Why Am I in Larnaca, Cyprus? The Journey to Nicosia, & Question for my Subscribers 🇨🇾
I spend my first day in Cyprus wandering around Larnaca's calm and laid back streets on the Mediterranean Sea. I then take a bus journey to Nicosia, the last divided capital city in the world.
In this video I also asked a question regarding my vlogs being filmed on either my GoPro or Canon M50 setup. Both have their pros and cons, as I discussed. But most importantly, I'd really appreciate your feedback on this topic in the comments below. Drop a message and let me know your thoughts.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and KZreadr who's been to 53 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017. So far, my trips have taken me to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This trip marked the start of my efforts to make a KZread full-time job.
After that European trip I went heavily into exploring Asia, visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan (seeing me cover a lot of Far East and Southeast Asia in particular).
I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.
To date, I have not yet been to Australasia or South America. Though I am hoping to visit the latter sometime in 2022, along with a first stop in the Caribbean.
I've travelled to North America just once as a KZreadr, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.
So far in 2022, I've taken my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting both Kenya and Tanzania, before making my way to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai on my way to Lebanon. Europe followed, starting with Cyprus, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of the divided island.

Jason I watch all of your videos religiously. Your question with the GoPro I think it’s still very good quality, the changes between the cameras aren’t massively dramatic, but yeah overall use what your most comfortable with at the time. Cant wait for your summer adventures, will be watching the journey with you!

Hello! I just wanted to say that you can feel free to choose whichever camera works for your situation. The M50 is wow quality, but of course it’s not always practical. The go pro is just fine and I like the wide angle too. If you didn’t mention it I probably wouldn’t have noticed!
I'm from Larnaca, just got to see this by chance on KZread. Thanks for putting Cyprus back on the map.
Cyprus looks gorgeous, it's clearly a must-visit destination for travelers.

Great video Jason, love Greek Cypriots, I actually got married in Aya Nappa back in 1999. The Greek Cypriots are the friendliest people worldwide, met a family where the husband fought in the 1974 war with Turkey. Looking forward to seeing Nicosia again, arriving to a hotel in the middle of the night was quite eye opening, seeing the Turkish flag lit up on the mountainside. Not a nice thing to do really.

Larnaca is always the best place to start with Cyprus. Cozy and so accessible to the rest of the areas, before you dive into Nicosia and the leafy green countryside around Pathos.

Perfect. Thank you. Think I will continue to mix and match but use the GoPro more in the future when interacting with people.
As a Cypriot woman, I genuinely appreciate you using the right term to describe the situation in my country. Not many people know that only Turkey recognizes the occupied area as Turkish, so this is very respectful towards our ancestors 🙏🏻

He described the two sides as “Greek” and “Turkish” though which is wrong. If we say that the occupied area is “Turkish” this further divides the country and makes the situation permanent.

The sound and quality of the GoPro are fine. I appreciate the videos you shot with it that may not have been possible with your larger camera. Thanks for all that you do!😊
Thanks for another great video. I like the GoPro footage, keep using it! 💪
Lovely Video Jason. No problem filming with the Go pro. The result Always Fine.Your reason explained Very well. Super Excited to see more of Cyprus. Safe travels.☘✌.

Jason thank you for your video! :) Really enjoyed seeing the sights you showed in Cypress! :) I agree with all your thoughts on your cameras :) --- I like the GoPro although I do prefer it without the "fish bowl" effect :) --- I agree that using your higher quality camera to film certain structures and scenery is a good choice :) I like watching everything you film and everything you present has good quality :) I look forward to watching your next video showing the Greek side and the Turkish side of Nicosia :) Thank you! :) Cheers! :)
Was good meeting you in Larnaca, man! Great vid!
Great video as always love your look back to your teenage years
Jason, been following you for yonks. Dont worry too much about the quality of the camera, most of us here are interested in the quality of the content, and interesting things which we would love to see in person but we cannot. by the way thanks for opening our eyes to the world! Marc
Great video! Thank you for learning the correct information about the Cyprus situation. Next time you visit, you should come to my city, Limassol, which is a completely different energy 🙂 Best wishes ❤️

