Asus's "apology" is exactly like when an a-hole says, "I'm sorry... your precious little feels got hurt." I've hated their terrible motherboards for years, maybe now people will listen when I say Asus is garbage. From now on I'm making my own motherboards!

Me too! Had more Asus mobo's fail than Gigabyte or Asrock over a ten year period. I recently had a Gigabyte board fail on me. First time that ever happened. It was two years old. I built a cheap Debian server/NAS with a Asrock board that lasted 7 years and it was up 24/7 the whole time. I'm pretty sure a nasty power surge took it out, along with a laptop I had. I had three (all of them) Asus boards fail over the last ten years, they last about 16 months, that's it. I've never tried other manufactures boards so I'm not commenting on those. I build a lot of computers, I give them away to friends and family when I get something new.

I RMA'd my ROG Ally 2 days after I got it because the right trigger button was not registering inputs. Even worse for me, I'd bought the unit open-box. But to my surprise, they replaced the motherboard free of charge and updated the BIOS. It's been working fine for 4 months now. It's worth pointing out that the RMA process is different in different parts of the world. Here in the UK they definitely could not get away with stuff like this. I don't have too much good to say about the EU, but they do some good work when it comes to consumer protection. You have a 2 year warranty with everything, even if the manufacturer gives a 1 year one. Even after 2 years you are likely to be entitled to redress if you bought something, particularly a high priced item, that has stopped working/broke long before it's expected lifespan. For example, let's say you buy a fancy LS tv without an "extended warranty", It comes with a 1 year warranty, it stops working after 2.5 years... you can claim against the retailer in the small claims court if they don't fix it. You will almost certainly win and the retailer will either be made fix it or give you a certain amount of money towards a new TV
@REgamesplayer
Ай бұрын
@@DodgyTodger You can't have your cake and eat it too. This is what you expect from EU. As for warranty, it is only covered if you are entitled to it. So, if it fails after 2,5 years. 2 years is basic warranty and then 1 extra from a producer. However, only select few manufacturers provide this warranty. Furthermore, consumer law will only side with you if you are entitled to warranty. Your post falsely appears that you can easily press for an item to be serviced out of warranty.

"Directive (EU) 2019/771 When shopping in the EU, Norway, or Iceland, you are always entitled to a minimum 2-year guarantee at no cost, regardless of whether you buy the goods online, in a shop, or by mail order. To be fair, when I told them the model and how I had used their software to update their BIOS on their board, the RMA was approved instantly. Then again, I researched the BIOS version and it had been live for months without a fix. I guess issuing brand new mobos was cheaper than paying someone to fix it.
I haven't had much luck with Asus products, the fan failed on a 2060 and they replaced the card without any issues however it was not the same card I had sent them. The replacement ran way too hot for mining but casual gaming it was fine. I've also had two motherboards that were buggy, one had a power issue and wouldn't restart, you had to pysically remove the power cord and let the power drain out and then plug it back in and that was even with different PSUs.

This is not on the same level as ASUS or Gigabyte with their PSU fiasco, but they're still not clean.

@@sirius4k "Suppressing reviews showing their products in a negative light. " So what? Asrock's marketing budget is small, so is wise to make value for money choices. These big time reviewers always can buy these tech products by themselves. Are Thermalright suppressing reviewers, when they don't gave them free samples? Their marketing budget is very small, but their CPU coolers are the best.

I don’t think it is actually possible to boycott every company that has done something shady.

Of course it isn't, Asus was already doing "shady" things, idk if shady is the right word for blatantly lying to people's faces. We obviously can't go "Nobody buy anything from a company with a controversy", everyone has had some amount of controversy, but people should 1000% consider those controversies when making a purchasing decision. It is very valuable for them to be made VERY public affairs because now everyone doesn't have to dig through a bunch of possibly bot generated reviews and junk to evaluate the risk you are taking with a purchase.

Last time around, I ended up buying a $500USA motherboard from EVGA simply because I trusted them. I still have Windows run the CPU at 99% just to be careful. ???

Running it at 99% disables Turbo Boost entirely. So your cpu is running like half as fast as it could.

People need to stop taking what GN says as gospel. Steve has turned that channel into a drama channel with shock content, claiming to be journalism. Most of his talking points about LTT were wrong or already being addressed. He’s about to be proven absurdly wrong with EK because he took the word of a group of disgruntled employees and refuses to talk to any EK senior management about what really happened. I mean, unless you count him secretly show up to LVL UP Expo with the intent of trying to ambush EK into an “interview”. Which completely failed and he had to go home with his tail tucked. But he won’t even mention that he did that because it doesn’t play well into his intentions. Anyone with any critical thinking skills would be best suited to stop watching that drama channel and stick to content without agendas, like Paul’s Hardware.

