    I understand why the DFB choose Nike given the much better offer. However as a German I think it’s quite sad that we have two of the three biggest sports apparel manufacturers in our country and yet our most important national team is going to be supplied by an American company. I'm supprised that no one is mentioning that Nike is positioned very well to become a monopoly in the sports ware space, and that outcome will definitely not be positive for the fans or the teams, and organisations that they sign contracts with. We can already see the ways in which Nike has used their position to dilute and damage the images of sports teams and leagues in the US. The abysmal NBA jurseys for example, which are poor quality and suffer from frequent tears, and where they have flooded the market with so many alternate and anniversary jerseys. I hope that we can all see and notice the ways in which Nike has already begun cutting corners and that they will only do so more agrresively once they control even more of the market.

    „Three more world cups followed in adidas shirts“ That is not true. The 75 years partnership refers to the shoes. Until 1963 leuze was supplying the kits then umbro. Erima was supplying the kits for the world cup 74 and 78 while adidas gave them jackets shoes…, but adidas bought erima in 1976. The stripes and logo are only on the shirts since 80s. Its because of that common misconception that the whole thing was such a big deal in tbe first place.

    Before the 1980s, Adidas was not the official kit supplier for World Cup teams. Teams like West Germany wore Adidas shoes and had Adidas as a sponsor, but other companies supplied the kits. In the 1970s, Adidas acquired Erima, which supplied kits for the World Cup before Adidas branding became prominent on shirts. In the 1980s and onwards, Adidas began to feature its logo and the iconic three stripes on official team shirts for the World Cup. Adidas' involvement with the World Cup spans many years, but the distinct branding with the three stripes and logo on team shirts started to consistently appear from the 1980s onwards. Prior to this, while Adidas may have been involved through footwear and sponsorship, the kits were not branded as Adidas.

    Which is trash, sorry mate! The german philosophy is just different....be as humble as possible and put ALWAYS the team in front! Of course, they hadnt had as many OFFENSIVELY INDIVIDUAL stars like Brazil, but you're a hater, if you tell me, that Neuer, Lahm, Podolski, Klose, Schweinsteiger, Ballack, (Jerome)Boateng, Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels, Toni Kroos, Mesut Özil, Sami Khedira and many more weren't stars. The main difference is, that Nike, as mentioned in the video, promotes the individual player, which often promotes himself as well(as CR7, Neymar, aso) in stark contrast to Adidas, which promotes especially the german national team in a different and lower way! As well as the german players just normally have the character to promote themselves via behaviour and appearance, besides of course Ads! Greetings from Germany :)

    I think what most people who are not from germany dont understand are the insane feelings that are associated with football in germany. its hard to explain really but its the same reason why we dont want our clubs to become puppets of countries or billionaires like city, chelsea and so on......football belongs to the people, at least thats the main thinking in germany.....adidas has a different standing then nike, it feels more like a capital(NIKE) driven move rather then beeing driven by emotions(ADIDAS) if that makes sense.....really hard for me to find the right words in english tbh..... its justified that the DFB took the nike deal on a financial basis, no discussion there, but its still extremly sad for me as a german to see this happen.....we just managed to stop the investment of an american company in the bundesliag itself and now this, just 2 months before the EUROS.....sad but still acceptable......dont think the DFB will do a lot of good with that extra money tbh, so sad the biggest football association is beeing led by a bunch of noobs......

    Even a German basketball legend like Dirk was with Nike and some of the current Germany player in the NBA like Daniel Theis and Franz Wagner is with Nike. I don't have the current Adidas basketball shoes but in my opinion they look better than the Nikes and Jordans, also people said they perform better than those two. But we can't ignore the fact that they are lackluster in signing player, even Nike got Sabrina from WNBA and the fact that now LeBron is more cemented to Liverpool. Adidas can't even signed a former NBA Finals MVP and European superstar Nikola Jokic (he recently signed with a Chinese company 361⁰ after his contract with Nike), I imagine European would be crazy if Jokic had a signature shoes with the biggest European sports brand. Heck, even European stars are with another brand such as Giannis (Nike), Luka (Jordan), Markkanen (Nike), Sabonis (Nike), Gobert (Nike) and even the rookie sensation Wembanyama (Nike). Meanwhile Adidas signature athlete are all American (Lillard, Mitchell, Rose, Harden, Edwards,Young), which Americans are leaning to buy Nike anyways.

All because many Germans still hold Anti American views as we stopped your crazy, zealous, grandparents 8 decades ago. We propped up your post war economy and yet you are too proud to buy American LNG or soccer tshirts, but had no qualms buying from the country that annihilated your wack 6th Army. In this respect, the DFB did not behave respectfully towards Adidas. However, I don't think Adidas would have made a counteroffer that was twice as high as their own (55 million). Adidas was probably too sure because of the long time with the DFB.

  • @ivaneurope
    @ivaneuropeАй бұрын

    Adidas took the DFB for granted and believed that Germany will never accept an offer from a rival (even Puma) even if the rival offer is financially better for 'national pride' reasons. The offer Nike had put on the table was significantly bigger than what Adidas was wanting to shell out and was impossible to refuse. We should not forget the underhanded tactics like government officials intevening to push the DFB accepting offer from Adidas which were of LESSER value than what Nike was offering. This is karma years in the making and Adidas can blame no one but themselves - the DFB did nothing wrong.

    Quite the opposite, I think. Adidas has let a bunch of shirt deals with smaller to medium clubs (also a significant amount of german teams) run out and decided to only pursue the biggest in the business. This is fine in itself but then offering less than half of what your main competitor does, is a thing I just can't wrap my head around. Besides, the only political messaging brought into that decision is coming from people who would rather want the DFB to have stayed with Adidas. The change to Nike was a sound financial decision without political implications

    I recognise money is the ultimate driver in this move, however, sometimes clubs/countries and kit makers can only go so far and as a result designs become either uninspiring or unconvincing. I noticed this with France and their relationship with Adidas. Through the 70s and 80s they had some of the most iconic kits and the 1998 strip is a classic. From 98 they had so many nice looking kits but none of them made an impact. They just seemed to come and go. I don't think France have had a classic kit since they went to Nike, however, all of the designs to press have shaken things up. The kit hasn't been all about how you move around rigid white lines and where you place the red or the white on the kit. Remember in recent years France have had purely blue tops. Two other teams that could do with a shake up are Spain and Brazil. Spain's kits with adidas have become very pedestrian. I don't think Brazil have had a classic Nike kit since the early 2000s. The truth is it's all about the money. Take England, they are never going back to Umbro.....and Umbro aren't even an English company any more.

I´m even willing to bet that there will be many who boycott the new jerseys just because its not addidas which will be ME included. The DFB has a money problem and for years now try to get more lucrativ on german sport always with talks bout should we lift the 50 +1 rule and crap like that but then fail with the national team management. Great video and great points. But i dont see what the fans would have from a different sponsor. Shirts arent gonna look much better and the sport wont be played differently.... Its surely lucrative for dfb and nike tho

    Adidas makes 'affordable' apparel and footwear. Nike makes better apparel and footwear, although in recent years it seems all major apparel and footwear makers seem to be opting for less quality materials (think Nike Metcon 4s versus current Metcon 9s). It seems that Nike just has more cash to spend than Adidas and Adidas is reluctant to spend what cash it has.
