Tomas Rodriguez Messi is better than Ronaldo. But from 2003/04-2013/14 you actually had to try and defend Ronaldo but since then he’s just evolved in to a striker. Ronaldo vs Cole in the prem was always the best battle on the pitch whenever United played Arsenal or Chelsea later on in Cole’s career.

Ronaldo is hard to defend. Messi is impossible to defend..

Winning 5-1 against Madrid is no minor feat but Barca already had the league secured, the second leg of psg vs barcelona was a complete disgrace and arguably the biggest cheat in champions league history, beat juve in the GROUP stages only to get knocked out later by roma, 3-0 against a laughable Chelsea, and 4-0 against a city who had not yet reached their full potential.

@@njgw1465 i agree it could and should have been managed better but the fact that terry ferdinand gerrard lampard scholes and rooney struggled so much I think was because they were so competitive ahainst each other year round that it was hard to get such big names and big egos to put their differences aside... Poor management for sure but i think they still had substantial talent

Top marks to Carragher for telling Cole he was world class. I always thought Ashley was a brilliant player, but his off the field issues overshadowed that.

@shredded guy Ronaldo has had 4 seasons playing as second striker, that's why he has a lot of goals, meanwhile Messi has role of playmaker, that's why he has a lot more assistance than Ronaldo, because he's more influential in the collective game, if Messi plays bad, so does his team while if the team has bad dynamic Ronaldo does not appear to push balls, you can't compare someone who generates game with someone who expects someone to generate game to highlight.

I think that 2002 match against Brasil was the closest they got, first goal Beckham lost the ball by jumping out of the play in the dying minutes of first half, then Seaman mistake happened, I believe that team could have won it, they were stronger than Germany and England lost to the best Brasil since the 70's at the time.

Alex Ferguson recently said that he's far better than Maradona due to his decade long consistency. ZT 1 messi has scored more goals that him this season without relying on penalties. 95% of ronaldos gaols this season were in the 6 yard box. Cr7 turned into a poacher. Cant create. Messi can do everything, but lacks in height.

Chidubem Ejiofor I don’t hate Ronaldo. He’s a great player, but messi just does things no player is capable of. The only thing Ronaldo has a levels above everyone except for Messi is goals. James Milner is a better warrior and leader but I’m not picking him over hazard. People only use these types of attributes when they know they can’t mention anything strictly football related . You can use those attributes you named in many other sports.

Messi is better at assisting and I’m not only going by the numbers, I’ve seen Messi pick passes which I couldn’t see until it reaches his teammate. @@iamcertified Still Ronaldo has the highest assists in Champions League history, it's a cherry picked stat I know. Which I find really odd. Messi does have greater dribbling but the vision part I'm not sure about. Ronaldo's playmaking ability is really underappreciated because of his persona (maybe) I feel. When you watch Ronaldo it's like he has a supernatural knack for both the pass and position. He punches way above his ability. For me, he's the best. Messi is undeniably also a great, I watch a lot of his games too. But it's just not the same feeling I have when watching him. I think the fact I watched Messi win 4 balon d'ors consecutively and believing that Ronaldo will catch up also played a part. I absolutely admire Ronaldo's ability to back himself.

Buhle Titi Buhle Titi that’s funny I’ve never actually heard anyone say ronaldo sees passes better than Messi. I see messi play one pass that cuts out a whole mid and defence which leaves he’s teammate one on one many times. I rarely see Ronaldo do that. But this has shown me that all football fans see things different because I don’t think there is anything supernatural about Ronaldo except he’s goal scoring abilities. Which is not a bad thing. But supernatural isn’t the word id use for he’s other attributes.

Cole was a fantastic player! He was my football icon!

In 6 years and at least 10 matches Ronaldo got only 4 goal contributions against a team featuring Ashely Cole, which is pathetic for a Ferguson's United attacker. One of the best left back ever!

England's golden generation underachieved for three reasons: Brazil, France, and Italy. During that period, England had great players, but if you're comparing their players to those other 3 countries at the time, you can see why they underachieved. Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Argentina and maybe even Germany were in similar situations at the time. Don't get me wrong, England's golden generation squad was great, but it wasn't comparable to the other 3. Although, I do believe that England's squad at the time would've probably won at least a Euro or World Cup in modern football, as they were very talented.

