Elsa has spent another quiet weekend at the hospital. While she remains in a serious state, we are beginning to see small but hopeful improvements in her test results.
This weekend, our medical team carried out minor procedures to address a nasal discharge and to treat injuries on her ears, all steps forward in her recovery process. However, the most profound aspect of Elsa’s recovery is not just physical. Elsa’s fear, her avoidance of eye contact, and her distant demeanor speak volumes of her past hardships. She has survived months, possibly years, in the wild, evading human contact and protecting herself from harm. Such behaviors were her survival mechanisms-avoiding stones thrown at her, evading gunshots. These experiences have instilled a deep-seated fear of people, which we are now working hard to overcome.
Understanding Elsa’s behavior is crucial. It reflects not defiance but a deeply ingrained fear for survival. We are committed to helping Elsa not only heal physically but also trust again. Breaking through her protective shield will take time and patience, but we believe in her potential to become an incredible companion.

that poor sweetheart of a pooch must of went through a living h... to become that withdrawn from human contact's I can only hope and pray that this lovable pooch can recover from this living nightmare she now live,s in it,s going to take time it,s up to Elsa how much time and it's going to take patient,s with her because it's her speed of recovery that matter,s most at least to me anyway😔🙏

Thank you for saying that when a dog yawns, they are stressed and have fear if they don’t look you in the eye. I am fostering a German Shepherd that was so skinny. It was awful. Also, I noticed she had fear of loud noises and of brooms. She has gain weight and is very friendly, but has fear of men. I just started to walk her and she yawns so now I know she is stressed. I am trying to train her. She does good in sit and down but stay, she doesn’t look into my eyes to get my signals to stay but now I understand why thank you for the video.

Elsa is in the right place. I don't think any animal could resist the loving care of your and the vet clinics teams. It will just take some time. I think you'll find her an absolute sweetheart once she realises she is safe.

She needs their help to heal physically and mentally and emotionally but it is the emotional healing that will be the hardest part. Her fear is so strong that she cannot trust those who are there to help her. They need your help and financial support and assistance to pay for her treatment so please donate and subscribe. ❤❤❤
Poor Elsa, her fear reminds me of Alma when you first rescued her. I hope with the care, love and similar psychological treatment the team at the Great House gave Alma that Elsa will become as relaxed and confident with people.
I can't imagine how horrible it would be to have complete faith in someone and then that person mistreated you and deserts you. So unbelievably how cruel humans can be to both each other and animals.
Continued prayers for precious Elsa for her miracle of a full and complete recovery.

She is so closed off, animals are like people when they are hurt enough and mistreated, it's easier to isolate your mind. That is what I feel she's doing, until she realizes she is safe and loved.❤
What kind of people traumatize a dog to the point she is non responsive. So scared of everyone ....it will take a long time to earned her trust. Once she feels better physically then the mental healing can begin. We are here for you beautiful girl.

I pray to God all the time to not let another human being hurt a sweet, innocent animal. I will never understand how a person can be so evil and cruel to God’s little creatures. They will have to answer to God someday and pay for their sins. ❤️✝️

She looks so regal sitting there. If you can help Mocha with her fear you can help this poor sweet soul ❤❤
There is a man who works with shut down dogs. He sits with his back to them without full eye contact. While sitting he quietly talks to them and offers small treats to see if they will take it from his hand. If the dog does he offers more to get the dog to use its senses. First smell. He keeps sitting with them and quietly talking to them and lets them know they are safe and no-one is going to hurt them. Eventually the dog comes over to him and he lets them sniff him. He keeps his voice quiet because over-excitement can shut them down again. Gradually the dog will let you touch them gently, but don't overdo it. You could try this technique, it might help. I noticed she was interested when the other dog barked. So maybe another calm dog will help her. Elsa seems to feel she is not worthy of the attention or kindness she is receiving. Poor baby, she's been through a lot. ❤

Yes, that sounds like Rocky Kanaka in Calif. He goes to a shelter to sit with the troubled dogs. He's now establishing a sort of rehab place for troubled dogs on his coffee farm. I hope Elsa will feel better when she's with other dogs. I took in a beagle long ago who had been a stray for at least a year and didn't seem like he had ever been in a home. He wouldn't do anything unless my other 2 dogs did it first. Eventually he came around and was very happy with us and we were happy with him. I loved him very much.

One thing I noticed in this video was an almost imperceptible interest in what you were saying. Just that little spark that immediately fades, but from watching your videos, I know over time lasts longer and longer. I'm praying for Elsa and am hoping her soul and body heal together very soon. Elsa’s spirit is broken that’s why she’s feeling hopeless. That’s what human’s abuses and cruelty can do to poor and helpless animals. I really despise those people who made Elsa feel this way.
Sweet Elsa....you are so scared, shut down in your own world. We don't know where you have been, but we know that you have been shot, chased and endured physical and mental pain. I wish that we could meet.....at the moment you need all the medical attention to get well. There is quite a long road ahead of you. Poor sweet depressed Elsa. Such hopelessness and disconnection in her eyes. I feel confident tho that this team will bring her round. I love how this team takes every measure to help heal their patients. Oh, and da%! leishmaniasis. It's an insidious and evil disease.

I have seen this level of distress and behaviour before. It was the handy work of an alcoholic narcissist . The narcissist bit is important because the motive for the mistreatment was the narc was using him as an emotional punch bag so it made no difference how much the dog tried to please it never worked. It took a long time to get him physically OK and a bit trusting, his new owner did that. Once I established that I trusted the dogs judgement not the other way around as one would expect he blossomed into a powerful and intelligent dog. He and I used to get compliments on what a magnificent dog he was. long story cut very short.