I'm here in Paphos, Cyprus atm, staying until November. Beautiful island! 😊
I love north Cyprus, the people are fantastic.
Loving your content, as always, I think the GoPro is fine, the only thing you need to watch is the speed you pan. Some times you pan a bit too fast and we miss things. Otherwise it is great and keep on keeping on. Can’t wait for you next vid.
Good Work! GoPro is good since it gives better feeling that I'm travelling along as you go.
Hi Jason your videos are great with yhe GoPro video camera. And the views areclear and crisp so the audio is really good too. Larnaca is a beautiful quaint city. It is like we are walking right along with you. Oh I missed that logo tip of your wave off your brow and the word peace.🙂

Hey Jason, I'm not a professional but I don't see any differences about the quality of your videos. Keep it up !
The remains of St Lazarus are still in the church. You walked by them. They are under glass near the front to the right. There is also an ancient crypt under the church.

Hi Jason - thanks for another video. I don’t mind the quality of the GoPro videos at all, especially when you are just out and about walking, which I really enjoy watching - it makes me feel like I’m there with you 😃. Video with your main camera is nice when you’re at a beautiful site, but to be honest, I don’t often notice when you switch between the two…
The GoPro is great, as is your your "clunkier" camera equipment. Your videos are AAAAA! The best!

I think a mix of GoPro and Canon is the way to go, as you say in your video, whatever makes you (and other people) feel more comfortable. Tbh I'm not too interested in the 'technical' aspect, I watch your vlogs for the content, the info you give, the people you meet, the sights you see... whether the picture/sound quality are perfect or not is not a dealbreaker for me... Looking forward to your Cyprus series as it's one of my next destinations 😄
larnaca was such a good time! and le mat is the most amazing hostel
The GoPro cameras are now far better than their earlier models, and my camera of choice for all my vlogs. Just small enough to fit in my handbag and relatively unobtrusive when filming. Much easier to manage, so keep using yours as the vlogs you produce are sogood and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for making them.

I love the go-pro! I can't perceive any sound or film quality deficits. I also think it yields more organic interactions with locals. But you're right -- context is important. Certain sights and experiences deserve a more cinematic treatment.
The Go-pro (I don't know if it is written that way) quality is 100% 👍👍👍 The quality of what we see and hear are very good. In a way it feels more natural, like as if one is kind of walking with you ....😁

OK with the GoPro. Very nice video.
Beautiful place ❤️
I am happy with your GoPro video quality. I think the GoPro is a smart choice in busy areas like central squares and markets. I don't know if you use an add-on microphone with your GoPro, but I'm pretty sure they are available. Your audio quality seems pretty good just the way it is. So give your self a break sometimes and quit lugging around that heavy and attention getting larger camera.
Your video of Larnaca brought me fond memories of my childhood. I lived there for for a few very happy years in the 80’ies . Beautiful place, wonderful people, many places of interest to visit! Kykkos Monastery, Troodos mountain, ancient sites in and around Paphos, beautiful beaches in Protaras and Ayia Napa to name just a few. In those days you could not cross to the Turkish occupied side. I’d love to return and visit Kyrenia, Ammochostos/Famagusta and the ancient site of Salamis. Coming to your question regarding go pro, I think the video quality is very good. Do you have the option to use a microphone connected to go pro via bluetooth? I think this would improve the sound quality. Out of interest, have you tried using your iphone camera to shoot videos? What was the experience like? Greetings from London!
@JasonBillamTravel
Жыл бұрын
Happy to hear that. It’s such a laid back town. As far as I’m aware the GoPro doesn’t have the option to attach a mic unless I’ve missed something. I’ll look into it. In the past I’ve used a few iPhone videos for shots out of the window on flights, and when I’ve been told I’m not allowed to bring my camera into an attraction, and that sort of thing. I don’t vlog on my iPhone but I can get away with using some b-roll footage to cover for moments when I can’t use my camera. No one usually notices.
Hi, great video as always;) IMHO, for youtube, GoPro (or other mini-cam) is fine. Also HD in stead of 4K is fine for me. Content is more important than quality. And keep in mind, using 4K will consume much more storage memory and upload time. Also 4K might cause noise when you move your camera, since much more data has to be processed; so 4K does not automatically mean more quality than HD. BTW, why did you decide to abandon your intro clip and music tune you used in your earlier videos, like those on Bangladesh?
Hi Jason, I think that your GoPro is good enough!

