Their Rituals are absolutely FANTASTIC live. Can't wait to see them again if they show up on tour again

My brother and I will see them at the Oslo Spectrum March next year. So looking forward to that. Tickets were a drunk purchase during my birthday party, but am not regretting it at all. Just wondering if I should put on my Sami dress for the occasion.

would be a good start, indeed.....
You might like both the "live" version and music video version of "Anoana". The music video version is both musically and visually STUNNING!

@@playitagainsue Watch the video first though for context then live. A great suggestion. One of my favorites.
The reason why it sounds like a ritual is because it *is* a ritual. Their music isn't just a performance, its meant to be a blessing of sorts to those who listen; designed to heal people emotionally/mentally as well as reconnect the people of the present with their ancestors, the Earth and each other. The lead singer, Maria Franz (along with the rest of the band) are Norse pagans. She's done a few videos discussing her beliefs. The man on the left at 3:35, Kai Uwe Faust, is an actual shaman/priest and is considered the "spiritual leader" of the group. Despite his intimidating appearance and voice, he's actually a really nice dude. For Christopher Juul (Maria's husband) his father is a Gothi (Norse priest).
This was also their very first performance as Heilung

@karlc9773 wow, that was an amazing first performance 🤩
Heilung are amazing live and their music videos are also great. i would suggest giving In Maidjan from the same concert a try.
This has nothing to do with the Middle Ages and goes back much further to the Celtic and Germanic tribes. Some rituals also go back to finds of bog bodies that have been very well preserved by the bog and one has gained insight into the killing rituals and also clothing from that time. Even hairstyles from the hair, some of which are well preserved.
Othan is another name for Odin
I think the first thing i saw of them was Krigsgaldr Thats is such amazing live video the lead female singer is mesmerizing I love the band concept and commitment and of course the primal nature Being a celt ; , pagan or pre christian and nordic mythology hold a fascination to me At times it sounds like Tuvan throat singing This was such a great surprise Loved it

@jessem470 I am so glad you enjoyed this Jesse. This was a cool experience and it does sound luke throat singing and the female lead was incredible 🥰
The first part is indeed a protection spell that is being chanted. The second part is meant to be Odin himself promising to protect them, so the male lead (I think) attempts to shamanically reach an altered state of consciousness as to speak with the voice of Odin himself!

@ewilliams0608 thanks for the clarification, Eric. I appreciate it 🤩
If you like her voice and wanna know what she can do with her voice. You need to listen to Live at Castlefest Lifa In Maidjan. Maria Franz her voice is great! Kriggsgaldr is alsof a great song.

@@playitagainsue I fully second this proposal! In Maidjan gives me goosebumps every time Krigsgaldr was the piece that lured me into ths rabbithole
Start by just having them on in the background when you do other stuff. Eventually you WILL sit down and just listen to them 🥰
just do more heilung.
Oh man ! I haven’t watched video yet This should be fun I was either going to recommend or did recommend these guys on a previous video I so want to see these guys live but tickets sell out faster than hotcakes

Crazy, that i'll be traveling in Europe during their tour. It was a mere coincidence that they'll be performing in Stuttgart, Germany when i'm out there. Hell yeah, I got tickets. I couldn't pass that up.
their music ranges back through time they have even covered the worlds oldest song from the 13th century BCE the Hurrian hymn to Nikkal. the track name is Nikkal.

Inglaterra corrupción
Philip Glass could have composed this.
That was interesting, not my cup of tea - but I thought the lead singer had a very strong powerful voice. I agree with you that it looks a lot like a ritual - maybe a pagan type thing.

Yes Pagan 💚
..While I have a general interest in ancient European history, this particular musical expression of it does not do much for me .. The female lead has a good set of pipes, but the throat singing type thing is not a sound that appeals to me .. It is actually rather unpleasant to my ears .. Maybe some of this stuff could be suitable for background music in documentaries where an ancient mysterious, tribal sound is needed, but as something to listen to for musical entertainment, it's a No from me.

@@wayne_twentyfive I hear you, Wayne. It isn't something I would sit down and listen to either. I see it more as theatre. The best part is when the woman is singing for sure 🤗

@@playitagainsue I kind of see where you're coming from, Sue, regarding the theatrical aspects .. But honestly, I'm not sure I could even enjoy this as theatre if this is typical of their live performances .. I think a maximum of 10 minutes of watching people wear strange clothes, make mysterious noises, and bang their sticks and bones while not much happens would more than see me out ! 😅 .. Apologies to all those many fans of this group and style of art, but I'm just not feeling it.
