I remember what a friend of mine asked me when Netflix and some of these other streaming services started to come online. He was like, all of the movies you want to watch will soon be online, so you can get rid of your physical media and free up some space in your home. I was like, what happens if a movie you like gets taken down because it suddenly becomes “problematic” or they no longer want to pay royalties to keep it. No thanks, I’ll keep my 900+ movies and TV series in physical form. That way, I can watch what I want, when I want. Fast forward a few years and this actually started happening. My friend was like, I’ll bet you’re glad you kept your physical copies aren’t you. I was like, yep! 👍🏾😀

Old school here I’ve always collected physical media ever since the 80’s music and movies ,I don’t and never will trust internet services because so many todays standers are effecting past and present music artists and films ,now my son doesn’t understand this no matter how I explain it to him, so my physical media collection will go some where after I’m gone. It’s a shame today’s generation see what’s around the futures corner of media control. Remember Fahrenheit 451 it was glimpses of what’s to come.

So I had a over 2,000 DvD and blue-ray collection but I just put it all on an external hard drive that now has over 5,000 movies and tv shows. I even made 2 copies incase. As along as I just keep up with the times and transfer it so much cheaper. I am not trying to be mean or anything either just saying that basically what I did was just put everything on onw DvD or whatever. it's the same logic , I have a physical copy of my collection via external hard drive , only it's 100 times cheaper and let's face it your really just buying the cheap DvD box and crap like that. Music is different and a little before my time so I cannot speak on that. Or at the very least you showed just do it anyways incase of like something crazy like a fire or something.

100% agree. Censorship has gotten out of control on streaming sites - owning the original releases on physical media is the ONLY option to get the fully uncut versions. Streaming services seem to be getting worse and worse. I never used to collect physical, but I now prefer having the media there at all times and it's nicer to actually own it. I'm sensing others are seeing the same and physical media sales seems to be going back up which is just crazy when you think about how it went away for a while. I COMPLETELY forgot about all the special features on these things too, it's absolutely incredible how much more content you get!

Here is my issue , I had a 2,000 + collection of DvDs and Blue-ray. Once my cousin showed me how to torrent movies and such, I went through my collection and put everything on an external hard drive and then have just gone that route and sitting on like 5k+ movies and TV. I even made 2 copies incase when got messed up. Keep in mind not a collector and such and just a buyer and watcher but it got me thinking about just selling "used" external hard drives but leave the content on them. Just not sure how legal it would be.

I’ve been collecting physical movie since DVDs first came out and there is nothing better than just pop in a movie on when you want to watch it. I never have to worry about Netflix having the movie I wanna watch or a bill every month. Now I only buy about four or five movies a year when they come out that I like, i’ll buy the new Ghostbusters and Godzilla King Kong movie when they come to 4K blu-ray and it will be so much cheaper than buying Disney+ Netflix and HBO for the year. Streaming is a big rip off I recommend everybody by their top hundred movies physically and you’ll see how much money you save because you will not need all of those streaming services every month

Yes, but the irony is, the fewer people who buy physical media brand new at full price, the less incentive there is for stores to carry them The fewer stores there are to sell them, the less incentive there is for studios to put the effort into producing the physical media. Don't get me wrong, physical media everyday all day, but we have to know what part we are playing in the decline of physical media.

I have begun collecting 4K UHD's of films i really like and would repeat watch, also picked up DVD's when 6x for £1 in charity shops and have always bought physical console games. I do think media centre's are a good compromise for people that like Netflix style content delivery but without the loss of content being taken offline, rip your films / tv to a hard disk and then stream it to any household device.

Always loved having physical media. I have a good number of DVD’s, BluRay, XBox and PS games (PS4 and PS5). Still have some original XBox games 1st gen. Recently started going back and buying some old classic anime like Macross and Vampire Hunter D. Fun hobby!

I have two VHS players and two (when they work!) DVD players and a truckload of VHS DVD and CDs in my place. I want control of what I can watch and what's more what I know I can watch when I am in the mood. I am not subject to the whim and sway of some outside party, and what they see fit that I should see or not see!

It depends, the cost of Vinyl has almost doubled in the space of 2 years. Im in Australia. When i started getting into vinyl 5 years ago. It was pretty rare to see anything new over $30 AU. Almost everything had some sort of liner notes because that's what many love about the media. Today its $55 or greater for a new release and no liner notes on many releases. Retail stores like JB Hifi frequently would do 2 for $50 deals. It really helped me getting started. However i know that if i look after them, i won't be subjected to the righs moving between artists and labels and or streamers pulling the content because of political trends. Just last weekend i bought Moana and Encanto on vinyl for my daughter. She absolutely loved it. You don't get that experience with digital.

Have a question about 4K Blu-ray that I purchased at Target that has a glitches in the disc. I recently purchased Apocalypse now final cut. I played the Blu-ray. It was great. I just got a 4K player and my final cut 4K disc chapter 7 freezes glitches won’t actually play but all the rest of the film chapters play and look fine. What does one do? who do you contact? to, get a new replacement copy of this 4K Blu-ray Disc of A.N final cut is it Lionsgate? On KZread. There was another Apocalypse Now final cut 4K Owner that had a similar defect issue more or less in the same exact spot on the 4K disk were mine froze up and glitched out. I'm all for physical media, but if you buy it and it doesn’t work, what do you do?

Year is back when everybody was with vinyl you could see the trend changing when it went to CDs. I could go to garage sales and I could get complete collections of next to brand new vinyl for dollars literally just five to $10 and every album would be in pristine collection. I picked them up because they were cheap. Did I need them know they were worthwhile to get and they look at vinyl making the resurgence same thing with this media crap I’ve been looking for certain types of DVDs that I know are worthwhile to watch and most of them would be the comedy sector of a series I have 2/3 of friends all this all the DVDs they put out over years literally for a dollar apiece and these dollar apiece have three or four DVDs in each series The hardest one to find is 2 1/2 men I just picked up series one and two each of them have four DVDs in it for a dollar apiece. I can’t tell you my source because it’s a donation to raise money for their their income and they’re not doing it from big money they’re just doing it for donations but I agree with you 100%. This is the time to go on out and pick up. DVDs really is like again my big emphasis I’d say pick up the TV series DVDs, if a TV show was on for 10 yearsit’s worthwhile to have because you’ll you’ll be watching them for weeks. Thank you have a nice day.
