I bet a lot of riders have this issue but would never admit to it! Without a purpose/destination riding becomes nothing more than a chore. I find I am going out less and less because I am bored of the same routes, unpredictable weather and no destination. Motorcycle camping is a great activity but it is something that requires a lot more time and thought. Coffee shops, biker events, churches, yet explored villages are all great destinations but you can quickly exhaust those too. Difficult one really. Thanks

Then I childishly played a game of opening a map, closing my eyes and stick a pin in. Wherever it landed I HAD to ride there. Depending on the distance it was either a day ride or a b&b. The funny thing is that the destinations such as Walsall, Preston, Chatham, Leicester etc turned out to be the most fun! I empathise. I returned to biking about 25 years ago in my 40s and hooked up with a few other local guys for rideouts to cafes, pubs, beauty spots etc often ending up chatting to other bikers about what? Bikes! I quickly got bored of it and felt the need for a purpose to the ride, like visiting friends, family, collecting something I'd bought on eBay etc. Roll forward 25 years and I discovered blood bikes here in Powys and l'm now a volunteer rider so I get to ride one of their bikes all over Powys and into Herefordshire and Shropshire burning fossil fuel for a worthwhile purpose instead of riding round in circles just for the sake of it. I also use my own bike for visiting my kids who are 50 and 70 miles away. I've got a Himalayan which I'm about to sell as it's being replaced by a CB500x and they're both 80+mpg bikes so there's a saving on CO2 etc and cash. Happy days.

Anyway, a planned trip to Dartmoor would be better on the VFR and once you've been there too many times you would feel bored and think what the hell am I doing? That's probably why you turned around. I have three bikes that I’ve owned for over 30years and I’ve pretty much rebuilt all of them, riding takes on a completely different dimension when you’ve put your heart, blood sweat and tears into them. You have a huge sense of fulfilment and understanding them mechanically instills a wonderment that they can move you down the road at all!! Non of my bikes were seen as desirable when I bought them (1975 Voskhod 175, 1988 CZ350, 1978 Triumph Tiger) so were very very cheap. The Voskhod was touted by the press as being the worst motorcycle in the world at the time but I love every minute I ride it!!! I always like to have a purpose or a destination when riding, sisnce getting my new bike I have gone on a few rides where there was no direction or bacon sarnie at the end and although I enjoyed riding, those rides are not for me and I find them frustrating sometimes. Go places, you got the VFR to do that, so go do it. You live in a stunning part of the world and so many places are within the reach of the VFR even if you only have a few hours spare. Dartmoor is very lovely, but so are all the other nooks and crannies along the coast.... or just head south or west. I am hugely envious of your playground 🙂 Biking stagnates quite quickly if you do the same over and over, and although I love riding solo, it is also really nice to ride with mates too, or at least meet up with them. It is one of the reasons I like the bike night at the West Beach Cafe, I get a nice spin on the bike, good food and get to hang out with Phil or Pez or whoever is free that eve. I nearly quit biking as it all stagnated for me too in around 2013/2014 after a Europe trip on the bike, the UK just seemed dull... but I got my love back by going places to see things I wanted to see and finding good biking routes to get to them. Am sure you'll snap out of the funk if you can give it some purpose.

Turning down the missus for a bike ride, then making a video about being bored of riding? Sounds like there’s something else you need to work through here mate.

@Pommo70 let me guess. You have a sports bike and wash it more than you ride it?

Absolutely not. I ride a Triumph Thunderbird and I do get what your saying but what I’ve realised (through being socially awkward) is that if you ride on your own, then you probably need something exhilarating or exciting to raise your heart rate a little and make the same roads a little more exciting. Go on a test ride on a much quicker bike along the same roads, then come back and say you’re bored of riding.

@Pommo70 I was only giving you back a bit of banter. I also have a Honda vfr800fi. I bought it because I was getting bored of the himalayan. It made me appreciate the Himalayan more. I think I should just use the himalayan for exploring the lanes and the vfr for rides like the one in this video.

@@EpicAdamMotovlogs No probs with the banter, I love the VFR, nothing like the V4 sound. You should ride that more. FAST. 😂 I hope this feeling of getting bored passes for you because we need more motorcyclists, not less.

411, apologies, What's your other bike, last bike I bought was the older cb500, I came to really like it, you could ride it like a tourer and if needed it would lift it's skirt and go, good for when jack the lad is troublesome and you can just pass the car Infront and he can't.
