TONS of heroes have no super powers, and Batman's ability sheet would include technology, reasoning, and strategy. It's not anything against Capt, just that the directors'/movie writers' choices limited what he should really compared to the comics. They'd have to have made him have Superman level strength to make that feature truly stand out.

While Cap's official lift strength according to Marvel caps out at 1,200 pounds, which is not even a ton. Naturally, this is comic books, so neither of these is consistant and they both often get higher than that (Especially in films). But Bane's enhanced strength is on a different scale than Cap's.

The strategies and tactics that seem obvious when the never before seen crisis is over and adrenaline has stopped pumping aren't in the moments when you have to choose or die. It's like what the movie of Sully is showing how a pilot made a call that saved the life of everyone in his crew but a bunch of people want to second guess that even though it worked. Hell no one's mentioning the absolute insanity of trusting the Nations of the World over the Avengers. IN the Marvel Universe the Avengers ended an alien invasion and saved a lot of lives. Those Nations of the World that think they should tell the Avengers what and how to do their jobs tried to Nuke New York City without any communication with their troops on the ground. For all they knew the nuke would have done nothing but kill everyone. and leave the shielded portal maker still fucking open letting more aliens pour into New York in the after math condemning our world. Now who has shite tactics?

ehh, i see some points, though a lot seem off base 1st, Cap was raised and trained in the 40's, with that shield by his side. It doesn't excuse him to not adapt, but it seems humanly forgivable for him not wanting to change after the shock of losing his ENTIRE world, because his tech-less way may be all that's left of it. 2nd, Loki just sort of showed up in New York with an entire army, righ?.)You can't just herd something like that out of the city. The avengers did the best they could. 3rd, An interview with the Russo brothers confirmed that Cap might wants to give up being cap. That's because he doesn't feel like he's representing the American way anymore, or at least doesn't feel like aligning with any government as the ones the works for now repeatedly breaks his trust. So up to now, donning the red white n' blue was just to show his love for the country and government, which he doesn't feel as strong anymore. If going against the majority to do what's right isn't what we feel America stands for, then I don't know what does.

First off the very idea that Cap is somehow against technology is ridiculous. Cap uses plenty of technology. He used the shield because he didn't want to use weapons that could be more easily lethal, like guns. Cap can do far more with that shield than most of the people he comes across can do with their higher tech stuff. Steve Rogers and his shield took down a fighter jet. Steve Rogers and his shield took out half a hijacked ship, Steve and his shield managed to finally disable Tony's Iron Man suit's arc reactor so he couldn't murder Bucky Barnes. But as for other technology, he uses it all the time in ever film. Heck even in Avengers when he'd been only been out of the for a little over WEEK(yes he really got defrosted and basically thrown into a battle with aliens 70 years in the future) he was already using the tablet to read information about the situation. He uses all sorts of little gadgets, like the listening devise in Winter Soldier for example, like the various communications devices.

When Daredevil was created, Miller was basically doing what was being done with Batman at the time (Bronze age), but better. Miller basically got hired on to just do a better version of what was already being done, because he did basically just that with Daredevil. In response to Daredevil directly, DC established Nightwing, having Robin basically give up all the tech and turn to escrima sticks.

The whole argument is dumb because of how many basic facts they get wrong. How exactly was Captain America supposed to "lure Loki out" when the entire reason Loki set up the portal in New York was to take advantage of the Arc Reactor Tony built into Stark Tower? They're accusing Cap of bad tactics but ignoring that Cap was reacting to Loki's actions and didn't have the options they are accusing him of not taking. Cap's tactics were entirely appropriate for the situation: Contain the damage to the smallest area they could control, evacuate civilians, and maximize the effectiveness of his arsenal of tools. Also, Nomad's costume was blue and yellow. Captain America dressed in the black outfit as The Captain when the US government claimed to have own the rights to the Captain America identity and tried to use that claim to bring Cap under government control.

Also, it was a pretty darn good plan considering Cap had only been thawed out, what, two weeks MCU time when Loki happened? He was still getting around the idea of it not being the 1940s anymore, and yet he didn't flip out at Tony's suit (he was friends with Howard, after all) and helped fix the helicarrier (all jokes about "some form of electricity" aside) and didn't have much problem figuring out the most efficient ways to shield-bash tech-wielding aliens from another dimension. With his useless vibranium Frisbee that defies physics. Despite still having trouble with that whole not-the-1940s-since-two-weeks-ago thing. And by the time Winter Soldier rolled around, he's using touchscreen tablets, smartphones, HUDs, and sophisticated aircraft just fine. It's not that Cap isn't a tech guy. He's smart and adaptable and learns the tech just fine. It's that he's reluctant allies with Tony Stark, who has an existential crisis every time someone brings attention to the fact that, genius or not, he can't stop bad things from happening and tries to do it anyway. Which inevitably makes all the things worse. Cap's MCU job has become avoiding shady government oversight (SHIELD/HYDRA is only the tip of the iceberg there), cleaning up Tony Stark's messes, and trying desperately to hold onto the few people he can still call friends -- Bucky Barnes, Peggy Carter, Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanov, Wanda Maximoff, etc. -- because everything he had before is gone forever. Thus far, even through Civil War (because we all watched the codas, right?), he's doing a pretty darn good job. Sorry. I gotta defend Cap. He's not my favorite, but he's always stood up for the little guy (including himself). Someone has to stand up for him at least once.

