Another silly criticism you mention is why Deckard has to look for photos when he already saw "rotating heads" of the replicants ... BUT of course he needs the photos to look for clues as to their whereabouts, their disguise etc right ? REmember they are hiding among throngs of human crowds? You cannot start shooting anyone that bears a resemblance to the rotating heads right ?? The shimmering things in the photo bring Deckard to the snake performance show remember ? FACEPALM ...

Personally I hate the new shot of the dove flying away, the background buildings look like a mix and match patchwork of different building styles which differs very much to the building styles in the rest of the movie, and the lighting color toning is sooooo different from the rooftop scenes ... it really looks like a sore thumb sticking out of the beauty of the rest of the movie ...

The Final Cut is the one to see. This video really doesn't make a good argument and pointlessly complains a lot. The studio's demanded changes/additions back in the theatrical version were so hamfisted, shoehorned, overstating the obvious, and clashing with the rest of the movie. Maybe a little narration could have worked but it was done pretty badly.

The problem with your video is: you barely focus on the content your video-title promises... and even in the beginning its kind of promising a comparison between directors cut and final cut. But there is literally nothing about it. What you say the whole video, is just a critic about the movie itself. This should be expressed more precisely in your video-title, and not saying ''why the FINAL CUT sucks ...'' (and the directors cut dont ?) Sorry, thats not enough for a thumbs-up

I agree with Harrison Ford and the screenwriter with not having the unicorn scene in. What does a scene that confirms the authenticity of deckard’s being serve when the story was building towards the theme that the authenticity of your being shouldn’t matter when your experiences in life are still unique making the boundaries between artificial and natural life meaningless and that both should be respected regardless.

  • @carldalord

Giving evidence that Deckard is a replicant only helps that theme. If he was really a replicant that entire time, that only makes the idea more clear that the replicants and humans really aren’t that different from each other.

Such nit picking are frankly silly, movies are not meant to be scrutinised like scientific journals because the main point of making movies is to convey some meaningful messages and aesthetics, NOT to recreate a logically fool proof event. As long they are not committing glaring loopholes you should just appreciate them for the overall messages and aeasthetics they are trying to convey,, which is the whole point of movies !

+VaughnJogVlog Although its true that some people may not understand the movie without the voice-over .... BUT BUT BUT I would prefer these people to rewatch the movie a few times to understand it rather than have the movie explained to them at the cost of losing a lot of the atmospheric qualities and beauty we can only enjoy without an annoying smart-alecky voice yapping away .. don't you think ? I watched Blade Runner during the early years before it was widely discussed on the internet and I also did not understand what it was about (I was in my early teens then), it did not help that the video tape quality was so terrible you can hardly see or hear anything , everything was washed out ... BUT the visuals still managed to shine through the bad quality transfer and it made my repeat viewings a lot more enjoyable ... I was totally not bothered that I failed to understand it on first viewing, because the joy was to understand it gradually over repeat viewings.. a lot of great movies are like that, they are not trying to appeal to shallow audiences who are there for an easy ride ... auteurs does not stoop low for wide acceptance, thats why they are precious because they do what they want and have faith that some people out there are able to appreciate what they do ... non-populist movies are not easy to come by so why would anyone insist to dumb down the movies for the sake of making it a fast food movie ? (Can't blame Harrison Ford for creating such an annoying voice over though, he's probably forced to talk like that by the movie financiers..)

I could see the case with Luca's Star Wars updates replacing the originals... But Blade Runner: The Final Cut removes a lot of what people liked about the movie in the first place. The text crawl, Ford's narration and the escape from the dystopia gave the film a dreamlike quality that a vague reference to a unicorn in the Final Cut doesn't better. Face it, The Final Cut doesn't Cut it.

