    Venom The Maine-iac Brockly Wesker Jon is not a cash cow for the UFC. He and DJ were some of the lower PPV selling champions regardless their win streaks. Jons best PPVs were with Gus and DC. The opponents sold the fight just as much as he did which made them decent. But Jon cant sell over 500k PPV by himself. The UFC would most likely profit more from Jon being beaten and then having a rematch.

    Here's what really happened. Joe Rogan pointed the judges out all thru the night on PPV to the audience. UFC used (predictive programming) to condition the fans by acting like the judges were incompetent all night to blame only the judges and not the UFC for fixing the main event if it went to decision. That explains why Dana blew it off at the presser by saying "we ain't judges" next question .Very strange coming from him over a main event with this magnitude. He usually has a cow when the judges fuck up a prelim fight let alone this one. Hmm and what happened because of it? It turned Reyes into a fan favorite instantly, a draw. No more "Mr Athlete" remember? The day before the fight he was just a meme joke. Now it's Reyes 123 with a shitload of fans all because he got robbed..Smart move if you ask me. They weren't going to let that title change hands over a decision. Not their Jonny Bones Jones Goat.No way. You kidding me? So now there's 2 draws instead of 1 and Jones vs Reyes 2 is born which will probably break PPV records easily considering everyone I witnessed that's still arguing about the decision. Now everybody wants to see the rematch. They got the fans arguing like crazy in the comment sections everywhere at.each others throats Rogan's in on it but I don't think Dom Cruz is because he's a fighter. He mentioned the judges but he always talks shit on them This is why Rogan was saying stuff about the judges all throughout the night to make sure you knew the judges were incompetent..Live on PPV for everyone to see. Who's everyone mad at? Joe Solis Not Dana not UFC not Rogan. There in the clear .I suggest you go back and watch him say it. Rogan even backpedaled his view of the fight on his podcast Which is very strange if you watch it..So go back and watch it all even the podcast and you'll see. They played everyone. Believe it or not it's the truth.

    @ChaelSonnen I think at the end of each round the judges should hold up a card to give to an assistant with the critiera and scoring for each round so a fighter along with fans would know where we stood during the fight. It would also stop any mistakes of a fighter thinking it was a 3-1 situation in the last so just avoids damage coasting to a decision they are not going to get. I think it could make for more exiting fights if a guy thinks he lost the first 2-3 so goes for the finish. Just a thought

  • @hellfirehellfyre6591
    @hellfirehellfyre65914 жыл бұрын

    Chael my answer to your question. In Australian boxing, to be a judge you need to be a licensed coach with experience and preferably an ex-fighter. The system is that firstly you judge amateur fights with the actual judges, your score doesn't count but at the end of the fight or the night you compare your score with the official judges and your mentor judge and have a discussion about any differences (at this stage there will be significant differences which is why your score does not count.), then a few fights down the track when you have shown consistent judgement you are on probation where you are one of the three official ringside judges, your score counts but you have an experienced judge mentor judging with you (who is not part of the three). That way if you stuff up due to inexperience the fighters won't be effected. After that you are a ringside judge on your own; you make your way through the amateur circuits then when you are good enough and consistent enough you move on to the professional circuit, world titles, Olympics - the big time. There is no one day curriculum and you get to judge the pro fights, that system is complete bullshit. Further we don't go out to the local IBJJF competition get three of their judges to judge a pro boxing bout, unlike the UFC where pure boxing judges are judging a UFC bout. The problem is that UFC really needs it own set of travelling judges, schooled and experienced in UFC, it also needs its own scoring system not the MUST system which is a boxing scoring system and not suited to a fighting style that largely incorporates wresting, BJJ and Judo based arts. I understand the State Combat Sports (boxing) Commission must legally supply the judges, perhaps the UFC could have an independent panel of ringside judges, using a scoring system that is a synthesis of Boxing/Muay-Thai, wresting, BJJ and Judo, to judge this unique sport we enjoy. If the UFC can demonstrate the insufficient nature of the current system it might be able to eventually control the quality and consistency of UFC judges.

But it would still be a set of three scores.

This was way before Dana White came into the picture. Joe didn't do the Man Show until Kimmel and Corrola left. The Texas Athletic commission states the one judge was looking down because he was watching the fight on the monitor. This was something new and the monitors were installed at the behest of the UFC. hey Chael look into the world surf league (WSL) and the way they judge, they have 5 judges and they throw away the highest score and the lowest score and keep the middle three as the result, keeping judges on the straight and narrow because if the are constantly on the high or low end they can just be faded out, do you think something like this could work in mma?

  • @Jjengering
    @Jjengering4 жыл бұрын

    They need a feedback loop, so that things get corrected. Right now it's just, this is what we did, deal with it, bye. It's complicated though because you can't really go back changing fights all the time or it would set a precedent for chaos in terms of fighters contesting losses. Best thing I can think of is the athletic commissions need an oversight committee formed by former coaches or fighters in the industry.

  • @joshuastephenward5316
    @joshuastephenward53164 жыл бұрын

    Mr. Chael, I might make a video fan question regarding this topic. I'm currently formulating my stance but I do know one thing and that is MMA must separate itself from the boxing world once and for all in it's scoring. It is not the same sport nor do we as fans want to see it become the mockery of a sport that boxing has become w/ it's shady reputation. Whenever there is a lot of money regarding something you are sure to find corruption. The best way is to ensure there is The least amount of corruption in judging a fight between two people is to have transparency in it's scoring. I think it's possible we would have better fights if the fighters knew the scoring after each round. I also think it is a worthy idea to consider a type of commission or board over the creation of judging rules That would consist of former fighters, media personnel as well as coaches and other people in the know in the sport. Hack if the NCAA can have a college football playoff committee why can't we have our own committee that can assemble annually to modify rules if need be and to vote on changes to the sport? It would appear to me that the multitude of ideas would best be served in a place and time or people can vote on the best ideas and we can still modify a sport that is so young in it's infancy.

