Data shows that obesity is on a rise in India. There are a few reasons that already make Indians fat but recent lifestyle changes are contributing to this existing problem and causing it to become a serious issue for us. At the same time, undernourishment is still prevalent in the country, so we have to fight two battles together.

my school only had 30 mins of PE period once a week. and when teachers were running behind and couldn’t complete teaching the syllabus, they used to take our PE, dance and other classes which involved physical activities. i believe school plays an important role in teaching us the importance of physical activities on a daily basis and they should allot more time towards physical education and activities.

One of the major factor of obesity among children between age of 16-18 years (especially science students) are these competitive exams they have to appear. As an 11th std student you are expected to be studying 6-7 hrs everyday plus attending classes for another 6hrs and continue this for 2years. With minimum to no social life ,you tend to develop exam anxiety, stress eating habits and even depression in some cases which completely messes you up mentally and physically. I think this is one of the major factor of obesity in most of the teenagers in India and would love for you to make a video addressing this issue

There is a difference between gaining some weight and being overweight. The stress of things like exams or competitions can make you a bit chubbier than you originally were, but it won't make you obese unless you are really not focusing on your meals. If any normal Indian eats roti sabzi or chawal on a daily basis, they would never become *overweight* .

One of the most important factors for obesity that he didn't mention is the intense pressure and competition the youth has to go to secure good college or marks. I'm a NEET aspirant and due to fierce competition for the few available seats we have to sacrifice everything soo much that we cant afford to go out and play for even an hour and secondly due to the excessive stress we often do stress eating or crave for sugary and fatty foods due to the cortisol which contributes to obesity .

For the one who wants to lose weight (though this is not a complete information because one must know how to control cravings and all but still the most basic factors are these:-): 1-Avoid processed foods and switch to natural sources for example replace sugar by honey / jaggery/ (thread)mishri. Remember replacing doesn't means you can eat how much you want, you have to control. Processed foods - refined flour, refined oil, refined sugar must be avoided. Use mustard / olive / coconut / sesame oil. The sugar rule applies here too.(say no to excess). 2- Avoid chips and all that are unhealthy, to figure out unhealthy checkout their ingredients I can't say what to check on the ingredients side but note that fatloss is no joke you must research for 2-3 days. 3- include exercise start doing lightly for approx 2 weeks(depends!) and increase intensity. Muscle building increases BMR therefore prefer doing calisthenics (body weight exercise) or join gym. Refer Chris heria (mine choice) for calisthenics. Do cardio everyday for example running or steps climb don't just walk. Yeah doing HIIT is good it increases your endurance and saves a bit of time. 4- Start eating foods that have all the macros Protein - Carbs - Fats - Fibre. Since you're in fatloss prefer having balanced meal(all macros) so that cravings are less. Do take piece of jaggery or tbsp of honey to fully complete the balanced meal. 5 - Reality. It's easy to get motivated through transformation videos but it's too hard to apply it. Not everyone can go through fat-loss you're exams or job might be a problem or so. But remember if you feel you're guilty by saying job is the problem in my transformation then make sure to arrange your time and keep some time for workout. If your feel guilty then checkout your lifestyle. Dedication must be there, you're not feeling to do those push-ups because or soreness or slight fever but if you do it neglecting about those excuses then that's what dedication is. Discipline, the ingredients aren't there at house but you have the money to buy it from the store then buy it and cook that meal and eat. That's what discipline is. This might be still less to start your journey so make sure do more research 😉. If your read this thank you🙏

I was 74kg just before my wedding, after 3 months of my wedding my weight jumped to 81kg. I am a fitness freak and I had decided to loose the excess fat but this decision took me 2 and a half year to put it in practice just because of laziness. after 2 months of work out and healthy diet I lost stored fat and gained muscle mass and 12% was my bodyfat % while 74kg weight .... then the laziness grabbed me again and now my weight is 76kg which is still puts me in overweight category according to my height and BMR. I have learnt that I became busy in earning money and lazy at the same time.

Major Reasons for the rising obesity is definately the screen time, Easy accessibility of Junk and Fast food and long study sessions which students in between 14-17 year olds have to take, I gave my Boards in 2022 and I gained almost 30 kgs in a span of 4 months just by sitting at home and craving for sweets and Spicy food. Right now I am 111 kgs and I've reduced 10 kgs in the last two months but still obesity needs to be taken seriously and as mohak bhaiya said, it should be considered as a "Disease"

"Khaate peete ghar ke ho" is a status symbol. Even when I am traveling, when everyone is busy admiring the landscape or the event, Indian families are busy ordering tons of food as if the main aim of traveling and earning is FOOD. Most of the other countries have already understood that being physically fit is the new status symbol because it requires natural foods and not packaged cheaper junk. This is perspective doesn't exist in India yet.

