I did the functional test of fuel jettison on a B777-300ER yesterday. It has 3 switches. Armed switch, left and right jettison valve switches.

Thanks for the effort Deniz! Dreamliner is definitely in our plans.

In case of a medical emergency where a passenger needs ground assistance, who makes the call to circle and dump fuel with the amount of time it takes and risk the person dying, or go ahead and do an overweight landing and risk permanently damaging the land? Have airlines (and I assume their attorneys/bean counters) already prepondered that decision? What if or have they already been sued from a case like this?

Fuel will evaporate in the air.

Is it really necessary to return to the airport? An aircraft can fly with extended landing gear? I think it is much cheaper to continue the trip rather than dump such amounts of fuel.

You’ll never make it with the gear hanging. Too much drag. FMC fuel burn calculations are for clean configuration only