Its simple. The way to stop Ronaldo is for the guy marking him to have a good game. The way to stop Messi is for the opposing manager to have a good game.

No jamie. You cant judge world class as being the best in a given position, thats ridiculous. World class is subjective but it cannot be the same as "the best". We have a category for the best left back or best goalkeeper, they are called "the best left back" or "the best GK". I would say World class is being in the top 3 or 4 in your position in the world. Again subjective, as some might say top 5 or top 10 but certainly not top one. Ashleycole was more than a world class left back, he was the best left back on the planet for years.

I'm a single mother with 3 kids with hepatitis.. and I think Messi is far better than Ronaldo, that's why Ronaldo is the best player of all time

Looking back Cole was probably the best player on that golden gen team. As jamie says he was best lb in the world probably after maldini and carlos had declined and marcelo and lahm still hadnt fully kicked on.. 2005/6ish to 2008/9ish

loved watching Barca play before Messi .. Manchester united was already a great team before C.ronaldo arrived on the scene . Enough already with this Messi v/s Ronaldo thing . Hardly watched the la liga the past 10 years and not regretting it. Football Will always be the number 1 sport with or without Messi and Ronaldo .

Messi was harder to mark because he played on a different part of the pitch not directly against Cole. The Barca system with fluid interchange of players also has a lot to do with it.

On his day, Ronaldo was also impossible to stop when he was at Man U and earlier Real Madrid years. Messi during the guardiola era was also incredible. I think it comes down to what style of player you like best. For me, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo🙌🏼

Finally hearing an honest answer to the question “Why didn’t that England team win anything?” - Not good enough. I’m sick of hearing nearly every other retired player from that generation bandy this narrative around that they’d have won something if they’d been mates and hadn’t been so competitive with each other with United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal players in the same dressing room. BS. In my opinion they’re trying to rationalize not being good enough, it’s their coping mechanism. I mean how many matches he scored in out of the 15 (i think) games portugal played in total . He only scored in 5 matches (off the top of my head) out of the 15 Portugal played . @@mohdaymaan9592 I think you mean *"lose"* here instead of *"loose".* By the way, what difference does that make and how are you gonna prove that? Zlatan lost many times to Messi and Barcelona too but he still says Messi is better. Even Rooney, who has played with Ronaldo and lost to Messi a few times, he still says Messi is better. Jerome Boateng who lost to Ronaldo and got humiliated by Messi says Messi is harder to defend against. Even other respectful legends like Gerrard, Terry, Lampard, Henry etc all say Messi is better. Saying that they are salty just because they choose Messi over Ronaldo is a complete absurdity. That's more like jealous to me.

Thing is you'll get the chance to improve yourself. You learn new things anywhere. *It doesn't have to be on english channel where you can learn english. Whether you be grateful to be able to improve yourself or you stay ignorant with your arrogance that's your choice.* FREE ADVICE. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT. I don't know where you're from but I can guess from your name that you probably are from Malaysia. The name "Mohd" is used commonly among Malaysians as a short form for "Mohammad". Your second name is "Aymaan" which is another common name in Malaysia. However, what *i can surely* tell is that you're a muslim. Islam teaches their followers to be grateful so, remember that. So do millions of others players and fans."* Then what Cole and all the other mentioned players did were just stating their honest opinions. *It hasn't got anything to do with being salty or not. If you still say that they're salty then the burden is on you to PROVE IT.* Furthermore, saying that everyone has the right to give opinions is like saying Neymar and Mo Salah is better than Messi and Ronaldo coz there really are people who thinks so but i'm sure as hell any rational football fan will think that's ridiculous. Regarding those players opinions on the two meanwhile has got something you need to remember. The vast majority of football experts i.e. pundits, legends and footballers, most of them say that Messi is better than Ronaldo. I can name many more of them if you wish and I'm quoting their words simply bcoz they're football experts. They've played the top level football. They know football more than we do. Their judgements on who's better between the two are well better than us. Yes, i know. Their opinions aren't everything. There're also stats, their technical abilities and stuff to consider but i can prove that *Messi is better than Ronaldo* from those things too right here right now if you wish.
