Thank you BBC, for this historical moment.
There is a good movie out on Disney+ about him. Very interesting story!
Definitely plan to watch the movie
The movie is called Chevalier. You won't be disappointed
Fantastic 🎉
Excellent video. Thank you.
Wonderful.
I've never heard of him but his name is definitely a character in "much ado about nothing".

Is that you Trump?
Just read The New York Times review, written by Lisa Kennedy. Usually, The New York Times has no problem dropping the hammer on inferior filmmaking. Here, however, I suspect that The New York Times attempted to avoid being tagged "racist" by skirting journalistic responsibility. Nowhere does Lisa Kennedy critique the impossibilities and flaws in this film. For instance, during a musical "battle" with Mozart, the Guadeloupe born Frenchman, Joseph Bologne, breaks into a riff on American blues music, which wasn't invented for another 100 years in 1860. Chevalier is preposterous hyperbole, making the 1984 film, Amadeus, look like a Ken Burn's documentary. Chevalier's populism undermines Joseph Bologne's contribution to musical history. Hopefully, a better film will rise from the ashes of this drivel.

According to his biographer, they all moved from Guadeloupe to France together. The father would not marry her, but set her up in her own home.
This video needs some fact checking. There is no evidence that Napoleon banned Bologne's music or attempted to "erase him from history." Bologne appears repeatedly (and is highly praised) in books during19th century, including a novel and a play as well as plenty of annals related to music and most often, fencing, as (like the majority of his contemporaries) his music was no longer popular. But that doesn't mean his music was banned. Just that he became better known as a master-of-all-trades with an emphasis on his fencing and romantic rumors.

Napoleon brought back slavery and for some strange reason you think he wouldn’t banned his music

@@bigmac8333 It's not "some strange reason." It's because there is no evidence that he banned Bologne's music. If a claim is made, there needs to be evidence to support it. If Napoleon banned his music, why is there no evidence of a proclamation, a law, a document? Why is there no 19th century book that talks about it when talking about Bologne?

In 1802, Bonaparte overturned a slavery ban in France, written in 1794, and re-instated the right to own slaves. Whether he banned Bologne's music is unknown.

It's not really "unknown" when there is no evidence that it happened. The onus is on the people making the claim that Napoleon banned his music to prove it. Why would no book from this era, including a book written by Bologne's friend, mention a ban if it had happened? Why would there be no record of the ban in any way, shape or form? Etc. @@nualac.galbari6527
I'm wondering why Chevalier de Saint-Georges is not in FGO when he really had a fencing match with D'Eon in Real History. To be frank, I think it's very racist of Type Moon and FGO not to include Joseph Bologne as a Servant with D'Eon when those two knew each other IRL. Representation Matters! Type Moon stop distorting history and represent minorities that contributed to music and fencing!
