In India, there is a widespread perception that everyone is pursuing engineering or medicine. However, a recent study by the Ministry of Education revealed that the most sought-after course is not engineering or medicine but rather Bachelor of Arts (BA). Despite its popularity, BA courses in India face numerous challenges related to employability, the quality of education, and even discrimination from families and employers. In this video, we aim to address the contradiction between the popularity of the BA course and its subpar quality.

@@revealthinking12345 these "when and how babar died?" Doesn't help you in real life or in jobs Maybe writing skills helps but that's a completely different thing Another thing is that govt job preparation doesn't make you a knowledgeable person For example you know certain things about the Indian economy But if someone wants some intense writing on some economic theory They prefer someone having an economics degree Most of the people who are preparing for government jobs just want to pass their exam They don't want to gain knowledge For this they just mugged up things Which is not at all bad if you want to carck the exam and many people cracked it like this as well Some upsc aspirants may have some skills Which you are talking about Another thing the term general awareness means That you are aware of certain things that are happening or happened in the past around you And there are some differences between "awareness" and "deep knowledge" But apart from that aspirants have some serious psychological problems They prepare for govt jobs Failed again,do preparation Failed again ,do preparation and this cycle continues over and over again And it becomes a vicious cycle I have seen many people They are unskilled but their salary expectation is sky high They are in this govt job cycle for 4-5 years But when they got jobs in the private sectors They are not happy with starting salaries like 10-15k Look preparing for govt jobs is not bad But you have limit your time That should be maximum 2 years That after that I will do something else in my life

Dear fellow BA graduates, I initially pursued a BA with dreams of a government job. However, upon completing my degree at Ramjas, I realized it wasn't my path. I ventured into the private sector, starting as a technical sales rep in 2014, working night shifts. Through job switches and skill-building, I became eligible for Dell Technologies in 2016. I excelled, earning promotions and a breakthrough opportunity at Adobe as a program manager. Today, I earn a six-figure monthly salary, surpassing the cost of my entire education from 1st grade to graduation. The key lesson: No matter your field, expect initial struggles. Focus on honing additional skills for continuous growth.

I am a BA Asst. Proffessor in a UG college. I encourage any BA students watching this video to pursue higher studies (MA/P.hD) and hone their skills in research methodology. For those afraid of maths, you should start focusing on statistics as it is pivotal for research work. Dont fear if you got poor marks in maths in class X, i barely passed with 38% in CBSE class X maths myself. All you need is conceptual knowledge and the rest is done by statistical softwares like SPSS (trust me on this). There is lots of scope if you are patient enough to devote a few more years beyond graduation. If anyone has any question, reply to me in the comments.

I have been a bright student throughout and opted for humanities. After graduation, I interned in NGOs, worked part time as a tele-marketter. Then I got a social work degree from TISS and got placement immediately. The issue is in BA you must only go to the best colleges. As to internships, please stop saying a history graduate should do internship in sales. That's a problem of the economy. What is really needed is to create avenues for internship for history graduates to assist historians, museologists, archaeologists, curators, writers; political science students to assist local political parties, campaign agencies etc; geography students to assist geographers, geologists, anthropologists; psychology students to assist psychologist. The problem is that of the economy, not just that of the students.

And what is There to laugh about It? I have seen students with top ranks taking arts while students with just fine grades take science and they aren't Even Good at It, neither interested. Majority of maths students choose maths due to family pressure and for better career opportunity, not because They are Interested or good at maths Honestly, When I was in 11th, 12th students used to be most relaxed During maths exams while chem was real fear. Its not because they were good in maths, rather because maths paper used to be easiest as compared to other subjects. And its level was quite low, to the extend that I was quite sure that even my friends who took arts can do it after little bit of explanation. Now it can be different for different ppl but maths isn't as hard as ppl present it. Yes, u might not be excellent at it but an average student with little bit of interest in maths or Even just interest in money (thinking that only maths can give good earning) can easily do graduation with maths and it won't be any harder than graduation in arts

BA is a completely academic course, it is not for jobs or professional work. Problem is, people are nlt maachines. There are people who are amazing in subjects of arts like sociology, political science. You become researchers not job workers. For that, one should have financial backbone.