Some more solutions for obesity: 1) Encouraging parents not to keep brainwashing their children with "parhoge likhoge banoge nawab, khelogo khudoge banoge kharab". Instead encourage them to opt for sports activity that will help them tremendously in future. 2) Encouraging schools for a compulsory 1hr physical activity period everyday. Canteens should be regulated. 3) Long term ill effects of packaged food and sugary drinks should be widely taught. 4) A child follows his/her parents. Parents should lead by example. For instance morning jogs. 5) Homemade food should be encouraged. Rather than just relying on order food apps, people should try homemade food as much as possible.

Has to do with the lack of exercise culture in India. Every other Indian in their 40s or even 30s has a fat belly in metropolitans. Older generations must start implementing exercise routines as a part of life in young children which will later develop into a healthy habit in a child's life.

In India people practice overeating. If you go to someone's home they feed you more than you want to eat. Stress and bullying is a part of Indian culture and that also drives many people to overeat to cope with their situation. The solution to our problems is fixing our mental health and beliefs. Everything else will fall into place.

Stress eating is also a factor. We are one of the lowest countries in the world happiness index. Also I saw a comment saying that it is due to the body positive movement. What people fail to understand is that the body positive movement is not about saying that being overweight is healthy. It's saying that every single person deserves respect and no one deserves to be shamed for their body type. Also Mohak makes videos about things very few people talk about.👍👍👍

I think being overweight and being healthy can be two different things. Regardless of that, a functioning human needs 7-8 hours of moderate/6-7 hours of intense exercise regimen to be healthy. It is by the US department of health. Some people might find it difficult to shed those pounds for many reasons, genes being one, metabolism, pcod for girls, even people who have mental health disorders like depression, anxiety or OCD. The anti-depressants cause ton of weight gain. But one should find time to exercise. A 1 day rest shall suffice but rest of the days you need to exercise and that alone will increase anyone's longevity.

I would like to add a point as well. There is a misconception that weight gain is caused by fats, but the conversation around it doesn't always include the word 'excessive'.It's true that some kinds of fats are bad, but they are also the main source of taste in food. Therefore this misconception lead the public to ignore Sugar even though research has proven that it is quite addictive. I am obese and am trying to lose weight, so my friends recommended to eat low fat foods, but many of them contain extra sugar to compensate for the removal of fats. These products don't help in weight loss.

The problem is also increasing due to the "forced over body positivity". I have seen lot of obese and skinny people who are justifying that there's nothing wrong to be over or under weight, they're justifying these things in the name of body positivity. They over eat and even if their parents ask them to maintain their weight, exercise or become fit then also they start giving lecture on body positivity...just because you're being lazy to do workouts or exercise...you can't justify unhealthy things. See, acceptance is necessary but understand the difference...mostly parts of our body is unchangeable such as size of eyes, nose or lips etc so you should accept those unchangeable parts of your body but body fat/weight is changeable and you can change it by exercising, yoga or gym and body positivity is needed when you can't change your unchangeable body parts (I hope you understand my context)...Being over or under weight is not all healthy so don't give excuses of body positivity if changing yourself is in your hands!

We eat a lot more rice than we should and our sizes are increasing. Also we can observe the amount of oil consumption has skyrocketed in last 2 decades. We went from oil exporter to largest oil importer and it is not enough. We should bring in lot of healthier options, in our daily diet, hotels & also packaged foods. First we should start from ditching these so called healthy complan, horlicks & bournvita and go for traditional healthier ragi malt which at least have more fibre and other minerals.

Thank you so much for mentioning the point about how fat is distributed through Indian bodies. It's unfortunate that now the big booty body shape is being obsessively chased by women. No amount of squats can compensate for the fact that your body just doesn't store fat there and building that kind of muscle takes a lot of time, training, and commitment.

Its not just the packaged food. Most people of our parent's generation have also been obese although they don't consume packaged food. Indian diet is inherently carbohydrate rich and low in protein. Plus people who are vegetarians get most of their daily needs from only carbs & fats. It is possible to maintain a healthy diet being a vegetarian or vegan but that requires significant effort which nobody actually puts in.

I've been vegan for more than 5 years now. It's not really a struggle once you understand how to eat and what to avoid. I hit 100 grams of protein within 2000 calories quiet easily and can go further when I'm having an intense day in the gym. It's not harder once you get used to it.

_Body positivity as a movement, had good intentions._ Things changed when ppl took it in a wrong way. It was created for ppl like 1) a woman who had to get her 1 breast removed surgerically because of _Breast cancer_ 2) Man who got struck by lightning/caught in fire accident and have _scars_ (left behind) on his body. 3) ppl dealing with uncommon laughing/walking style, Baldness, stretch marks, facing racism because of skin color.. Incurable diseases like pcod, etc 4) Family genetics *Health is a Life Long Commitment. Never have I ever heard body positivity activists talk above mentioned things. Mostly it's about how being fat is good, eating junk makes the person happy so no one should be allowed to judge him/her by body shaming them. I've also heard people say "Exercising is fatphobic" 😂

Spreading awareness about physical health , fitness (not in terms of muscles) and curbing misleading ads can really help . Being a " overweight" myself i am working on these solutions but can't devote more than an hour to physical training due to competitive exams Hope to increase physical activities. But eating healthy is more important than only exercise.
