I worked on original SG1, Atlantis and on almost all seasons of Andromeda. The Standard Definition 4:3 aspect ratio days were great. Plenty of work. The format of each show dictated by the need for syndication. Everyone wanted shows that could be aired out of order and for every 30 minutes of narration, 8 minutes had to be dedicated to commercials. Characters had to pause a lot, suspensefully, to give breaking points for the network editors. The rest was total creative freedom. CG opened up opportunities to plots considered unfilmable in the past. It was cheaper to illustrate concepts, so a huge backlog of those original ideas poured though, resulting in an golden age of sci-fi back when CGI wasn't even quite ready yet. As for Claudia Black - I don't think Farscape would've been successful without her. All the 90's sci-fi had so many amazing women. SG1 had plenty of interesting guest stars. Vanessa Angel - another good one. I was fresh out of film school and had a crush on everyone I got to work with. It was unbelievable, being on the other side of the screen. And that's before internet video. Back when TV still mattered. Back when there was nothing more interesting that films and music videos.

@@enilenis I grew up on the original SG1 Star Trek enterprise est Andromeda I spent my childhood watching 90s sci-fi and fancy shows and I will tell you this most modern fancy and sci-fi shows suck ass however there are rare gems like Stranger Things and the Mando

Facts

I feel like Babylon 5 and SG1 would flop today if they were a fresh/new IP. Mind you, I love B5, but its mostly through the glasses of nostalgia that I can see the good stuff about how they question good and evil, about getting past war and past hatred, how some can, some can't... but then I try to watch an episode or two again and I see the bad stuff that nostalgia forgot about... haha. In a time when there was limited access to ANY scifi/fantasy, its easier to accept campy/bad scifi/fantasy.

Good SFX are worthless if the story is crap. See Disney Star Wars. If you're going to do "what if it were released today.." then most of the shows you're so fond of wouldn't exist. B5 laid the ground for long format story telling. Shows like Breaking Bad wouldn't exist or even GoT. They'd be a mini series one and done, not a multi season TV show.

Fun content, but your sound production needs a lot of work. It would also be a better presentation if you wrote a script and edited it a couple of times, it seems like you are speaking off the cuff or this us a first draft. Look up "room tone"