We need to move away from “Sikhaya nahi jata college mein” to “Maine kya sikha college mein beyond my college curriculum which will help me grow in my career.” Not sure if the education system in India is ever gonna change for good. We have to learn things on our own to shape our career.

@@sakshisonawane6626 That’s how education is everywhere outside India. A lot of focus on what students actually learn rather than “ratta maaro”. Plagiarism tests on assignments. Strict word limit on essays. Final year project showcase. Students work really hard for their GPAs. We don’t have good teachers in India, and issue with not having good teachers stems from the very root cause that Indian education system has not evolved with time, schools and colleges are understaffed, teachers are underpaid. Their time is utilised on things like Mid Day Meal Distribution & Election Duty. My mom is a school principal. I have seen her struggle. Coming back to the curriculum. I will cite my own example. I was in CBSE board. I don’t think NCERT did a great job at clarifying concepts. It touches things only on the surface level without going in depth. And like most people, I too come from a really small town. I did not have the access to internet during my school days & I have worked my butt off to move to bigger cities in India to pursue my graduation & masters. Getting a job did not come easy too. I never went home during my studies. I was always interning or freelancing during holidays. Were the professors exceptional in undergrad and postgrad? Nope. We were expected to learn things on our own. They would give us names of books to pick up & read from the library & we had to get back to them on what we understood & learnt. Trust me that has helped me a lot in my journey. I do agree with you on the part that teachers should make learning enjoyable & understandable to each student as per their learning capability. And at the end of the day there are no bad students, only bad teachers. But students should also have a “curious keeda” in them. If teachers are incapable to teach in classroom, can platforms like unacademy or physics wallah be of any help? What about college seniors? Can they help out in understanding a particular subject? I feel there are a lot of solutions to one problem. It’s only about figuring out which route to take.

But while studying in college I get to know that the subject which I was studying was of no use for my life. I have dropped my self. Now I am pursuing my graduation in BA spiritual psychology. While doing BA, I also gave CAT 2021 and got admission in one of the top tier 2 B-school. Now in October 2023, I got a package equal to the average package of a Baby IIM. Fear of maths and physics ( fear of failure and hard work ) 3. BA is easy and requires less college and class attendance. 4. Provides proper time and environment to prepare for government eaxm. 5. More than Curiosity itself, it is actually the lack of Monetization amongst Indian Graduates. "SALES = SUCCESS" "SALES MAKES MONEY" 90% ppl in India cannot "SELL". Often Colleges & Universities don't provide Career planning or Career guidance. More often than not Grads run after few jobs, that too on the basis of simply hearsay, without doing any due diligence themselves.

I've noticed most of my peers aren't even interested in CS rather they are interested in those quirky high paying corporate jobs. Most of them even enrolled thinking that CS will make them rich overnight. Whereas my friends who do BA are creative fellows who actually has a talent and isn't just interested in Money or placements. This goes a long way, doesn't matter if they make it or not.

I got my first job on the basis of my 12th graduation (which wasn't great either i scored like 57% commerce without maths). My first job paid me 15K and later it increased to 25K within 6 months. 10 months after my first job I got a job paying me 40K base, and including incentives and such , on average I'd take home 70- 80K to sometimes 1L. I moved to Canada 8 months ago, I have 2 cars (a new RAV4 Hybrid & a used ford escape) I work only 20 hrs a week, I'm an international student. Yet I'm saving more than what I was earning back home with my highest paying job. I guess you just have to keep hustling and eventually you'll make it. Speaking of what I did accomplished, I cleared the Prelims twice but due to different reasons couldn’t cleared the mains both the times. Also, cleared IBPS once but lost interest and didn’t wanted to become a Lawyer since everyone in my family is already one and even they wanted me to be something other than an Advocate even if it’s closer to that. So I did my MBA from Amity University from the money I saved working for 2 years and currently, I am working as Team Lead - HR with one of the largest Real Estate brands in Dubai on a salary I never expected I could make. Having a BA is one of the best decisions I ever took since it made me stronger in multiple disciplines instead of limiting me to just one specialisation.

