Why artist Javier Calleja is BREAKING RECORDS in the Art World!
Today, I am meeting gallery director Rafael Pérez Hernando to chat about Spanish artist Javier Calleja’s latest exhibition in Madrid. Unlike his most recent shows in Asia and the US, this one is more intimate just like his relationship with its gallerist Rafael which also transpires in the title of the show ‘Si Yo Te Contara…’.

This guy literally just stole Yoshitomo Nara’s style and even the poses. How did he even get this far into his career without people calling him unoriginal and a thief because Callejo’s art looks exactly like Nara’s

" You don't have to be very smart to see Nara in my work, but you have to be really dumb to only see Nara in it. In my work, of course, there are all the artists who have passed through my life. Barry McGee, Nara, Philip Guston... I precisely believe that the latter is in the work of all the previous ones. All of them make up my work and I am very much against the idea that just because someone does something it can no longer be done. From my point of view this is a drag on conceptualism, where the idea is so important that anyone else who takes it is already copying it. Nara came first, I'm very frank about that, but I find it funny that people don't like my work because it looks like someone else's." Javier Calleja.

@@AFXtwin That´s a myth. In the other video about him on this channel Javier explains that he was never Nara's apprentice.
I literally feel how passionated you are about this 😊
