I’m from Tianjin, gotta say you explained the former concessions very accurately without losing the vibe of the Khanubis channel’s videos & inside jokes only long time viewers of your videos will get. Great job, I approve 👍

As a native of Tianjin, I'd say that the old Tianjin concession area is still the golden area of Tianjin, with the highest housing prices and the best living standards.

Oh God, I play EU4 far too much. I recognised that grain icon!
Respect at 5:31 for highlighting French Giana when showing the European borders. I bet that added a couple extra minutes of editing.
Your animations continue to get better and better. Well done!
I've heard about the concessions in Tianjin, but this is the first time someone explained them to me. Although this might be a bit nit-picky, the flag you used for Austria-Hungary is not the national flag of the nation. That flag is the civil ensign (what they use on civilian boats) and is very different from the national flag.

except, Austria hungary did not have an overarching national flag, and they used the Austrian bicolor as a de-facto one

Yeah that is true (including the point of AH not having a true nat’l flag) but I sorta had to use something people would recognize
Great video.
2:58 Well the very non-Roman Polos probably knew Latin fairly well as it was the European lingua Franca at that point and they must have used it on a regular basis as they were traveling merchants and Latin was the language of commerce in Europe then.
Good video.
hi great video 😊
Woah he uploaded
Some more info on the concessions in other cities would be interesting. Parts of Qingdao still look quite European in a strange way, and China's second largest brewery got it's start there because of the German concession
@GwainSagaFanChannel

Dutch concessions could be a topic since there were Sino-Dutch treaties in relation to Taiwan and Taiwanese islands

Wasn't that a full blown colony for the Germans
I like the small reference to Bill Wurtz’s “History of Japan” video at 3:53
2:10 quing owned vladivostok transamur area until 1860s
5:59 What's with the dual audio?
Whoa! :0
2:03 Qing Dynasty missing their russian (and a few other) territories, it was even bigger than you show...
Fun fact: These 8 Nations have never in their entire histories agreed on anything in unison ever, never before, and after this one instance, never again (so far). It's a miracle that they even managed to march out of Tianjin together, diverged into separate fronts and remerged in the center of Bejing without accidentally pissing off one another.
Your Qing map is missing all of outer Manchuria. That was taken by the Russians at the end of the 19th century.
austria hungary flag in the thumbnail kinda incorrect I think. there was a whole debate on wikipedia!
The next to talk about should be Shanghai
Ah yes, the European country of Japan.
EU4 grain icon
I remember concessions appearing in "The Blue Lotus", one of my favorite Tintin comics lml
It’s not 8 or 9 it’s actually 10 Austria and Hungary shared their zone
7 European countries and 2* Asian ones
And ppl wonder why we think foreign governments have ill intentions towards my country
7:16 wrong republic of china flag
So in short you could have seen them as a extreme version of a embassy. As those can also act like as a forward base for the guests countries.
i disagree, the UN doesn't have "enough trouble" because it doesn't actually *DO* anything.
austria hungary's flag is incorrect
Did the Japanese archipelago somehow end up in Europe?

What they should've done to Austria-Hungary section is to divide it evenly amongst its sucessor states. One street for Austria One street for Yugoslavia One shack for Fiume.

Japan can into Europe!
Hegemony, disregard Intl rules
Here's the Spark Notes version of this video. Like in all times of mankind, in all parts of the world, as one empre falls another arrives to overwhelm those falling. Babylon, Persia, Greek, Roman, Ottoman, China, Britain all went through this situation. China was at the bottom of the cycle, Europeans at the top, just the facts. Saved you 600 seconds, friend.
Did Italy leave the concession after they changed sides? Weren’t they on Japans side?
@blede8649
27 күн бұрын
They didn't have the time. The Japanese attacked the Italian concessions as soon as they heard of the armistice. They were besieged for a time, and then the Italian garrisons were taken prisoner. Mark Felton made a video about it (title is "Italy vs. Japan - The Forgotten Pacific War").
I bet profits are involved.
Where did you disappear to... Anyway, this matter still annoys China todate...

China ain't that entirely humiliated yet. The colonial powers, fresh and stale empires, should have foreign concessions on every Chinese city and town!
