Who were we before being 'Filipinos'? | Episode 1 - Colonial Philippines
To start off the tale of Colonial Philippines, Diona brings us to a time before this was ever the case... from pre-colonial gender roles (or lack thereof?) to how Filipinos worshipped 'God'?
We explore a whole world before nations were ever established; a culture before ever meeting any others; and a people who could not careless about who or what lied beyond their islands' horizons.

Whang Od is the oldest but i don't think shes the last. I read that the tradition has been passed down to her niece. There are also a few modern taktak artist but yeah in terms of oldest authentic Kalinga artist, it's her. Great vid btw can't wait for the rest!!!

You know what I wonder? If Philippines wasn’t colonized, would the different tribes ever have united to become ONE country, as it is today?
Soo informative! Can't wait for ep 2! Thanks for producing this series.
Love this!! Can't wait for the second episode :)

That's still disputable until today. Lapu lapu's origin is still a mystery
Anong pangalan ng Pilipinas bago ito naging Pilipinas? Nasabi ng mga kastila na nasa harap ng China ang Pilipinas, ibig sabihin bago dumating ang mga kastila sa Pilipinas ay may pangalan na ito?

Wala pang pangalan ang nagdedescribe sa kapuluang tinatawag na Pilipinas at that time, pero our archipelago along with the other territories na nasa dulo o labas ng Majapahit Empire ay collectively known as Nusantara (Outer Islands), which as of now has change its meaning and instead is the local name for Indonesia
Tinagalog nyo na lng sana lahat.

May I ask? Where does the name "Ophir" came into play? Did our ancestors knew that the place they were inhabiting was part of 'Ophir'? Or was the name "Ophir" a fiction of an imagination. I think what you revealed in your video proved that it is.

If we are to rename our country; *_Maharlika:_* so much issues, name deeply tied to the marcos family *_Ophir:_* ginoo ko! Conspiracy theory, barbers gossip, bias to the jews... So how about this; *_International name:_* Makronesia (big islands)《Opposite of Micronesia which is part of spanish east indies before》 *_Local Name:_* Angkapulawan (the islands) [Ang+ka-pulaw(malay word for island)-an] -*alt.*_ Bansang Kapulawan. Demonym Int'l: Makronesian Demonyn Local: Tagakapulawan (islanders) No religious bias, no ethnic bias, perfectly describes our geography and way of life. Doesn't matter if you're a highlander, the fact that you could point out your house on an island qualifies you as a Makronesian/Tagapulaw (or Tagakapulawan) without being offensive to other ethnicities...

Also the baybayin read as PAOKUS. They should have removed the "3" and put a period below the "VF" like symbol to make it POKUS...
American Colonial Filipinos: Pres., Senators Risa Hontiveros, Raffy Tulfo, Tolentino, Ejercito, Estrada, Dela Rosa, Professor Jay Batungbacal and some professors, Carpio etc. Too much colonial mentalities up to now with their nine American military bases in the Philippines
Here we go again, leaving out the truth. And truth is the aetas or original Philippinos they are africans, negritos. This is a problem when vloggers and not historians try telling these stories, everyone knows are should know that the oldest and original people's of the earth or africans, and africa is the cradle of civilization the father and mother of man kind. We know that as africans we are hated and despised but, another truth is Philippinos are of african ancestry, they became light skin under colonisation of the Spaniards and americans thus colonising the mind this is why they worship western culture and like to think of themselves as white, and also use whitening products to feel good about themselves. But the truth remains they are still of african heritage. "No more talk#

Majority of the early settlers in the Philippines weren’t even Aetas. We share the same ancestry with other parts of maritime Southeast Asia
Why do we claim to have spanish blood? Why is it filipinos keep saying they claim to have spanish blood? If you think 375 years of spain didnt do damage and kill our people then youre living in delusion. It would have been better if we were never colonised by spain and our local natives would stop fighting and stand together. Maybe in another parallel universe were not named philippines but rich and independent along with our tradition and culture. I will never respect spain and there language.

Because it gets us closer to the image of our conqueror, Spaniards. But other than government officials and clergies, there were few Spaniards in the Philippines to propagate their race in the Philippines. Spaniards who were in the Philippines even wrote about how few were the Spanish mestizos in the Philippines. In the book, Filipinas problema fundamental / por un español de larga residencia en aquellas islas, Published in 1891 said that the % of Spanish mestizos was less than 1%, 75,000 of the total 8M population
