Skyscraper grew on me over the years. It’s a clinical and calculated rocknroll masterpiece.
Not a big DLR band fan but I gotta say all 3 of those guys turned out to be pretty decent humans.
"Gimme a bottle of anything and a glazed donut.... to go!"
I was at one of those those at the Sweatatorium! Good Times. I met Greg many years later, and had some awesome conversations. He remembers every gig, and had some cool memories of the Sportatorium shows. He's such a genuine, and overall good human!!

I interviewed Greg in Nashville and its true.. He remembered the sportatorium well. Talked about the miles of trees to get to the gig. Great guy.
Another great vid. Thanks for the material. Hope you are feelin better.

Saw them in Albq NM. Wild show, what a band. Crazy good
It reminded me when I saw KISS for the very first time in 2008. It was a huge deal for me, obviously, and I got in the line at the entrance 6 hours before the beginning. And there was a fan, surely a die-hard, all covered with KISS patches and tattoos, and he was already drunk and rowdy but as they started to let people in the arena he was unconscious and his friends just let him sleep outside. That guy surely had a great KISS show :))
Saw "Eat Em and Smile" tour. Was so loud, I couldn't tell one song from another. I think Power Station opened up - I can't remember much about it. Sheehan was smart to take up Roth's offer. I grew up an hour away from Buffalo and Talas wasn't going anywhere. They were strictly a club act that would come around maybe every 6 months. Zero radio play locally. I heard Sheehan had a huge ego FWIW.

I’m curious about the tour with The Power Station. Robert Palmer was or was not on tour with them? I remember him not being at Live Aid on stage with them as he had moved on to do his solo stuff. I saw DLR in ‘88 with Poison in St. Louis. Was an amazing show none the less.
This is the News 🎸
I saw whitesnake when steve vai was touring with them. He even brought out that cool af heart shaped guitar for a bit. The whole night kicked ass. Stood right in front all night long. This was still the days when you could go wherever you want on the floor if you could keep from getting crushed.

The good ole days.
Not a fan of DLR, after VH, yet I am glad to hear things were cool and a good time for the people who worked with the guy. What happened to DLR,? such a strange dude.
MY BUD AND I DRESSED UP LIKE THE CANNIBAL ON THE ALBUM COVER, FEATHERS AND ALL! MY HAIR DRESSER CHIC FRIEND DID THE MAKE UP FOR US. IT WAS IDENTICAL TO ROTHS. WE GOT SHIT FACED AT THE TAIL GATE PARTY! AND MANEUVERED TO THE FRONT OF THE STAGE, GROPING EVERY CHICA ALONG THE WAY. IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST CONCERTS I'VE GONE TO. I THOUGHT IT KICKED MORE AS THAN THE VAN HALEN 1984 TOUR. ROTH WAS RELENTLESS ON THAT TOUR! I STILL GOT THE PHOTOS OF US IN COSTUME," EATING AND SMILING!"

I had a couple of Talas' studio albums and also their live album. Good band. Saw Billy with DLR and with Mr Big. Great bassist, vocalist and performer!
I saw Van Halen's "1984" concert at the Hollywood, Sportatorium. Also know as the Snortatorium. Autograph opened to boos the second they hit the stage. Unlike Cinderella they had no album out yet. "Turn Up the Radio" was about 17 months away.

@@almosthuman56 My first concert was Ozzy/Def Leppard at Sunrise Musical Theater on Sept 11, 1981. My mother did not want us going to the Snortatorium. I almost had her convinced to let me go to see BOC there. Can't remember if that was before the Rush tea gas incident. When she read about that in the papers she would not let me even discuss concerts there for the next couple years. That VH concert she let me go because my friend's dad was going with us. He was freaked out about Autograph getting booed. I found it rather distasteful as I previously read Scott Bernard's (Showtime) review of a Loverboy show where the local opening act was booed. Zebra was slated to open for them at Sportatorium and had cancelled.

I was just watching a video of the DLR-band playing Detroit in 1986 … wow.

Welcome!
I didn't really like the A Little Ain't Enough album (that started my separation from DLR), but Joe Holmes was the guitarist on tour and he nailed the Eddie stuff, and Dave surfed directly over my head
I loved that calypso part! So unexpected.
A little ain't enough was a good album. But born again and sabotage will always be the best... Tomorrow's dream .
I grew up south of Buffalo and Billy's band Talus played the bars and clubs all the time but i was too young to get in to any. I did see Talus in 1984 when they played at my college. Billy had a Whammy bar on his base and was playing it like Eddie Van Halen. Tapping and forced harmonics. Crazy stuff.

*Talas 🙄
I liked Skyscraper as an album but at the time it felt like Dave wanted to streatch out and move into "dance rhythms" and "miami sounds" to paraphrase his interviews at the time.(The cylipso thing in the shows😅) Dave overestimated his audiences interest in HIS interests. DLR fans will bend with him a bit (Crazy from the Heat ep) but they wanted a continuation of the VH sound mainly and when he made these detours it was tolerated for awhile... A Little Aint enough felt like an attempt to pull back on these eccentricities, but the times were changing mus8cally.
@alspencer3826

I agree with your comments completely. The A little ain't enough was a good album, and I feel it was an attempt to get back to a more traditional dave sounding album. However, you are completely right, the music scene was changing, had that album come out just one year earlier, I feel it would have been huge!! Some of his decisions have puzzled me over the years, and I often wonder what would have happened if he just kept it goin with the solo band? Sometimes i just want to strangle him, but it's too late for the could of, should have thing, oh well.
Skyscraper was great
The interview footage of DLR , Vai and Billy doing promo for Eat Em and Smile when Roth scolds Billy for "squeaking" his chair is wild.
Ralph: "I was legless....i had no legs!" 😆😆🤣
He had no publishing on the Skyscraper album, and the tours probably did not pay that well. So, he had to move on.
the first 2 dlr albums where really good.
David lee roth was the greatest show I ever. Brilliant!
David Lee Roth always looked old
did daves wig fool anybody back in 1986 ?🤣
@rich52569

I remember saying to myself (not knowing it was a wig at the time) why is he wearing bangs? - it looked horrible - his VH wig always looked more natural to me.
@bb-gc2tx
29 күн бұрын
@@rich52569 dont think he wore a wig in VH. you can see by 1985 his hair was starting to go then in 1986 when he launched solo career he went full wig. that had suck being one of biggest rock stars in the world and you start losing your hair rapidly at 31 years old
0:30 ???????
Eat em' and Smile is a great album. Too bad David didn't keep the other ones would had be the same way.
Those guys loved playing with Dave and
Agree with you totally as usual,Eat'em tour was fabulous Sky crapper was a let down. Had a good drunken time at both though. Be well
I like Skyscraper better than Eat em and smile. My favorite David Lee Roth album
🤔 Billy's back in Buffalo shoveling snow❄️Go Bills! 😆ha,ha
Bro you can tell all the stories you want if you’ll sell me that Roth shirt in this video. No BS i’ll buy it can i email ya? Whatever u want you got it.
in my dream world, Dave keeps that 85 band together and squashes Sam Halen into the ground… OU812 completely flops, FUCK never gets released
Skyscraper was such a misstep. It stalled Dave’s career and he couldn’t make up the ground.

I think Skyscraper is a great album.
Roth was stupid with the band and ruined it, he had one of the world's top bass players and he was writing songs with a synth bass parts. I talked with Billy about what happened and it was just plain stupid what Roth did. Sheehan is a great guy so was Paul
