Nah what you’re forgetting is that the OG game director of Assassin’s Creed 1, 2, and Brotherhood, Patrice Desilets had left Ubisoft. The guy had the next 5 games of the franchise plotted out, which centered about Desmond reviving the modern day order of Assassin’s, taking on Abstergo, and saving the world at the same time. His time in the animus exploring different ancestors would’ve made him the ultimate assassin. Assassin’s Creed 3 was a result of the original team leaving Ubisoft Because of the direction the company was going. Desmond wasn’t meant to die.

Ubisoft is currently in a state of complete mediocrity. They can no longer release anything iconic, anything that impacts the gaming industry. Ubsoft today lives in its own shadow. Imagine that in the near future Ubsoft goes bankrupt, in 10 years, will people remember Ezio Auditore or whoever is the next forgettable protagonist of the AC RPG series?

Last Ubisoft game I purchased was AC Syndicate. I actually thought that it was alright, but I didn't bother playing another Ubisoft title after that. In other words: I haven't touched a new Ubisoft title in nearly 10 years lmao@@benjihoebruh

Id love a new story set in japan personally, or china. I just hope some format of present day exists and I am still hoping for that present day game.

@AlmostInFullColor absolutely! My ideal Japan game would be in the later periods where the Portuguese have entered the scene and some gunpowder is becoming used in warfare. Putting the status of the Samurai and risk and spelling the beginnings of modern age Japan

the present day bs sucked when it reached black flag and i'm not gonna lie, I didn't even like it before that. I wish it was set in the past from the beginning and then built up from then to further and further in history and then it naturally reached the modern timeline, but unfortunately the first installment of Assassin's creed had the Animus, so EVERY AC title afterwards had the damn animus. Also Layla sucked, at least I liked Desmond and got into his character as I played the games and accepted the whole Animus BS, but Layla was just awful. Her exit from the franchise brought me nothing but joy, and Basim replacing her was awesome cuz I actually like his character. In conclusion, fuck Layla, fuck present day BS and bring Miles back somehow... plz... I miss him...

Desmond storyline was the best time as well. Assassin creed 1 having a complete overhaul. It was a tech demo and I still say it’s the worst gameplay wise since it was so repetitive. I also think it’s the case of making a story go to long is the problem. After 3 it was trying to make it continue but felt more forced. I was they would have just made spin offs like the 2.5D games.

To me the things that Assassins Creed special to other open world games was the parkour and stealth assassinations in historic cities. I feel like they started to lose their way with Black Flag even though it was a great game. AC2 will always be my favorite for the nostalgia

2 for me really drove the brotherhood aspect of the game. Starting as an apprentice assassin and working your way to Master assassin is something that has been missing for a while. Mirage did try to bring that aspect back but it was shallow in its presentation.

I love that everybody who say that AC games are bad now never agree on which AC game is the last good AC. Some people say it's Unity or Black Flag or AC3 or AC2. AC3 so popular !?? It's one of the AC game with the lowest user rating on Metacritic, just behind Unity. Black Flag is still the most sold AC game as of today, not the first 3 games, who cares that you don't play an assassin if the gameplay, story, characters, etc are better? The present day scenes in AC games always sucked, it was the most boring part of those game and many people asked for an option to skip those scenes in AC games like Black Flag. This story about templar vs assassins is stupid and boring, that's why the story of each AC after AC1 in 99% about anything else, like Ezio's revenge from the guys who killed his father and brothers, that's also why the movie, despite having great actors, is so boring. Honestly I really don't give a shit about this story, it's just a link between games but nothign else, I'm more interested in the main character personal story in each game and my interest in games is 10% story, 90% gameplay. Saying that they should stop making AC games because they told everything it's like saying that Final Fantasy games should stop or Tomb raider games should stop. All AC games are differents games with their own story and gameplay, they should be juged on what they are as games and not because of other AC games. Ps: The "first 3 AC" are not AC1,2 and 3, it's AC1, AC2, Brotherhood.

Only a very few amount of the FF games are interconnected to the point where the story of the previous game impacts the story of the next. Tomb raider games are a series of adventures that reference the last adventure as an Easter Egg more so. So those games are poor examples as they are quite different from the AC1, AC2, and AC3 by way of the present day is what links all the games in a very integral way. Once that precedence was set and there was reason for entering the animus in every game, the lack of the animus/the dwindling importance of entering the animus becomes more and more of a slippery slope and maybe the game should have just had something along the lines of after desmond made the sacrifice we compiled the knowledge of our ancestors to help rebuild, here you can play through their lives. Thus eliminating the need for present day, but they keep trying to do something with the present day and you can tell its not really going anywhere. If you prefer gameplay over story that's fine. Weird you just don't play call of duty or fortnite exclusively. But, to each their own. I think the series slick story telling is becoming dull and that to get back to that point greatness that came before an overhaul needs to exist on the narrative side.

@@AlmostInFullColor Lol. "Weird you just don't play games from Quantic Games or Telltale Games exclusively if you prefer story over gameplay" And I love the storIES of AC games. I loved the revenge of Ezio, the personal story of Edward Kenway or Alexios but really, the "templar VS assassins/Da Vinci Code" plot is so boring and cheesie, that's why they almost stopped talking about it. Even in AC2, you really heard about it (as Ezio) in the last hour of the game, before that you just seeking for the guys who killed your father and brothers. Same for the present day parts of the games. Seriously what was your favorite present day sequence in the first AC games?

I enjoyed all the present day moments from the end of 1 where the mystery begins to set in with Desmonds development of eagle vision. and all of AC2 and AC3. Desmond to me seemingly was being set up to become the master of master assassins, learning firsthand from assassins that came before and his interactions with the Isu were also great to me as some questions were beginning to get get answers and more questions developed as a result. I wish desmond had a secret kid or something that his dad is watching over and he will become the next present day assassin to lead the way. I enjoyed all the takes on powerful artifacts from the apple of eden to excalibur and how it pertained to "God"/"First people". The past stories are great, i have no issue with those whatsoever. Its merely that a present day world was revealed and ever since 3 no clear picture on the state of that world has been given. Therein lies the issue for me. @@spacepirate9882

Dude they really dropped the ball on this one. The dialogue sucks, the upgrade process makes zero sense. The tools? What?! You literally do not need any of the tools past the torch, throwing knife and blow dart. This has nothing to do with the original story line and they completely left the animus out… why? It’s like a new game that’s beautiful, but what in the actual fcuk were the developers thinking?
