I was in a school in Mumbai which has many child actors... They were so popular in school and i am sure it gave many like me a full fledged existential crisis... They were praised in assemblies, liked by teachers, received special leaves for shooting and so on. But as I have grown up I have started realising how fortunate I was to just be a child... We hustle all our lives anyway.

The new kind of expIoitation of child actors is happening in the name of “family vlogs”. What’s worse in the vlogging space is that the kids are not just actors- they’re also the products & “characters”. They’re the reason for pulling views & the channel’s existence. They’re doing labour, but we don’t know if the money the KIDS EARN is being saved responsibly for their future. Parents should stop trying to live vicariously through their kids. Focus on their well being, not just “success” & fame.

I was 7 years old when I joined theatre classes, I participated in a play at school and I enjoyed it a lot, which is why I begged my parents to let me join classes, which they let me do. I participated in a bunch of plays and I was pretty good at acting, hence I was approached for ad shoots and stuff around the age of 8 or 9, which my parents firmly refused to let me do. Back then, it made no sense to me and I felt like they were holding me back, I fought a lot with them over this but my mom said you will understand our reasons when you are older, and my dad said that he will never let me act in ads, shows or movies as a child but will fully support me when I am an adult and mature enough to make that decision. I eventually started losing interest in acting and left theatre at the age of 11. Now, I am 16 and I am so happy and glad my parents did not let me do ads, and let me be a normal child.

In hollywood, there is also an issue with child actors mainly females. I have seen so many interviews in which they have exposed how industry exploits them in very bad way. There are so many actors like miley cyrus, millie bobby brown , etc. have face so much exploitation in the industry in their earlier phase. There is rules and regulations but who followed them strictly? Even there are some child actors who started getting addicted towards drugs nd substances after getting into the industry. I think Indian film industry is much better than Hollywood. But for child there should be some strict rules and actions should be taken by the parents and government as well.

This video made me realise how lucky i am to have my parents as my parents. As you metioned, it is very true that many kids often get interested in becoming actors or part of media but it's actually because how it is projected to us. We see these child actors having fabulous lifestyles, meeting popular actors, having fame and money and we dream of having so too while the reality is so cruel. I also dreamed of becoming an actor or if I put it honestly, to have the fame and glory. When I told my parents to put me for auditions not being aware of what actually happens, my parents never said anything instead my mom put me into acting and dancing classes and also I'd perform on local stages and functions but as I grew up I totally lost my interest in all those and for a long time I'd complain about why my parents didn't let me do auditions and all... But I am really glad now that I am actually following my dream and I know what I am passionate about. Thank you so much for this video, honestly an eye opener!!! ❤

You didn’t mention Ahsas Channa who was made to act as a boy in films like Vaastu Shastri and KANK..and nobody knew she was a girl until she was around 9 when her father revealed it to the press and threatened to sue her mom or something.

This is a HUGE problem in Hollywood as well. People have been calling for stricter laws for child actors in the entertainment industry. They use twins for the same role because a child under the age of 12 cannot be worked over 4-6 hours, but even this law is broken. India mein bhi yeh awareness hoke nayi laws aur better working conditions banani chahiye.

Not to forget number of kids who were exploited not even by the industry people itself but their parents as well, famous examples include Drew Barrymore, Macaulay Culkin. Even the channels who claimed to be kid friendly exploited these children biggest example is of Nick, the recent documentary on it and Nick's producer Dan Schneider, exposed him and others, how they ruined Amanada Bynes, Drake bell was sexually assaulted and such other details revealed were way too disturbing.

But I think one thing you're ignoring is the fact that se*ual exploitation of children is not a film industry problem alone, it happens everywhere. Even within religious settings. It's not uncommon for children to get se*ually abused by priests/sheiks/teachers etc. Parents need to be more protective of their children and not allow them to be in any unsafe environments.

I am also a budding film director, and I have directed some short films and working with kids is a really hard thing, they are non professional and I can't even shout on them as they are kids working without a pay. So recently I had compromised with acting as main bachchon ko force nahi kar sakti. Abhi short films mein yeh haal hai so future mein feature films mein bahut dikkat hogi. 😓 I will try to b like Priyadarshan sir like he was on Bumm Bumm Bole set, as he loved the girl child artist with Darsheel as she was as cute as his daughter and resembled her.💖💖

I think we as a society tend to look at every child behaviour with a adult lens, as in if they this is doing this now then what will it be doing at my age. I think this is the main problem. Because it's not just acting, but "gifted" children in general face this. Many kids who were supposedly considered gifted as a child and went to special classes etc., later in life can't understand why they are not able to live upto the expectations people had from them.

I am 20 years old right now and when I was a child I also wanted to become an actor and wanted to be on TV as I was also influenced by other child actors I saw on TV But my parents never agreed to that and I am so happy right now I didn't choose acting as a career and feel very relieved now. At that time I was very angry with my parents because I felt like they didn't support my passion and interest and didn't let me do things I liked but now I understand they were completely right and they stopped me for my well-being.

And now I understand why he refused; after seeing cases of Casting Couch, Harassment and Drugs and all.