    Either there have to be better judging or some kind of sudden death rule. I just don't know what sudden death they can have, in Karate tournaments I believe if Im not mistaken they break bricks if there is no clear winner. Eddie Bravo's grappling contests EDI also has a sudden death.

    its simple. have two panels of judges, live and virtual, have a second panel of licensed judges watching the replay of the fight from every angle, a small delay would allow them time to better analyze. compare the two sets of results.

    That's the problem right there. There needs to be just 1 commission so everyone is trained the exact same. Veteran fighters would be a good idea also and not just 3 judges but a group of them, 7-10. Also points need to be shown after each round.

    Uncle chael I think I have an idea, or the beginnings of one anyway! So there seems to be something to people rewatching fights with the sound turned way down or off so no outside influence from the commentators team and they can really focus in on the action of the fight, and they seem to have a completely different perspective from their original take on the outcome. Now, obviously fights need to be judged in real time and we can’t duplicate the ability to rewatch it. But maybe there is something we can take away from the ability to isolate the judges from outside influence even if they’re not listening the the commentators themselves I couldn’t only imagine being in the arena alone with thousands of screaming fans that’s a lot of sensory input all around you coming in that I mean come on, how can anybody ignore all of it with out any of it distracting you?!? Anyways I’m just a fan I’m not sure what exactly they have the judges doing other than just watching the fights as it stands right now but maybe something as simple as wearing some noise canceling headphones, help keep them locked in. Ufc was experimenting with those 360 degrees cameras at a certain point right? Idk what ever happened with those ? I’m sure they must have monitors in front of them as well but even sitting right up against the cage ins ire the refs get in their ways sometimes as well, but who says they need to be right there to judge the fight with the 360 cameras isolate them completely in their own room with all the resources they could need to do as good a job as possible??

    Thinking maybe there should be 5 judges. All judges should have to go through some kinda school on judging. Next I think you should encourage and allow former fighters to be judges. Next I think you should consider live scoring. Next I think after each fight night comes to a close judges should have to answer questions on how they saw and scored the fight. Next do away with the current scoring system and create an mma scoring system that scores each specific criteria a certain way. Next have a system if judges are scoring like shit and not watching the fight they get written up and once u get more than 2 your out. Judges should be open to investigation just as fighters are. Especially if there not even watching the fight, or scoring is all over the place. While they are investigated they should not be allowed to judge and there pay for the event should be held. Make it where the judges have to sign a contract stating they took these classes and they will uphold and abide by the scoring and systems put into place. If not they are subject to being investigated, suspended, license revoked, and there not paid.

    I heard that the judges have a monitor to watch so they can have a better view. I am not 100 % sure it's true or proven that the judge wasn't watching. That being said, there are SERIOUS issues with subjective rule set and changes need to be made. Jim Jitsu tournaments have specific points dmfor different positions that are more objective. I don't tnn it's as complicated as we make it. No judge can do a great job with a shitty rule set. Love all you do Chael!! Huge fan!

    Uncle Chael…..as two lifetime Wrestlers...I think we can both agree that Wrestling scoring and refereeing is as close to fair as can be compared. The athlete MUST obtain a dominant position to score points. A takedown HAS requirements before it's a take dawn. You physically have to change from bottom position to Top position and achieve the dominant position before it will be acknowledged as a reversal. It's not subjective on how great you think the takedown looked or if you were impressed by it....if they achieved the position...its scored appropriately. Strikes thrown vs Landed, takedowns achieved/ ride time/ reversals, and EVERY ROUND IS VALUED EQUALLY. A takedown regardless of round is worth 2pts. Not 2pts now and 5pts later on in Overtime. A takedown in the first 30seconds of the fight is the same value as one scored in the last 30sec. Why isn't there a judge who is a former/accomplished Striker/Boxer, a judge that is a grappling authority, etc. Specialized opinions that, as Schaub would say..."Stay in their own lane". At least have a displayed competence of what is it they are judging and not just the same nepotism and disregard that you see in incestuous unionized commissions.

    After the fight is done there is footage based on fact and will have full evidence of each round. Should there be an option to dispute a decision? Hey I think I won that fight, I am going to appeal the decision. Appealed decision then takes the fight footage and a gives it to a special group of 5 to 10 judges, maybe made up of fighters, and they re-score the fight. New judgement is based on exact numbers, strikes, sig. strikes, take downs etc. New judgement to keep decision or over turn decision. Maybe an appeal limit of 1 week or a month to ask for appeal or it lives in stone forever?

    How about say maybe 7 judges all spread around the cage. That way if 1 or 2 miss something because they were blindsided the others would see it and score it. Then at the end of each round you discard the highest and lowest scores so in theory you get a pretty good consensus of how the round actually went. I think they do something similar in some Olympic sports. That's about all I've got.

    Here’s a simple improvement; Three judges is too few. Add more judges around the octagon and maybe even a few more that see through video to get a different perspective than those at the ground level. If one judge is distracted and calls a round incorrectly, the majority will show that it was indeed a mistake. The incorrectly scored round will have a very small effect on the outcome of the fight...and everyone lives. Now all all is well in MMA-Land. You’re welcome.
