Why 86% Of Musicians Will Never Become Successful | Are You One Of THEM?!

Let's be honest, most musician fail to turn music into a career and it's not because they lack the musical ability. You might think I'm going to say that they fail because they don't understand marketing, but that's not even it. The root of the problem is far deeper than talent or marketing systems and it's heartbreaking because it can be avoided completely. The issue is that most people don't even know that they're part of the problem so that they can snap out of it and get back on track. This video will trigger some people and that's ok. It needed to be said.

I've been all three unfortunately. something clicked for me recently though about how much this is MINDSET over everything. its not just marketing, good music, dedication, but literally shifting your mind to not be fearful and take risks. if you don't, then you don't want it bad enough and its not a priority. I've got a long way to go but so thankful for your brutal honesty and content, thanks.

Thank you for the genuine video, Adam! I have been doing instrumental music covers since last year, and I am trying to figure out how to have a bit more exposure to get more people finding my videos because this instrument is not well-known compared to others out there 🤔 I am trying to catch up with the music in the trend but it's also tough to find something that is compatible with my instrument.. maybe that will be a learning curve for me to educate myself to get better?

I am a self produced musician, and write my own music... For the longest time, I was taking the time to share my music with everyone, WAY before it was ready to be shown.. what im trying to say is, i was looking for outside validation... for 3 years, i was on this outside validation path.... and just recently, within the last 2 months, i told myself... "what the fuck? im the only one that matters... why do i search for outside validation?" I pulled all my music... and refocused.. I took action, 2 months ago... I decided to book a show... not only that, but i decided to get off the couch, change my diet, and suit up... I am stoked for November 19th, as its my first show as a solo artist.. and just today, i booked 4 more shows... here we go!! thank you Adam.

Figured out an even better process to write music. Step Zero.... Make sure the click track does not have an ABBB pattern, make sure it only has an AAAA pattern so that you can make up your own time signatures and tempos without an evil dictator killing your music. Step 1. Slide Show... Picture of first verse. Picture of Chorus. Picture of second verse. Picture of Chorus. Picture of change up. Picture of Chorus. Picture of ending.... (Use markers to title each part as you go) For example if the first verse was... Picture of a Girl crying her eyes out... Step 2. Accapella instrumental to the pictures. Girl crying her eyes out.... You make the instrumental sound sad, upset, anything that matches that mood.... Do the same for all the other pictures... Complete all accapella instrumentals... Step 3. Drum all the parts on a table... practice pads... what ever... Step 4. Use EZ Drummer to program all your tapping into real live drums... Step 4. Record guitar. Step 5. Record Bass. Step 6. Record Vocals. Step 7. Record synth or extra parts... Step 8. Mix. Step 9. Master. Step 10. Video. Complete. Use the circle of fifths to chose Chord Progression and Key Changes.... or you can pick from many Chord Progressions online Via Google... Chord Progressions cant be copyrighted....

I figured the accapella part from Steve T, he gave me that idea... Slide Shows gave me the idea to direct the composition. I always Said anyone can cover a Guns In Roses song, nobody can WRITE IT ON THEIR OWN... But technically, all music is cover music, your covering the songs you think up in your head, so get that mic hot and ready and go flap your lips and toung to your imagination in your BRAIN... Then... Glenn helped me at spectrum sound studios.... KZread HIM!!!!! The reason you want to make sure your click track is set to mono tone is obvious. The reason you use pictures instead of lyrics, you have full and total freedom to keep the indtrumental ON SUBJECT!!!!! When you go to write the lyrics.... focus only on the phrasing.... babble.... use the word BANANA... what ever it takes to get the phrasing down.... only once thats good.... do you write THE WORDS!!!!! Broad to detail.... Thats how its done.... When you use this process... You cant go wrong... Opportunity meets prepardness is luck. You want to go to GREAT heights... Thats the best process I got... Takes less than 1 day to complete and kills all writers block... I gave it away for free because I want a Rock revival.... FUCK RAP AND PRE RECORDED AUDIO!!!!!! MASS PRODUCTION IS POSSIBLE FOR US!!!! WE CAN FLOOD THE STREAM!!!!!

Don’t give up!!! All musicians go through this. I’m a 70 year old professional musician ( drummer) and still go over things in my head after a gig and think,….ok, what could I have done better? Every time you go up there at a open mic or a gig you’ll have more knowledge and that’ll help each performance. Also watch other musicians at open mic or gigs and see what works or doesn’t work on stage. Keep doing it ,practice, and have fun! 🥁🎶

