In fact, shepherds pies are lovely little creatures. They used to roam free in the forests of the UK, but when humans first moved to these shores they were hunted to near extinction and so it's very rare to see one wild these days. They're popular as pets in the outer hebrides and are close cousins of the similarly elusive cottage pie