Now if I remember correctly, it was Loki's decision to attack New York, not any member of the Avengers. From the viewpoint of somebody that was alive before the MCU, no one was calling Iron Man--or Captain America--Marvel's Batman before the Avengers movies. If we took an honest look at Iron Man, we'd probably admit that we liked it so much because it was good to see Robert Downey Junior getting work again.

How exactly did that have anything to do with intention? They didn't build the tower to lure Thanos' forces. The Chi'tauri were coming no matter what. If it hadn't been Tony's tower, it could just as easily have been the city's main grid or something else. The invasion chose the site. The Avengers had nothing to do with the decision.

Admittedly, a lot of the issues the Avengers face isn't exactly their fault. Even if they led the Chitauri out of New York, the portal was still open over Stark Tower, so New York would've actually been in more danger without Avengers protecting it. Additionally, the US military decided to launch a nuke at the city, hoping that everything would sort itself out, so the Avengers did actually save the world. As for Ultron, Tony technically made him because of a vision that Scarlet Witch gave to him at the start of the movie. As for the Sokovia Accords and Civil War, Rogers can't be called a rebel when Tony broke the Accords when it benefited him. To quote HISHE, it should have really been called the Tony Stark Accords.

Give Tony credit where credit is due -- HE saved the day.

That attitude in an actual battle situation, sure, he’d probably get respect for that action, there’s a story here and there of some soldiers that threw themselves on grenades in actual battle situations to save their mates and some lived (for better or worse) to talk about it. But the difference is those were all battle situations... that scene was in a boot camp. Tommy Lee Jones comes off as a crazy old guy for trying to make a point in a situation where none of them should be proving that point because why the hell would you? They’re still at home, the enemy wasn’t right next door or anything! So Cap throwing himself on that grenade... that just kinda comes off as really stupid. Everyone cleared the area reasonably quick and he just dives right on it with a pointless point to prove.

My main problem with Cap in Civial War his focus was on Bucky. And he seem to be his "only" friend. He didn't treat Tony as a friend. Which is kind of sad. Tony is holding it together best as he could and even BEG Cap to sign up of fearing he would lose his friend. What did cap do? blew him off and went to Bucky. I get behind Tony when he start to hate him seeing the real Cap. And even all of that, Tony was willing to fight alongside of Cap after the error that he had made. Then they threw in the killing the parents bit. Again Cap wasn't there, instead protected Bucky in the end, Cap went with Bucky and threw down the shield. Why not hand the shield? and say I'll contact you or even say Sorry? No he dropped the shield and left. wth. Tony isn't in the right Mind and is in the wrong here I get that but to do that to a best friend? That would only take 2 minutes to do. I know Cap later on contacted Tony but still that little bit rubbed me the wrong way. Cap acts like a friend if it suits him or else he would ignore them unless they are seen as a threat. He should know Tony enough to see that he is break down inside yet he did nothing. Why I don't like Cap in the movies.

Well, you might see it as "focus on Bucky".. but that is sort of wrong. Something as big as an attack to the UN is related to him, so of course you start there. If Bucky wasn't it, he could know the reason why it happened. As a detective, that would be your first link! He had to prevent them from killing him, in order to get information. Unknown to them, it also attracted the real threat, allowing to get more information on his objective. Then, Team Stark didn't trust him.. it was written so that Cap and Bucky went to stop Zemo. In the end, you just can't let someone kill someone else simply because! It's dumb. Also, Cap treated Tony as a friend until the end! HE was the reasonable one. 1) There was no resolution to the Zokovia accords because of Zemo and Bucky going mad again.. Things might have been different and he might have signed.. but priorities. 2) Also, Cap didn't kill him or let him kill someone needlessly.. don't your friends prevent you from doing something you might regret later? 3) Not telling him is reasonable, knowing how mad Stark is (Ultron?) and useless, as the parents are dead. 4) Not handing the shield or even saying sorry? Stark was pissed, and he wouldn't have listened anyway. Cap was tired.. and probably a bit mad, but he kept his mouth and emotions shut until later. Also, he probably knows that it's not about making himself look better, but making the situation better.

cap is apolitical. he is only "american" because he was american in the pre-WW2 era, when it was easier to believe the american government WAS good. in an era of more information, and a different global political reality, he falls back on the ideologies of DEMOCRACY and civil liberties for all, that led him to be the patriot he was in his original time. those beliefs are often incongruant with "patriotism" to america, in modern times...because it is too easy to see that the political leaders aer not worthy of his patriotism. he is cap'n america because he fully supports the fundamental ideals of the nation, not the nation itself. that is what makes him a patriot...not the star-spangled outfit. he will always stand-up for those exploited or marginalized people, first and for most. if that leads him into conflict with his government, he still will fight for what is "right" in his eyes. that is the one thing the MCU got most right about the fundamental aspects of any marvel character thus far. Cap wont abide bullies.