After 15 years of recording 23 years of studying music, I have learned a few things. What this guy says is the basics of being correct, but its just the tip of the ice burg. When you pursue the damn near impossible be prepared to spend every waking moment dedicating your life to achieving that gole. On the outside you see the hype, you see the videos, the advertisments, the success, the stars, and beyond. But what you dont see is what it took to get there.... In music, there are loads of deceptions and misinformation out there... Its easy to get sucked into the sess pool of bullshit and lies.... and quickly... The reality is, your going to need education, practice, limitless hours of training, and none of it is easy at first.. As a rock musician, your building blisters on your hands with sticks and strings.... it hurts.... drummers.... you know the blood blisters.... Guitarists can play until their fingers bleed.... The reality is, if you dont enjoy sitting down and playing with noise no matter the cost, your not cut out for the job... I reccomend learning more than one instrument.... But as soon as you go chasing that dream... Your busted... Your parents are going to stop you... Your teachers are going to hate you.... Your friends wont tollerate it.... The fact is, the time you spend doing free time things... It all goes to the music... Its a lonely life... And good luck finding band mates in the age of RAP!!!!! and pre recorded audio... It just Sucks because your most likely to start out a jack of all trades... for lack of recruited hands because nobody wants to play REAL MUSIC anymore.... You will likely spend thousands of dollars and countless time on the side of the road as a guy who lives in your car.... Hard to rent a place when your lugging music equipment around.... most land lords renting bed rooms hate that... You have to find quiet methods to record shit demo after shit demo.... Trust me.... your going to sound like shit until you get THE PROCESS of writing and recording DOWN.... as well as mixing and mastering... Its a cryptic art... It took me 15 years to perfect my process with the help of Glenn, Chris Lipe, Jarod Dines, Steve T, Leo, and Mixcraft Master class.... I posted my process below... This gets easy.... but its the furthest thing standing from easy.... Unless your rich and you can pay for a high education on this and your smart enough to figure this out.... You will be lucky if you write something worth everyones time... Education is everything...

I think a big part of that insecurity is just being too worried about what people I know will think of different things as I experiment - will they think poorly of me? "A little bit of action takes a little bit of result..." YES... After years of being fucking afraid of sharing my music with people I streamed a couple of my songs on twitch and when a person asked if they were on Spotify I told them I was working on it because being a Mexican living in Mexico working a Mexican job it's nearly impossible to pay for copyrighting and even also the 20 bucks DistroKid charges you for a year... 10 seconds after a girl donated 100 dollars marked as "spotify fund" and then another one with another 10. A couple of days after, I made my DistroKid account and posted my song... Not even a full day passed and I suddenly had 1k dollars in my PayPal account, which actually made me a little scared because I have never seen that much money in my bank account in my life. I messaged this person and they told me that their friends and their girl liked it and told me to continue doing what do, I promised that person the money will go into making more music... Sometimes you just gotta move.

A couple of pointers you forgot: 1. If you get 🔥 fired from a band, do NOT take it personally, I’ve been fired before and it was a blessing in disguise. I’m now my own one man band and hopefully it will become an actual band one day where EVERYONE respects each other. 2. Do NOT give up practicing AFTER you get fired, this is a BIGGIE. 3. If you DO get 🔥fired, connect with OTHER outside musicians looking for new musicians. Can’t tell you how WONDERFUL it is. ….and for the record, I’m saving up for a $1400 guitar 🎸 starting today. When I reach my goal, I’m hoping for the Violet blue burst.

I take a lot of effort for my music. My music blew up in 2016 and unfortunately i had to take a long break from independent music. Now that I have come back to it, I am investing my money, time and energy into it. I have around 30 to 40 songs yet to release. I am running out of money. I need help. Mentally and emotionally.

I've been there, not investing in your craft and expect to become the GOAT is just dum. But I have to say it's not the only problem. In fact there are hundreds of problems on your way to sucsess. Get to know what's the problem for you right now and solve it. Thats the part of your career. For example my problem for now is social anxiety and it's not even about music, but if I won't do anything about it then I won't grow as an artist.

Im definitely in the first group. For a long time i gave up on my dream bc my father always told me i wasnt good enough and then i thought like this too even though many told me i had a great voice (without me asking for a feedback, so i guess there had to be some kind of truth in there). Ive never tried it and kinda regret it, now i think im too old as well (all these newcomers are barely 18). I think Im just scared to humiliate myself and overwhelmed and dont know where to start. I always just wrote songs and sang along but never properly recorded and produced them bc i just dont know where i should start and sharing is so scary. 🙈

I was in the music biz for over 30 years. There are so many reasons some dont "make it" And its not all about talent. Lets talk about the sheer number of submissions record companies get. Now they really only pay attention to the music being submitted by credible sources( managers, attorneys, agents etc) There are a huge amount of those submitting. So who do you think gets priority? Your demo submission generally goes into the garbage or at best gets listed to by an intern which if they like it may pass it on. Then the A/R guys are so scared about losing their jobs if they sign the wrong artist that they go with whatevers the safest. Ive talked to a few AR guys and they would tell me I wanted to sign that band but my boss liked this other band. Lots of great talent that could have been signed if someone had the balls. No one wanted to lose their jobs. Most record companies have a few big acts that pay for the majority of their acts that dont generate $$. But that was back in the day. Now its worse. That shouldnt stop one from dreaming though. Anything is possible.

I am going to be honest, the tracks i have put out i did not bother to master. But i have taken the time with the tracks i have coming out tomorrow, the difference is apparent. EQ and compression is important but you do not need to spend money on it. Guys like Adam ivy give great content and info. And there are plenty of others that do daw videos and mastering on your daw of choice

These goals are SO important. I constantly have goals and investment. Lots of time investment to reach those goals. Lots of time to invest to make great connections that will help performances on my concert pieces. While I have improved on all of my fear this year, I will continue to work on avoiding anxiety and procrastination. I've seen great connections being formed and amazing new opportunities being opened for me since I decided to take the risk, even if I was unsure of it was going to work out. I am slowly perfecting both music and KZread, and I am seeing improvements in both! Thank you for making this video, as it does help keep things in perspective!

My plan of action right now is to make about 4 or 5 songs that I put a lot of energy into, and start focusing on promotion once they're all out. After I have put all of my energy into promotion for a bit, I will release my best song so far which I believe in the most, to see if it pops off. Good plan or nah?
