Why Alice Cooper got sober
Ойын-сауық
Wishing a happy 75th birthday to Alice Cooper, the godfather of Shock Rock! ⚡️
For over five decades, he’s been entertaining the world with his wild on-stage antics and hauntingly catchy tracks. I still remember this part of our chat when he opened up about the duality of his persona and the initial reason behind his sobriety.

Love the way George interviews him.. Asks all the right questions and allows Alice Cooper to answer without interrupting, you can tell that he is genuinely interested and actually listening to what he has to say, rather than just treating it like it's his job. A drinker ends up surrounded by other drinkers and his own drinking seems moderate in comparison to the heaviest drinkers in his circle. That phenomenon makes it understandable that it can take awhile to recognize that your drinking has become a problem and that it will get worse unless you decide to deal with it.

I would drink in my sleep. Yep. Passout, wake up drink. I lost everything because of booze and blow. Restaurant, car, girlfriend of 7 yrs, dignity. All gone. The 80's were fun until you get the bill. Sadly that’s the way my husband died. He was only 35. His death still haunts me wishing I could have done more. Our son was 7 and never really knew his dad. He is the one who is still hurting. No dad for him at graduation from high school and college. No dad at his wedding. No dad for his first and only son. He’s carried a heavy weight all these years. It’s been hard for him being around his friends that have dads in their life. He’s a good man, a loving husband and a proud dad. I’m extremely proud of him. I say to often….if only. I lost my nephew a little over a year ago. He was like my 2nd son. He lived with me and my mom when I was caring for her before she passed away. He had been rejected by his own mom for basically all of his life. He had been rejected by her again a week before. When his girlfriend went to his house he had already had a bottle of Vodka and was doing Coke. He decided to show her how a friend of his committed suicide in high school. I’d heard that story so many times from him. He got up, walked into the bedroom and got a 9mm. She never saw the gun until he pulled it out from under his leg. He placed it under his neck and pulled the trigger. He didn’t realize he had already chambered a shell. My brother was in Cozumel on a diving expedition. He was by himself when he got the call. Josh was 33. He was full of love. Our relationship was like a mom and a son and now he’s gone. I’d never seen my brother so broken before. Still to this day he’s a broken man trying to escape by working for our country. That keeps him busy and I’m glad. My son held me up for almost two weeks before I could drive home. Life will never be the same anymore. Not ever. Thank God I still have him. I still cry every day. If anyone has a drinking problem please look at your family and ask yourself if it’s worth it. Trust me. I can tell you it’s not. The pain never goes away. I wouldn’t want that for anyone. Please stop. Your family needs you. 💔💔💔

I just remembered when I was working in my 20’s someone told me then that I should write a book. I just laughed. Actually, I did laugh a lot. I didn’t take life as serious as I should have. I honestly never thought I’d live this long. I really thought I’d pass away by the time I was 25 but I’m still here. I’m not strong. I simply go thru the motions. I see a lot of strong people stronger than myself. This has pulled up a lot of painful memories. Not from you. It’s me. When someone I know passes away I don’t deal with it too well. I’ve never thought about being a counselor. I don’t know if I could do that. I’m an empath. I take peoples problems home with me and I cry. I can assure every single person I would talk to would have me in tears so instead I have a paralegal degree. I do think there’s something odd about me thou. Strangers will come up to me when they’re hurting and they just need someone to talk to. Whatever their situation I stop and listen. Again, I’d end up crying with them and for then when I got home. I can’t see your comment to answer or respond to anything else you said but I do want you to know how sweet that was of you to leave that comment. I really do appreciate it. Be glad you don’t know the rest of my story. There were some good times but there was a multitude of bad. I just go thru the motions. That guy had a rough time and went off the rails when his little girl was killed on her way to preschool...hence the album So What. I watched him suffer all of that time. No Eagles fan but that was a refuge that he needed. Joe finally got sober when one day he was getting plowed in California, then woke up on a plane landing at Charles DeGaulle Airport in France. “From the Inside” - one of his best albums
George manages interviews so well. Always direct but thoughtful and kind. Great questions and great tone so it’s open and safe. What a great job.
Alice is amazing and still rocks my world. I have so much fun at his concerts. He is the nicest person in the world. Great job getting and staying sober✨️💖✨️
I never really got into Alice Cooper but the guy makes a lot of sense

I love you Alice! So glad you are still making music! 🎸🎸