Sahil, I tend to agree - He should just change his outfit and name. This was covered in the 1980s, when that is exactly what he did, when he discovered government corruption and ceased to trust SHIELD. All of which happened basically like it did in Winter Soldier, but in the MCU, he kept his outfit. (Because - branding) Context matters. MCU Cap woke up 60 years later, was handed his old gear, by his old "boss" (some form of the American government), and told to keep doing his job. Try empathizing with the drastically different socio-political reality in America in the era when Steve Rodgers was a child/teen. Then he goes and fights some nazis/hydra. Wakes up in 2010, and the lines are not so clear. Do any of you honestly think you would adapt to the last 50 years so easily (as essentially a 22 year-old)? The entire point of Captain America is to show the disconnect between the ideological belief, left over from the eras of WW1, and WW2...that Americans were riding on throughout the cold-war, but which has not been congruent with reality for a long time now. Even so, many Americans refuse to acknowledge that the political landscape is radically different, and that American is not the "best", simply because we were sold that meme in the 40s and 50s, and want to keep believing it. Most Americans have resisted admitting the change in reality, even though they lived through it. Now you expect a man who literally "time-jumped" from 1944 to 2010, to come to grips with modern reality immediately. This is why they only make stupid movies now, because anything with a bit of gradation can not be perceived. It is a perfect metaphor for reality. Stop an alien invasion, that would have destroyed all of humanity (or at the very least millions of people), and get blamed because 42 people died in NY. 42. This is the same mentality of the 80s that led to law suits because I spilled my coffee on my lap...and it is YOUR fault. Humanity does not deserve "heroes". 40 years ago there was no color T.V. and if you wanted to see a movie at all, you had to go to a theater. If you wanted to learn about anything, you had to go to a library, and hope they had a book on what you wanted to know. Our history books lied to us also, but at least we did not have the means to easily find other sources of information. Now you have the sum of all human knowledge accessible from a device in your pocket, and are often being fed a tasty ideology to believe. So what exactly is the modern excuse for blindly following an ideology?

To be fair regarding the bit about finding Bucky; Thor and Hulk were on a totally different planet. Everyone pretty much agreed what solar system Bucky was in. A bit easier to narrow down.

Huh. Normally I'm with these guys but this was... off. Maybe it's just because the MCU is my wheelhouse. Huh. 1- Steve didn't pick the venue of the fight in New York, Loki did. The fight was where the gate was. Steve's plan was to keep the fight centralized to minimize damage outside of the already effed neighborhood. 2- The list was explicitly pop culture stuff that he wrote down when people said; "Hey, check out the thing. He also talked about reading a lot on the Internet to catch up. He shows zero hesitation to learn new tech when he must, but keeps the shield because it works. 3- Did he ever abandon a mission to go after Bucky? Because I don't think he did. 4- Steve's strategy is always pretty spot on in the different situations he ends up in. His campaign against Hydra in WW2 was nearly flawless, his fight strategy in New York did exactly what it was supposed to do, when he realized his team was watching the wrong target he adapted and brought down Crossbones without much fuss save the bomb hit that killed Wakanda. 5- The Winter Soldier and Civil War are pretty much two whole movies of Steve questioning authority. So this vid only really works if you don't know much about Rogers. Is that why other videos are funny? Because I don't get those properties? CURSES!

He keeps tabs on Bucky because Bucky is the only link to his past. The only person still alive from his time and his best friend. So...that's a friggin' stupid question.

It's almost like they didn't watch the first Captain America Movie. He gets off the stage and into battle IN ORDER TO SAVE BUCKY! His whole fucking character and motivation is "save Bucky Barnes".

Lead the army to *where*, exactly? they were in the middle of Manhattan Island, with an *Open Portal*. leading the first wave away would've left the subsequent waves free to run around blowing stuff up elsewhere. Exactly the thing Cap was trying to prevent. Cap's plan was to keep the fighting, and thus the collateral damage, confined to the area already hit in the initial invasion.

Something that a lot of people don't seem to realize is that Cap's greatest power doesn't come from his Super Soldier Serum, it comes from his heart. He leads and inspires his team and everyone around him, I read a comic book setted during the Civil War event where Cap was killed and everyone on both sides of the conflict was heavily effected in their own way. Even the Pro-Registers who were at odds with Cap were stricken with grief, regret, anger and frustration. He's the literal incarnation of everything that America is. America's strength comes from the people, Cap's strength comes from his team and those he loves. America is a land of Freedom, and Justice, Cap defends the freedoms and rights of everyone. America home of the brave, Cap would give up everything to protect the people and his team, and did just that when he died; he gave his life hoping to save all those who followed.

Um, that's the trouble here. At least for those whose only exposure to Cap is the MCU version. The "heart" that's supposed to make him so special is anything but.

@@lizzychrome7630 No, she was a horribly written character. But "being right" isn't the sign of bad writing. In Cap's case, it was earned; in Bella's, it wasn't.

Captain America is also... morally bad. He lied to the person who has been funding him, giving him weapons, etc. About his parents murder. Thats ... fucked
