As a member of your target audience (50s, newer to MTB), I have to say that this was not only the most beneficial video you've put out to date, but the best video I've seen on YT for months. THANK YOU!!!!!! -Tom

@@mountainbikeacademy The alter ego thing was enormous for me, the reframing negative thoughts was pretty cool, too. But the alter ego part resonated so much so that I ordered stickers of my old school nickname to put on my bars, that way I have that mental switch right there in front of me on any ride. Thank you again!

"be infinitely curious about the possibility of what could be next" that's an awesome advice for evading mental dead ends of frustration, thanks sultan of shred 😀

Thank you ! Very helpful advice David. As you described the mindset and “switch” technique with your goggles example it threw me back when I took a Neurolinguistic Programming course back in the day. The “goggles” became an “anchor” so anytime you trigger your “anchor” it helps you make the mental shift to your new “alternate state of mind”. I’ve only been mountain biking for a little over two years. I turned 66 last month and I have found that your advice and content has really helped me pay less attention to my age and more focus on “man, I am having a blast learning this sport”. I also am an engineer (retired now) so I can relate easily when you explain something based on science and logic. Anyway, thanks for helping us novice get motivated to become intermediate riders. 😊👍🏻🚴🏻‍♂️

I'm currently working on my mental mindset, trying out actual Enduro races and figuring out why I'm so timid and not doing stuff I "know" I can do if I was not racing but just cruising on my hometrails - this video was infinitely helpful. Thank you!

I am a 33yr old guy. My 1st love was bike. But it's just recently that I got myself a 2ndhand hybrid MTB, and planning to build a decent hardtail to do trails. I agree with this. I am a former skater and longboarder, and those sports will teach you to deal with pain, how to get into the zone or your alter ego, it's a different state of mind, it was a meditation 👌🏽 I am excited to apply it on MTB 💕

A few minutes in I thought this was going to be aimed below my skill level and cover things that wouldn’t be helpful to me as a 23 y/o enduro racer… but everything made a ton of sense and was explained in a way that helps anyone no matter the skill level. Great perspectives, great video

Thanks - yeah I don't put it out if I don't think it'll be helpful Thanks for joining the convo! These principles are kinda universal so they work if you're 5 (I have kids) or 75 (I coach people this age too)

The other day I noticed Tadej Pogacar (not a mountainbiker, I know) has a Hulk sticker on top of his handlebars which he can look at while racing. Maybe that's his Alter Ego 😂

Not bad if you're in you're early 20's - have you considered that's not really confidence, but perhaps you could increase your awareness / discernment of what's going on? that's how I think about it, what about you?

You are going to help a lot of young men. God strongly directed me to mountain biking. Now I know why. I'll buy your course at the right time and learn from your example. Dude you are blessed and I'll pray that God gives you a megaphone to reach us young men who need direction. MTB sports gets men out into God's nature teaches them confidence and makes them learn to be afraid. Which is only a dance step from prayer. Bet dude, bet.