@@Goochigoop Then you absolutely didn't watch LTT's response video. That video clearly shows that there were definitely things that needed to change in LTT but by and large most of Steve's allegations were either already known and being taken care of or just straight out false, whether due to misinformation or otherwise. I also heard that GN did go to LVL UP with the intent to try and ambush EK at their booth but EK decided to not attend the show because people might actually believe the unsubstantiated allegations Steve put out. In BOTH instances, Steve either did not take the time or flat out said he would not talk to any senior management at either company (ambush attempts aside). THAT is not true journalism. That is, in fact, shock journalism. So, the OP is right.

@@thetazlord You're not wrong. I was at LVL UP and there were some chatter about either Steve or someone from his team was there scouting out EK's booth. I don't know what his team looks like so I can't confirm but if he really did do that, that's a slimeball move. If he really didn't want to talk to anyone at EK until "this issue is taken care of" then he wouldn't have done that. That means he's only in it for the views. I also did some snooping on his channel and you can see his viewership taking a steady decline for the 12 months prior to his LTT video. Then all of a sudden he gets 2 million views in 1 day. Yeah, we can pretty much guarantee this is his new style of "journalism" and he can be removed from the list of reputable tech tubers.

@@ragtop63 I was at LVL UP too and I was hearing the same chatter. I was wondering why EK's was absent for the show because I specifically went there to see them and some other vendors. Asking around and I heard pretty much the same thing you said. I don't watch GN because unless you plan on using stuff in a controlled environment with very specific criteria, their testing has no bearing on real-world usage of hardware. But now that I'm hearing more and more people say the same thing about that attempted ambush, I'm definitely never going to watch their videos. Doing stuff like that while throwing shade at someone else is the same kind of dirty in my book.
That Paul avatar looks awesome and is doing great at hardware news. It looks almost as conversational as the real one !

Awesome episode. Steve be praised! Amen.
The remember where your glasses are is like the recall feature of MS only that the info i stored in some random cloud instead.

Maybe its because I'm in Europe, but I only had great experiences with Asus. Last year I bought one of their cheapest mainboards for my 13600K and just assumed that it would work with the 13th Gen CPUs without a BIOS update. But it turned out it didn't and so i created a support ticked and they, despite me messing up my research, updated the mainboard completely for free - shipping included.
Good work Paul!

They're doing good here in Indonesia. A person i know returning his 2060 to get free upgrade to 3060 due to 2060 being discontinued. Their monitor also looking good for RMA process. The local official distributor is one of the best in the country.
OMG the meme with steve as the grim reaper XD
Just bought a Corsair K55 Core for $40. Love it.
RMA his sponsership, LOL. Pauls news is awesome.
I haven't considered an ASUS board since 2009 when I had 2 of em fail early not even 5 years old. I've built about 25 systems and have had failures from all brands, however the MSI failures were the least objectionable so I now try to use them.
Thankful for the good ol' Grim Steveper
Very nice job diverting from the real problem...
I was waiting for the "Enhance, Enhance Enhance" zooming in on the customer induced damage. Oh man that would have been perfect.
I go with Gigabyte boards personally. I’m going with the Gigabyte b650 Aorus Elite AX motherboard in my upcoming build. I have only 3 components left to get with my PSU the Corsair RM850e arriving yesterday. The motherboard, CPU and GPU. As I don’t have a PC at all, I’m building a budget build with upgrade room right to flagship. Going with a Ryzen 5 7600x and RX 6600 until I can get the money saved for a Ryzen 7 7800x3D and Sapphire Tech Nitro+ RX 7900 XTX, and use the Ryzen 5 7600x and RX 6600 as backups so I won’t ever be without a PC ever again.

I love the tech news here.... However, after watching other channel while I am cooking, I am asking myself where is the quick bits and realized it is Paul's tech news. sorry for that. I am here to confess my sin (?) hahhaha
I was somewhat lucky, I had issues with 2 Asus MB's since it happened right away, I sent them back to New Egg and they replaced them with no hassles.
Great video and good information
I remember a few yers back when I switched from ASUS to Gigabyte for my mobo because I wanted trustworthy quality, and got a bricked mobo that I had to replace, which took around 2 weeks, besides me having to take the mobo myself to the tech support place which was over 50 miles away from where I lived. And going back there to pick the new one up of course. Top customer experience from the fellows at Gigabyte
Was that Astra demo edited by you to show prompts and responses without dragging on the vid or edited in the original demonstration to always snap right away to the response to make it seem like it's super fast?
From asia. Had the same issue. Refused to fix the motherboard altogether. I'm gonna stick with gigabyte for the next few years, had a decent experience with the 3 boards I bought from them