Another thing, you say that its not convincing to have Deckard as a replicant hunting another replicant as he's kind of weak ... BUT isn't it obvious that giving Deckard superhuman abilities will make him immediately suspect that he's actually a replicant himself and betray turn against humans due to sympathy for his own kind by tribal instinct ? And you fail to comprehend that the alternative of using human police to hunt replicants is even worst ! The whole point of using replicants to hunt replicants is you don't have to risk human police lives to do the job, as human lives are considered a lot more precious than replicant lives ... And if you are going to use a replicant to hunt other replicants, there is a likelihood of the repliant hunter switching sides due to sympathy for their own kind .. tribal instincts ! Thats why the police came up with the idea of making the replicant hunters think that they are humans so that they will be less likely to betray their human employers due to thinking that they are protecting their own kind by hunting down replicants. (Thats why they place so many ancestral photos on Deckard's piano to entrench in him the belief that he's a human with human ancestors ... just like how Rachel was tricked into thinking she's a human by the "mom's" photo in her possession) But to convince them that they are humans, you cannot give their superhuman abilities as it will immediately make them suspicious that they are in fact replicants ! Get it ? Sure, Deckard gets beaten up badly but notice he do seems more resilient to beatings than normal humans, thats enough to make him last longer than a human police and it will not arouse too much suspicion of his real identity. Also he's equipped with a powerful gun which the replicants have no access to due to fear of being tracked down by the gun's tracking device ... Eventually even if they lose Deckard, they can still manufacture another 10 Deckards , its a lot better than losing human police lives...

And Holden as a human blade runner will still be needed to perform the dangerous task if the experiment of using a replicant (Deckard) to hunt other replicant is newly implemented and not yet fully tested before ... right ? Deckard can very well be manufactured just a few days ago with false memories that he's been around for a long time ... Also, notice that Gaff knows what Deckard is dreaming about ? It looks very likely that Deckard's false memories and recurring dreams actually belongs to Gaff thats why Gaff knows what Deckard is thinking, right ? Gaff's limping walk suggests he was injured in the past hunting replicants, so to replace him, they use his memories to implant inside a new replicant (Deckard) to create a Blade Runner with Gaff's vast experience in hunting replicants... thats probably why Gaff knows what Deckard is thinking !! That means Gaff is the one overseeing the whole experiment for its efficacy, thats why Gaff is always shadowing Deckard's whereabouts and is even able to retrieve Deckard's lost gun to return it to him at the end of the movie .. obviously there is a tracking device built into Deckard's gun, thats how Gaff is able to know where to retrieve it ...

Oh wow where to even begin. Media literacy is truly dead after wasting 7 minutes of my life on this video 1) movies are made with even the most minor of decisions looked over. Tiny changes in background voices? Little dialogue changes? All of them add up. For example, when confronting Tyrell, Roy says in the theatrical cut “I want more life fucker” but in the Final Cut it’s “I want more life father”. I get that may seem small on the surface, but that once line changes the dynamics between the two massively. Also I find it very funny that you complain about Ridley Scott changed enough with only minor tweaks, but then also proceed to complain there aren’t enough changes like T2. You also proceed to complain that there is a continuity issue with a broken window, but when Ridley Scott went back to actually fix some continuity errors digitally you complain those are unneeded. Pick a side and stop contradicting yourself within your own arguments 2) Yeah, the movie isn’t 100% a perfect adaptation. Why is that a bad thing? It decided to go and do its own thing building off some elements from the book. Philip K Dick, while not alive to see the finished film, did see small chunks that were completed before his passing and loved it. That’s praise for (admittedly part of) the movie by the author of the book. Not that you care, since you’re upset it didn’t stick closer to the book while also hating the book. Also, goes to show you were not paying attention when watching the movie, because an entire part of the plot is about Deckard tracking down Zhora because he found a scale from her artificial snake. Zhora also goes to comment that if she could afford a real snake she wouldn’t be a dancer 3) This is Ridley’s vision, not your own my guy. Yeah, the movie may not click on first viewing, it rarely does and this has been talked about a lot over the years. Movies aren’t required to spill everything out to you in one sitting, in fact some of the best movies don’t (2001, Once Upon A Time In America, Do The Right Thing, etc). If you prefer the theatrical cut, that’s fine. But that version isn’t the definitive Blade Runner because the movie was taken from Ridley’s control and butchered by the studio