The GoPro quality is really great especially if it is going to allow you to film more without much trouble.
Thanks again for your video which includes lots of valuable information about Larnaca. I don’t feel a big difference in the quality of GoPro and Canon videos when I watch your KZread videos on my iPad. As you said it is much easier to film using a GoPro as it attracts less attention of the public while filming.
Watching now and perfect , I’m hoping you may visit the abandoned holiday resort that’s stood there in time . Amazing spooky place which I won’t say incase I spoil it for people cheers

Hi, Jason. You should go back to Lebanon since you cut your trip there so short. There are many touristic places you missed. I have been to Cyprus many years ago and loved Limassol.
I think the quality of the go pro is fine. I enjoyed Cyprus. We stayed at Larnaca in a hotel opposite St. Lazarus Church. Nice room, great view, too noisy. We rented a car and drove around the island and went to Nicosia including crossing to the Turkish side. Very interesting.

Good to know. Can’t wait to share the border crossing video!
Great video - its always a positive to get a place like Larnaca some exposure... just a few notes: You must've been sweating like crazy walking around with 2 backpacks on....that was chicken souvlaki in video not souvla and also you didn't show much of Larnaca - there's a nice strip alongside the Finikoudes beach with nice fish restaurants and cafes......larnaca to nicosia normally takes 25-30 minutes by car- maybe the bus was going slow or it had a few stops along the way
The land grab/Turkish occupation is very clear just by looking at the two maps you posted of the Cypriot population before and after the Turkish invasion. Thanks. Very nice vlog.
wow im from philippines and i love to vlogs corner to corner here in cyprus there a lots of interesting places, the most intereting are the castles some others are distoryed by the wars and parts they repair to stay remain for ruins i love to roam around to have vlogs, ive bee in lebanon for 5years also last 2004 up to 2009
Just to let you know what we use. Very much like yourself we use a better camera for capturing footage of say, a castle or such like and that camera is a Canon EOS M3 and then for ease of use for quick videos where we need to move around a lot we use a Firefly 8SE, which is also very useful for time lapse.
Gopro video quality good enough i think !! i didnt see a big difference in quality !! And also if its easier use why not ? Carry on with gopro bro :)...Night time u can use iphone visuals
Everything with the gopro seems fine to me. Maybe a little more stabilization is needed, but even as it is it's good. The sound quality is also fine.
Great video 👏. Just one coreection the map you showed at the begginig is in accurate . It shows ayia napa and paralimni as part of the occupied area
I am jealous you are seeing the world. I have not a huge interest in places outside of Europe as a single older guy but I am jealous. Good luck.
Thank you so much, you have captured some of the beauty of Larnaca. Looking forward to seeing more of Cyprus. When will you be adding more videos of different towns? Our Cyprus is a beautiful island which has been illegally occupied by the Turkish Government since 1974, so i just wanted to add that any reference to the North of Cyprus should be referred to as the 'illegally occupied side" and not the Turkish side. Thank you!

@@sercaneker8243 1) It's illegal by the UN. 2) Turks did the same and worse especialy during the invasion. 3) Guarantor doesn't mean you can invade and illegally occupy 1/3 of the island with military force. This is not a guarantor, it's an invader. 4) You mean turkish-cypriots, not turks.