I'm a BA geography major currently in 1st year and what I saw is there are people who ain't taking internships seriously like not the students but the people they say oh it's just BA and it doesn't really need you to do that all + criticism.also even if we get an internship how will it help like a geography major is doing internship in beauty parlour does it really help?? In my opinion an internship should be related to the subject one is pursuing as a major ig I should mention it's a girls government college which got autonomous last year so my point is shouldn't it be like necessary to do an internship related to the major instead of anything??

But you know, the thing is, this stream is not EASIER as it might seem to others. It's highly comprehensive and bulky plus I have economics and maths to provide a kind of OPTION B SCOPE. Few teachers were like wtf. Plus, CIVIL SERVANTS are supposed to know about our society and history and beliefs not how an engine works. much of the UPSC paper is based on humanities subjects. In fact, humanitarian subjects opposed excessive control of religion over ideas and due to this the scientists were able to circulate their ideas. Humanities wale buddies, you guys can rock. Students in the field of Economics should focus more on entrepreneurship and computer oriented skills, try to find a problem, then make a solution to that problem and you can capitalise it. The best part about BA is you get so much of spare time to get more skills and hands-on experiences. BA is a sleeping giant.

Regarding kids, India is overpopulated; cost of education, property, and healthcare is rising alarmingly. Don’t want to bring a child in a country which have corrupted govt. poor infrastructure, lack of resources to lead a average life. Better travel, invest money in FD, MF, stocks and create wealth and adopt kids.

In 2022, I successfully cleared both the railway and state police exams, currently serving as a State Police SI. I take pride in the significant role my history degree played in this accomplishment. It not only helped me secure a better package than what a private company offered - to match that income, I would have needed to invest more than ₹11,000 in my full three-year graduation 😢.also, I've observed some of my friends who invested heavily in their graduation and ended up with lower salaries from a Constable😂😂😂😂. Currently, my primary focus is on preparing for the state PCS exam.

Career fairs can be organised by school and college in collaboration with career guidance companies top universities worldwide, top personal branding strategists, top corporate excecutives, government departments and other such experts to provide further career guidance to students for their bright future. In a nutshell, efficient human capital development. Edit: It would also be great of more universities offer integrated and hons degrees as well.

My biggest learning in the job market as a BA English honours, MA English graduate - diversify your skill set. I started as an editor in the publishing industry, worked in a startup where I not only edited books, I learned how to typeset them, give ideas for book cover designs, book titles, generate leads, manage client communications, marketing, etc. In a short span, I became invaluable for my company and eligible for jobs in multiple roles. Then in my next job in the study abroad industry, I not only did well in catering to A grade students, but equally excelled in handling low grade students and helping them gain best admits. What kept me going apart from my capabilities as an editor was my academic background. Humanities provide you critical thinking abilities to survive in jobs that demand creativity. It provides you the ability to ask right questions and influence people with you informed and unique insights. Majorly my students are engineers who have the technical skills to transform the world but lack critical thinking to bring about such changes that can have a profound impact in the world.

I didn't know any such thing as an internship during my college days. I only came to know about it once my cousin went to study in a private college in Kolkata but by that time I was already done with college and had started preparing for govt. Job exams. There was no discussions about such a thing as skill development or internships and every one( I suppose) was having the perception that placements are only for engineering students. Every one was studying to just get the degree after which they would start applying for govt. Jobs. I suppose not only the colleges but also the schools had to take up the responsibility to counsel students about various career opportunities.

