My personal guess was sort of a combo with what you said and that since he still had amnesia at the time, he essentially temporarily chose to be a Decepticon (unintentionally) and his body sort of responded to the rage hence the red eyes. And then, like in the movie, he remembered who he really was and they went back to blue.

Idk if I’m remembering wrong but in an article talking about inspirations for the Bumblebee movie, The Iron Giant was a big inspiration for it. It has a very similar premise to Bumblebee where a robot comes down to earth and a kid finds them and has to hide them from the government. In one scene of the Iron Giant, the kid is unconscious and he is thought to be dead and the Giant enters a rage mode where is eyes go from the more neutral faded yellow to red and starts attacking the people that hurt his friend, just like in Bumblebee

My theory is evil intention instead of anger, which is why decepticons always have red eyes. Not sure how to explain the dino bots but that is why I think Cybertronians eye color differs between red and blue...mostly

He struggled with anger issues on cybertron if I remember correctly he was brought in line by Optimus but I guess he just needed that part of him to come back on line

It does make sense, especially given the lore of the Decepticons being the true victims, not of war, but of society; therefore, they are full of hatred and desperation to have freedom and getting rid of their oppressors.

I relate this to Book 1 Avatar when they were trying to force Aang into the Avatar State by threatening Katara. Empathy is what stops a lot of bad things from happening. You mess with that, all hell can break loose.

This was my most favorite scene in this movie, mainly because, Bees like "alright, I'm done playing"

I think of it this way, Bee is a robot at the end of the day, there is a chance that he has limiters that help him minimise collateral damage at the cost of being less combat effective than a Decepticon of similar prowess so he has to make up the difference with pure skill and strategy. However if he turns these limiters off he can use that full power unrestrained without emotions or morals guiding his actions. But that's just a game theory

It's worth noting that not all autobots and decepticons strictly have blue and red eyes respectively. For example, in Armada, Optimus Prime has yellow eyes and in most iterations, the combaticon Swindle has purple eyes.

I felt like TF one might cover this a little but more. But for lore wise. Eyes colors in Transformers are based on like Blue is calm and peaceful while red are angry and sinister. So Bumblebee have his eyes changed to red signatures that he is really pissed off and have enough with it. So if I do arrange on how Transformers personalities you can see this in Bay films and other franchises. Blue = Peace Green = Neutral Red = Angry Yellow = Aggressive Purple = Dark Energon.

The literal explanation is: they needed to communicate Bee was in protector mode and was gonna fuck up S7. Lore explanation is convoluted, considering Bumblebee and Beasts are connected-but-not to Bay's films, where the Autobots are the exception - all Cybertronians were made with red eyes. Among the "awakening" Optimus' eyes turned blue and so did any robots who agreed with him. That's another reason why the Dinobots have red eyes - they were made definitely before Optimus got "woke", and probably before Optimus and Megatron were even made. Long story short: red eyes default, blue eyes "mutation".
