Unchained Melody Unchained Melody is a timeless song that has captivated generations of listeners with its haunting melody and poignant lyrics. The song was composed by Alex North, a prolific and versatile composer who created memorable scores for many films, such as A Streetcar Named Desire, Spartacus, and Cleopatra. He wrote the song as the theme for the 1955 film Unchained, which tells the story of a prisoner who longs for his wife and hopes for parole. The song was first performed by Todd Duncan, who played the lead role in the film, and released in 1955 by Al Hibler and Liberace, who popularized it on his television show. The song has been recorded by hundreds of artists in various styles and languages, but perhaps the most famous version is the one by The Righteous Brothers, who released it in 1965 as a single. Their rendition features Bobby Hatfield's soaring vocals and a lush orchestral arrangement that adds drama and intensity to the song. The Righteous Brothers' version reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the most successful pop songs of all time. It was also featured in the 1990 film Ghost, starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, which revived its popularity and introduced it to a new generation of fans. However, not everyone appreciates The Righteous Brothers' version of Unchained Melody. Some critics argue that they changed the original mood and meaning of the song, which was more subtle and restrained. They also point out that there are other versions that are more faithful to the composer's vision and more expressive of the song's emotions. For example, Al Hibler gave a powerful performance that conveyed the pain and longing of the prisoner. Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, and John Gary also recorded beautiful versions that showcased their vocal talents and captured the essence of the song. One of the most recent and remarkable versions of Unchained Melody is by Angelina Jordan, a young and talented singer who has amazed audiences with her unique voice and style from the age of 7 to now 17. She performed the song at her concert in Portsmouth, NH on September 22, 2023, and gave it a fresh and original twist. She rearranged the song to suit her own interpretation and added elements of jazz, soul, and blues to create a stunning rendition that mesmerized the crowd. She sang with passion and grace and delivered every note with precision and emotion. She proved that Unchained Melody is a timeless song that can be reinvented and reimagined by different artists. © Larry D. Pifer

thank you. I have never seen this. I don't think I have ever heard a voice like hers. Especially when she was a mere child. she is just stunning. I would almost not compare her to any artist. She's in a league of her own. Every single song. She makes her own. I was told she does her own arrangements.? ❤

I don't know how I could ever say anything less than her performance was gloriously beautiful, and always emotive to those of us who feel her music in our bones. But she is growing up too fast, and I'm so in love with the little girl wonder.

With Angelina’s roots firmly planted in classic jazz from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s, it’s no wonder that her unique version would be a fusion from numerous legends. Great analysis Mr. Boyd! 🎶❤️👣

The Righteous Bros had a full symphonic track backing up the high vocal style of Bobby Hatfield. Elvis took it pretty much mid-range without dramatic octive manipulation. Young AJ took the song to a lower register with a barely audible backing track. Bringing her vocals front and center. Sam Cooke was louder, Hatfield more powerful and Elvis was Elvis. For a 10 year old to take on this classic by industry giants and do this well with it was an impressively colossal endeavor. This reaction was well done. Thank you, sir.

The Righteous Brothers, per se, didn’t sing this-Bobby sang it solo, and did a fabulous job of it. Have you watched Angelina singing this at age nine? Very moving and so beautiful.

Bobby Hadfield's rendition, as a member of The Righteous Brothers, is considered by most people to be 'The Gold Standard' for this song and deservedly so in my opinion. Here, Angelina presents the best female rendition of it that I have ever heard. Keep in mind, that Bobby was a full grown man with fully developed lung capacity and Angelina's lung capacity won't have reached full maturity until many years from now. Most experts say it will be in her mid 20's. As far as her sounding as if she is doing a Sam Cooke version, I don't agree. To me, this is strictly 'spot on' with Bobby's rendition.

I was going to say the same thing. She's definitely doing the Bobby Hatfield version. The runs are virtually the same. Hers are maybe s little more elaborate. It's very far from the Sam Cooke version, which is slower and just paced completely differently.