Mohak, a great video again. But, your testimonials are very limited to students of a few popular universities. One of the reasons for the high proportion of BA students is that they are the nearest 'go to government colleges' located around any rural area of India. I have worked in rural areas for a decade- the most common courses are BA + B.Ed. It's not just the enthusiasm for government job, it's more about the combination of available options- BA being a default course for many, awareness being limited to your district colleges, and students from poor families having limited means to access professional courses. A deep-dive in the spatial mapping of BA colleges vis-a-vis colleges offering technical/professional (NOT Vocational) courses could provide you a reason for this.

This points to another hidden problem in India, lack of awareness and research about job prospects from a degree. We are so frantic about the immediate next step: board exam marks, then entrance exam prep, college admission etc that we don’t think a step beyond. I am certain that if all the BA students in India had gotten good career counselling many would have planned their futures differently. We need to promote future based thinking in India. Right now we grind our students under pressure so much that they don’t have the bandwidth for it

I am a post graduate in Tamil literature. I cleared UGC NET in M.A final year and got fellowship to pursue PhD. I started to get around ₹35,000 monthly at the age of 22. It's really feel good. My classmate(B.A only) got a job in government sector at the age of 21 and basic pay is around 40,000. And for B.A its bachelor of Arts. You should have creativity for arts. And with that creativity you can earn easily. I will not say every B.A graduate got a job but what? I saw people who studied professional courses also struggle to get a job. You can get job with any degree. But You should studied it properly and seriously. Don't generalize and fall for it. Go for your interest, pour your soul into it and you will get a job.

This is true i feel. Most of us don't put our hearts and soul into what we're doing that's why we struggle to get jobs. To quote a line from farzi " If you do it half heartedly better don't do it at all".

Aapki baat sahi hai par , kya graduation ke baad hi job milti hai nahi na , B.A karne ke baad ya to government exam ki tyari Karo kyonki syllabus hi vaisa hota hai private job karne ke liye vaisi knowlegde nahi hoti hai , or agar teacher ya professor banna ho to uske liye bhi time jata hai M.A karo fir Net nikalo PhD ke liye or fellowship bhi tabhi milti hai jab JRF niklta hai nahi kuchh nahi , or graduation ke baad hi har koi chahta hai ki vo apna khrcha khud uthaye , yaha baat mehnat ki nahi hai kyoki har koi karta hi hai baat ye hai ki B.A me kuchh professional courses bhi karaye to vo students ke liye achha hoga , nahi to litrature padhta hai use to sirf usi pe depend hona padta hai or teacher ya professor banne tak me kafi time lag jata hai tab tak bina job ke kaisa lagta hai vo students hi jante hai

@@DrawStick Everyone should go for their own interest bro/sis. In their area of interest they have their best knowledge and they can shine there. But we think some courses are superior some are inferior. So many students take a course without proper knowledge or interest in the subject. If they go for their true interest they can achieve. And I don't know Hindi and answered your reply with what Google translated to me if it is not accurate, Sorry.😊

Actually problem is that we don't have solid art industry here. 1. Visual Design industry: Just look around the banners once you go out for a while, either they are clichéd or they look so cheap and wrong. Same thing in packaging and digital advertising. Things are so bad that if you really see a good ad, then you know it's directed by Tanmay Bhatt. 2. Exterior and interior: We have lost our glory. And somehow we are trying to copy the west and ending up nowhere. Just look at the Indian cricket stadiums and the colors we choose. Things are truly wrong. You can’t get away such things without the help of expert designers. 3. Art and entertainment: We do have massive art and entertainment industry, but I doubt B.A. courses teach those stuff. There are some courses but not really popular. 4. Animation: Lol. We all know what kind of Animation industry we have here. And in the name of Animation teaching, Arena, MAAC are scamming millions of people. 5. UX: Here companies hire ui and graphic designers for ux stuff. 🙃 Probably only NIFS and some few are good institutions. Otherwise you gotta depend on internet materials, which is even better.
