To be fair, almost all of Disney's biggest properties were stolen. The vast majority of their original films were simply retellings of fairy tales and then movies that weren't were either suspiciously similar to pre-existing stories or outright, obvious knockoffs (Kimba the White Lion -> The Lion King). Disney just has better lawyers and more money to throw at polish.

It does annoy me slightly that people claim literally every movie about fish is a nemo ripoff. Shark Tale has a different and good storyline, good character design, etc. and the only similarities between it and Finding Nemo is that they're both fish under the sea.

Disney gets rich as sin animating other people's works, so there is that. And no, I'm not kidding, look at nearly everything Disney has done. Aladdin, Bambi, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, Little Mermaid... it's all either based on an old fairy tale or someone's book.

Shark Tale isn't a Finding Nemo ripoff. According to Jeffrey Katzenberg, Shark Tale had already entered production by the time Finding Nemo was released. The storyline is also completely different. Not sure if I can defend the other 'ripoffs' as I've never seen them before. But I can certainly defend Shark Tale for the reasons I provided.

Shark Tale shouldn't be on here. Yes I agree they wanted to capitalise on thier success with Finding Nemo, but it's not a ripoff. A ripoff would have all the things you said but all it has in common is that it's a fish movie. It steals the eyes of veiwers, not the plot of another movie, so it's not a ripoff.

It happened with coco and the book of life and ands with bugs life. Disney and Pixar aren’t the poster children of creativity and originality. Different movie Vinod yes should be able to have slightly similar movies without one of them being automatically called out as a rip off

In defense of sharktale, it’s very different in story from finding Nemo. As well as design. I will say that dreamworks was probably just trying to jump onto the 3d movie hype train. But then Disney decided to jump onto the “let’s put Will Smith’s face onto the character he’s voicing” junky caboose.

The Reef/Sharkbait and A Turtle Tale were literally my favourite movies to talk about when I was 4-5. My mom and I would draw the main characters on paper, cut them out, and roleplay. Fun times. Another thing is that the net scene at 10:12 wasn't as clean as it is here. I watched the movie with *baaad* quality. The movie looked like some green paper was wrapped around it. So the entire net scene looked like a fucking. Nightmare. Fuel. Like the lighting looked like it was out of a horror movie, lol.

I saw The Reef when I was younger and the only part I remember is... “ShE mAdE iT iNtO nAtIoNaL gEoGrApHiC, tWiCe!”

There's a good chance you're right. According to CDC and Merriam-Webster, a defect has to be "present at birth." However, that also depends on how "present" is defined. Vitiligo IS in your body at birth, but sort of just laying low In your DNA. Definitely not visible or affecting you at that point, however. I'd say, probably NOT a birth defect.

I watched Reef, reef 2, and turtle movie when I was little and enjoyed them. But watched them 1 or 2 times. I think I found that tiger shark creepy and in a way or intimidating but idk I'm just going off memory here. Maybe because he said my digestive system or ate that sea snake etc

Tbh I watched the movie “dolphin” when I was a kid. And it was confusing about the plot of the movie and made me asking my young self “what movie is all about again?” This movie is beyond the worst movies I ever seen when I was a kid. And it’s still haunted to me to this day.

I personally don’t really think that turtle tale was a finding Nemo ripoff, but I actually liked that film as a kid, so I’m probably biased

Shark tale isn't a ripoff though. The only thing they have in relation is that they are fish. If it's a ripoff of anything it's simple theme of "don't take what you have for granted and be true to yourself" is used a lot.

I dunno. I don't hate the movie(I have no love for it though) but I always felt like they didn't need to be fish. At all. It honnestly feels like a very generic movie retooled to surf on the success of Finding Nemo but at the very least it has some qualities: the performances are good, the design isn't appealing to me but the animation is okay, some characters are charming but I feel like it wouldn't be as popular if they didn't made it underwater...

Shark Tales had more layers to it than "oh shit where is my son." Shark Tales gives u story and culture and is WAY funnier than Finding Nemo. Pixar did better with other movies. Even if the fish movie premise is opped from Pixar, i think Shark Tales deserves WAY more credit

They decide to see the world together, nearly dying a dozen times along the way, before they get separated again. He swims to Antarctica to find her, gets picked up by zoologists, sees her again, then immediately gets separated as the zoologists release her first. Then he finds her at a sunken ship and they have babies. Yeah.... I remember Nemo going to Antarctica and having babies... I also remember the time he got picked up and nursed back to health by a hippie with a talking cat... and then choking on a plastic bag. tbh, good movie, you should watch it.

I had some Kingdom Under the Sea DVDs when I was a kid. No idea where they came from, and I don't think we have them anymore, they just vanished back into the aether from whence they came. I remember part of the theme song too: "There is a kingdom under the sea, an ocean of stories for you and for me." Glad to know that wasn't just a fever dream.
