Becky 😂 the other day I went out to my run and NO CHICKENS! I have 3 gorgeous Black Australorp SWEETHEARTS SISTERS, and I freaked out! Then I heard “egg song singing”! I opened the side door of my Eglu Cube and there were all 3 sisters happy as clams laying their eggs together! My girls love each other so much. They are BFFs!

I follow your feeding suggestions adding small cat kibble with first ingredient of fish along with layer pellets16% protein, black oil sunflower seed and a small scoop of dehydrated soldier fly larva. They love it. During molting four of the eight hens are still laying. I think the extra protein helps grow their feathers back in sooner. They’ve stopped eating their eggs now.😃

The thing about feeding protein to chickens in the form of hot dogs is probably one of the best bits of advice I've got from any channel. I never have a problem with reduced egg laying one of my favorite ways to give protein to the chickens is to buy something for myself and give them the rest. Fried Chicken for instance who wants to pick all that meat off the bone when chickens have specialized tools for such activities? Sometimes I cook for them all day and cook every egg in the house. As long as they're eating it they need it

For real…I can’t afford“meat everyday” for my family, chickens included. I protein combine with grains. I add brown rice with noodles , or other grains. etc. for a treat. Cook first the chickens every day, they sure look forward to that. They always have feed and oyster shells available. I just put combo of grains -noodles included - in rice cooker & add nutritional yeast. When done. Works well. Any cracked shell egg gets added to rice pot, you can crush shell-throw that in the cooking dinner too. . I also add pinch of herbs from garden that are anti parasite…sage , thyme, etc.

Well you will find your egg production will slow way down after they are 2 years old. Add meat to their diet every day and they will lay well until 7 or 8 ☀️❤️☀️

A friend put some trimmings off an aloe Vera plant in with the scraps for the chickens and it killed them all overnight. They were all board stiff. I put some aloe Vera gel on my boxer s nose as he slightly touched a wood stove. He swelled up allergic. So aloe Vera might be good for people but can be lethal to some animals.

Another Excellent/Educational Video - Thanks! I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing, but I give my 3 chickens back their raw empty egg shells crushed so they don't look like whole eggs. In three years, I've never had a soft egg shell or eggs being eaten. The chickens do gobble them right up. Note: I watched all your videos when I first started with chickens - great info!

@@BeckysHomestead specially styrofoam! 😂 if you have Styrofoam blocks in your home foundation vents to keep out the cold from getting in your home or styrofoam as insulation in a garage. Anywhere there’s styrofoam those chickens will and do find it and will eat the styrofoam like candy! You think it make them sick, but doesn’t seem to bother them? Regardless I try my best to keep them away from any styrofoam I have around the property and get rid of any styrofoam that’s not needed or try putting wood or heavy plastic over the styrofoam where chickens will leave it alone!

This is a little off topic but what do you think would make a hen use a nest box as a latrine? My sister has a commercially built coop where all the nest boxes (5) are the same size. The other boxes are used to lay eggs in and the one used for bathroom is on the end but I have never seen or heard of that before. It’s a big pile and gross. Thanks for your thoughts.

One hen probably sleeps in there. Most often because she feels safe in there because the other chickens are mean to her, roost isn’t long enough, roost is to high or hard for her to jump up or down from☀️❤️☀️
