Why are Indian men LIKE THIS?

While on a walk at the beach or on the way to work, we see men holding hands all the time. This happens all around us and hence is not something that peaks our attention. But when Vincent Dolman, a British photographer noticed this on his trip to India, he found it to be very interesting and started documenting the same. It was something very alien to him and where he was from. So it begs the question, why do Indian Men hold hands and why is it not a universal phenomenon?

I think this is why western world is going crazy over RRR. The kind of bromance Indian films bring out is way too aspirational. They crave for somethimg like that, not being judged for showing affection. Friends had many scenes where Joey and Chandler hug, which is one of the reasons why the show crosses boundaries and generations and speaks to a larger audience. The whole non-sexual affection thing is so wholesome. Its great that such things are promoted in India.

last year when i would sleep, through my bedroom window, i would see a truck parked on the road every night. there used to be two men who would sleep in the lorry of that truck, most probably daily wage labourers. they would sleep and cuddle together, maybe they used to do it unknowingly in their sleep, or maybe they were actually in a relationship(which is quite rare) but the most probable reason i thought would be was loneliness, since they were here in the city, away from their homes and families, and the only love and affection that they could get could be from their friends. thank youu for making a video on this unique topic and helping to break the stereotypes of toxic masculinity.

Cuddling while sleeping for Indian man is also very common. Generally it is seen in case of Two brothers who share same bed. In my hostel life I have seen and also experienced this. We ware 3 roommates in a room. After few days of staying together we became closer to each other. We had jointed our 3 beds to make it a bigger one. While sleeping it is very common for us to put hands on other. Sometime we put legs on each other but unknowingly. We had shared blankets in winters and also cuddling each other. Though we avoid these practices in summer. These things are very very common for other hoteliers also. It is not at all sexual.. it is called "Bhai Bhai wala Pyar"....

I don't think so, in the west physical touch between opposite genders is considered normal were as in india its opposite, I think being comfortable with two opposite genders showing affection in public makes far more sense than being comfortable with same genders showing affection (fyi, I am not a homophobe).

What you said was absolutely true, the place where people are generally more openminded (like Mumbai or Bengaluru) you would find less men holding each others hands, as they have more interaction with females, with whom they can share their emotions, while in place like Delhi or some north Indian city there would be a lot of men holding hands( based on personal observations as being a mumbaikar I haven't seen many men holding each others hand while it was opposite in delhi)

Its pretty common in other South Asian countries like Pakistan too. It has something to do with our culture. There was a research done on films like Sholay etc and they were described to be having "homoerotic undertones". Obviously we see it only as a sign of strong friendship, companionship or camaraderie I should say.

I think the reason Sholay was described have homoerotic undertones because in west any kind male male interaction is considered to subtle hints of homosexuality in it.

I would like to share my experience: So I belong to a small village and it was very common to hold hands in my friend circle. When I came to big towns I got to know about homosexuality. Knowing about intimate relationship between men, I was so awkward after remembering those hand holding. When next time I went to my village, I was uncomfortable with them holding hands. Thanks for clearing this Mohak bro. Now I know that it's ok.🤭

We shouldn't be learning bad things from the west. For Westerners everything is sex. For Indians everything is spirituality. We should preserve that. And human contact like handshakes and hugs are very important to make bonds. Western men are insecure in their sexuality so make fun of everyone who is confident.

People with filthy minds sexualize and insult everything they don't like. People even call bad names to close siblings and even parents & children. They don't understand that there is a lot of emotions in this world other than sexual attraction. We all need one partner to love but to live a fully functional life, we need a lot of good friends and family members.

its cool buddy. nothing wrong if men do it. But people judge when it comes to helping your "better half" in household chores. This is due to patriarchy. Lots of boomer generation parents don't teach their boys this, as they have this mentality, that household chores are for girls, which is very wrong.
