    It only broke because she used it wrong. Basically you only need to extend it a tiny bit at a time. The double spring inside the body absorbs the pressure and protects the lead. Also the shaft extends to cover the protruding lead.

  • @benjones1458

    @@carlachance3470 maybe not with an ordinary mechanical pencil but this one relies on the fact that you don't have to extend the lead much. She clicked it too many times for it to protect the lead. Therefore ,carla chance, by definition she was in fact using it incorrectly as she was prohibiting it from doing its job by extending it far beyond what it says you should. At least try to have a competent argument.

    Ben Jones a mechanical pencil should be able to extend to whatever length you want it to. If Rin wanted it longer, it should be able to go more than one click without breaking. Besides, i think your over reacting a bit, Rin said it as a joke, people were just having a little fun.

E. Bridget if she clicks the top more than three times then if it breaks she shouldn't be surprised as it clearly states that it can't protect lead any further than that. The issues you were struggling with were because you were using an incredibly smooth surface with a art supply that requires somethign with a LOT more grip The reason why the pastel doesn't want to draw probably has to do with how they're prepared along with the incorrect paper you're using it with. The soft pastels need something to hold onto and get into other wise it'll just fall flat.

    Hey Waffles! As someone who has had a lot of experience with both pastels as well as charcoals - they’re super similar. Occasionally within your pastels/charcoal piece you’re going to fun into a point of it that just won’t take to your paper in any capacity. You can push through and pop it off or cut it off in some way and get back to your regularly scheduled art. So as a warning (I’m writing this about half way through the video) you’re going to need to seal the art with a spray otherwise it’s going to be just as messy for forever as when you made it. All in all, it’s a really valiant first attempt at pastels! I agree, they are frustrating but you’ve done really well! (Oh and the pen would work best on the pastels after the picture has been sealed properly!)

    Key to pastels, from what I remember from working with pastels back in the day: 1. Heavily textured paper, such as velour, rough watercolour paper, or specifically made pastel paper. 2. Mount the paper with masking tape to a board mounted in an easel, and set the easel to a forward position so excess powder drops to the floor (theres a reason it's called pastel "painting"). 3. Work large, 8x10 is really too small for this medium. 4. Start layering using a very soft touch. Hope that helps!

    The lead isn’t unbreakable because no lead is ever going to be unbreakable. The “unbreakable lead” is actually referring to the spring system that is in the pencil to avoid breakage. Of course this means you can’t put the lead too far out of the lead sleeve because that create tension points on the lead that will cause it to break regardless of the pencil. There are some really great videos by jet pens that explain it how the mechanism works, and they’re pretty cool but I personally find them better for writing than drawing, but that’s just my preference of course. I love your videos by the way! I just love your style and how it reflects differently with both your more realistic and cartoony styles, but it’s still clearly your work. It’s unique and interesting, and I’m always excited when your new videos come out.

    Some tips for you and anyone getting into pastels: you can use a lot of things for blending like paper towels, blending stumps and even brushes. If your pastels are on the cheaper side and you don't mind losing some of the material you can also try sharpening them slightly on sandpaper to achieve more precise lines. You can also buy pastels in pencil form so that they can be sharpened and held more comfortably without the wrist cramps and mess. Also if you use slightly textured paper the pigments will fade less with blending. (I'm in no way an expert on pastels but I do like using them)

    Idk about everyone else, but I find pastels kind of annoying to use unless I'm doing pictures involving just large areas of the same color, using the other colors for shading/lighting purposes. My favorite things to do are sunsets and smooth fruits (like apples, bananas, pears, etc) on cardstock or construction paper. I only got to use the paper made for pastels, for 10 pictures (because I got a pad of 10 pieces of the paper as a gift) and quite frankly, I found that any highly textured paper works fine. Don't try doing it on copy/printer paper or notebook paper; I already tried and it doesn't work at all. lol

    That artwork is great!! A few tips about the pastels (maybe, I’m still learning them myself!) If you have trouble putting them on the paper, you can try shaving a layer of them off with an x-acto knife or running it across scrap paper (I’ve noticed some have like a film on them, I do use a fairly cheap pack though. I’ve also noticed the problem occurs more really pigmented warm colors, not sure why though) Also, for blending especially is small areas, you can use eyeshadow applicators (Dollar Tree sells packs of 20) Also, I like to keep a rag nearby to wipe my hands off between colors (or wear old clothing & use them) Hope those help!!

  • @SpeedDemonStar

    @SpeedDemonStar

    5 жыл бұрын

    Blending stumps is what you're actually supposed to use for the small areas (you can get a bunch for cheap if you buy them in bulk of varied sizes). Also, for cleaning your hands (and some materials), I found that a combination of a dry old rag (like you said) then textured baby wipes (Huggies brand seem to work best for some reason) got rid of not just mess itself, but any staining of the skin too.

  • @SpeedDemonStar

    @SpeedDemonStar

    Thanks! I'm so glad I gave it another shot. I almost let my frusteration get to me. but I'm so so happy I came back to this. I really like the second one. almost enough to give pastels another try sometime. hehe

    I have a weird thing for pastels and I was kinda fangirling at how well they blend and the CoLouRs!

    I really enjoy pastels! They layer really well and give the kind of smooth effect I like. I’ve only ever really used the Sakura ones though. They’re not expensive and are pretty decent. Also I love your captions! I usually watch when my oh is asleep so I chuck the captions on and have the volume very low. So far yours are the best!

    Pastels are actually one of my favorite art supplies! I don't know much about them, but we used them in my art class once and I immediately bought my own pack bc they were so fun :3
